    Update #2….. looks like this gun will be going back a second time if I don’t end up selling it. The gun was poorly packaged and sent back to me not in the original box. There is finish wear on both the camo and the cerakote. That’s not even my biggest problem, the rib is not centered on the barrel and the front sight was damaged, rib, and barrel due to poor installation….

    Have had a Mossberg 935 (turkey/waterfowl combo) for years and have had a lot of success with it. Still works great, don't miss very much if at all on birds. My buddy's kid used it to take dove one year with shots about 70 to 80 yards. I see no reason to change at this time. Thanks for the video. Good luck and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉

      It’s feature packed, but time afield and shooting will be required to see if it’s as good as I think. I’ll report back any positives of negatives.

    I bought this shotgun and took it to the range and it would not cycle target or heavy loads. My gunsmith said to run 300-400 heavy loads through it and then clean it. To get a second opinion I called Mossberg customer service and they told me to run 250 heavy loads and then clean it. So I have run 200 shells of 3 inch 1 1/8 at 1550 fps and it is cycling with an occasional hiccup. I am going to run another 50-75 through it and then give it a thorough cleaning. Customer service said that they use a gummy sticky rust protectant that with time can get dry and cause cycling issues. I just think a few more loads and some cleaning is all I need. Customer service from Mossberg was excellent.

      I have to give my opinion on this… It’s absolutely unacceptable that a $1000 gun doesn’t cycle loads out for the box. This is only a 3” chamber gun. I recently box a browning silver which is a 3.5” chamber and it cycled 2.75” 1oz light target loads flawlessly.
      I cleaned my 940 pro waterfowl 2 times and it didn’t changed a thing. I ran some intense magnum 3” loads through it and then tried the target loads and no dice. It’s been at the factory for 3 weeks so I am hoping to get it back actually working.
      Think about the 940 platform in general, it’s designed to be used in sporting applications which utilize 2.75” target loads usually. Imagine a 3 gun shooter being told you need to cycle heavy 3” loads a couple hundred rounds before you can run it in competition…..
      IMO, firearms manufacturers are lacking heavily in QC right now.

      I took my 940 Waterfowler to my gunsmith to have him clean it and look at it as he has the 940 JM Tactical and wanted him to to look it over. He cleaned it and said that he saw some small issues with the firing pin and was confident that it would cycle. Well I took it out today and ran 15 round of three heavy target loads(two different kinds) and two rounds of target rounds and no issues of cycling. I am glad I did not have to send it back to Mosssberg , but I totally agree that a shotgun should shoot heavy loads right out of the box. @@avidwaterfowler7522

      I ran the 250 heavy waterfowl loads and then had it cleaned and looked at by my gunsmith . He found some crud around the firing pin and cleaned it. I ran three rounds in it 15 times with heavy loads without any cycling issues. Then I tried the rounds of light loads and it cycled it as well. I agree with you that we should not have to do this right out of the box.@@avidwaterfowler7522

      @@avidwaterfowler7522 I did all the 250 heavy loads and the instesd of cleaning it myself I had my gunsmith thoroughly clean it. He found that the firing pin was gummed up by the preservative. It works fine now with lite target or Heavy loads. The preservative is the problem.

    I just picked up the upland which is really not a different shotgun. Anxious to take it out and shoot it. Expect it will be very fast and should cycle most every type of shell without any issues. I think the weight is fine and will soften the recoil. I did add the half in spacer and the gun fits well. Don’t forget the put some oil on the screwdriver. It’s a Phillips head. One I shoot it I’ll decide about the ported choke. Good luck with the new gun.

    ***UPDATE 2/13/24*** I wanted to give an update for anyone that has watched this video. I tested the gun on Sunday 2/11/24 and it would not cycle target loads and would barely cycle heavy loads. It also had a sticky chamber on some target loads. The chamber feels very gritty as well. I went home and cleaned the gun in hopes of it working on the next trip. I tested the gun once again 2/12/24 with the same exact issue. I called Mossberg customer service and the First Gentleman didn’t know the products and we mysteriously got disconnected. I called right back and got a customer service rep. That said I need to send it in for evaluation. So, it’s going back to the factory for repair. I WILL make an update video once I get the gun back and tested for function.
    Loads tested that didn’t work:
    1oz fed and Winchester at 1200, 1250, 1300 fps
    1-1/8oz fed and Winchester at 1200, 1255, 1300
    Loads that did work:
    Rio buck shot 24 pellet 4 buck (barely cycled)
    Remington 1.5oz Turkey loads
    Fed blue box 3” 1.25oz

