Father and son, creator and creation, or "just an android" and "my mission"? Marcus and Douglas' relationship has never been simple. Can they ever just be a happy family?
I know I'm late to this feels-fest but I finally watched The Vanishing and just had to make something. It was supposed to be a relationship study (you know, like a character study but for a relationship? Is that a thing?) but then some "Douglas was evil but got a happy family so why couldn't Marcus?" crept in. And there's maybe a bit of an AU where Marcus reforms, or at least the hope of one, because the feels were killing me too much to end it on a purely sad note. - Hudba

I love this video! I felt like Marcus's anger towards Douglas was understandable because he was loyal to him by following his orders, even when he clearly felt annoyed by