    Enjoy the mag release/ bolt release button lol, don’t bump it once the bolt is forward with mag loaded. If you do it will release a round in a half under the floor plate turning 940 pro into a single shot. I struggle with my 940 pro all last waterfowl season so disappointed because of the mag release function. Massive let down for me and I grow up with mossberg and I was so excited about all of it but after it just jammed up on me because of the mag release function over and over. For the longest time it would jam with 1 1/4 to 1 1/2oz waterfowl loads straight disappointed with my 940 it’s not a 935 that’s for sure! Get ready to pull that sweet stock return spring if you ever dunk it in the water. She shoots great it it doesn’t jam, love the bead for long shots and buy a muller decoying choke rocks for TSS. Keep it clean because the action is easy to get slow from a weekend of hunting just straight disappointment for me. I went back to my Winchester SX4 after about ten hunts of dealing with it and I was hoping it was going to be a home defense gun not that I needed it but after the mag release issue I won’t trust my live to that peace of junk! Sorry to rain on your unboxing you know I enjoy all your 10ga content I just hate the target shooting culture this shot guns was developed under Jerry joke mag release function because he was to lazy to unload a shotgun…

      I do appreciate the heads up. I’ll need to use it afield to make up my mind completely. The bolt release button doesn’t bother me all that much as many Italian auto loaders that do the same thing. Some guys actually “ghost” load Benelli autos that way on purpose.
      There will be more 10ga content coming up!

      This is not a ghost loading feature. This is an unloading feature so when it’s depressed, it drops one and a half shotgun shells underneath your floor plate jamming your gun. Try it before you write me back! The good thing about your waterfall addition has a much smaller bolt release button then the actual 940 pro model…. The turkey pro does it they all do it. It’s crap you’ll see. Can’t wait the first time you have to on jam it. Hope you have a really long fingers. You can use it as a ghost load feature but then you can only have two rounds in the gun one in the chamber one in the mag depress the button, and now the rounds under the floor plate. You cannot load another definitely not a ghost loading feature. Drives me crazy when people say something back without testing it.

    • @avidwaterfowler7522
      @avidwaterfowler7522  Před 5 měsíci

      @@BrockLowell the Benelli doesn’t have a ghost loading feature, it’s a design flaw I’d say that people have turned around to occasionally benefit from. I have seen it jam up as many times as it works. I get you don’t like the unloading feature that mossberg designed, but I can’t say it will or won’t bother me.
      Keep in mind, I make this content for free and I make nothing from it. Feel free to watch or not. I haven’t had the time to test this unload feature yet. Truth be told, it probably won’t be a sticking point. My old beretta a400 would drop a shell as well if you hit the button, and would for sure jam it. If I did bump it, which was not common. I would just clear the gun and reload.

    • @BrockLowell
      @BrockLowell Před 5 měsíci +1

      I think the frustrating thing is you keep missing a shell and a half that means the other half is still in the magazine. The gun will fire one time and jams. 10 gauge guys God bless smart, like tractor lol 😂

    That's unfortunate that you received a problem gun. I have the 940 Turkey version and it works flawlessly with all the ammunition I have tried. 1-1/8 Fed top gun to Win Longbeard XR 1-7/8 oz. All 940 shotguns use the stand Win choke. I purchased two additional turkey chokes from Carlson and they work well. Actually, my 940 came with a Carlson Turkey choke because the factory had a shortage of their own Accu-choke.

      I actually sold the gun. Mossberg’s customer service and gun smith are awful. They damaged the gun metal and finish around the front sight installing it. The rib was also incredibly off center from the receiver. Chalk this up to another brand of firearm I won’t buy again…

    So, with it being an over bored barrel at .735"... Wouldn't that make that .716 an improved cylinder, or throw a pattern like IC? Check my brain.

    • @avidwaterfowler7522
      @avidwaterfowler7522  Před 5 měsíci

      Generally speaking, -.020” for mod and -.010” for IC in the 12ga. Possibly this bore is over bored to .736” but I’d have to call mossberg to find out.

    • @saltcreekammo
      @saltcreekammo Před 5 měsíci

      @@avidwaterfowler7522 right, but with the added size to the bore, the .716 would pattern more like a true IC? I don't know if this makes any sense... I like the look of this gun. Had my eye on it for a while. I hesitate cause it seems all the CZcams influencer douche bags shoot it 🤣

    • @avidwaterfowler7522
      @avidwaterfowler7522  Před 5 měsíci

      @@saltcreekammo-.020 for mod is based on nominal bore dimensions. So what ever the bore size is, just subtract -.020” and that’s your mod choke. That’s why you shouldn’t put in standard invector chokes in the 930/940 because the bore size isn’t the same.
      Check my update in the comments. This gun was unfortunately defective and it’s going back to mossberg for repair….
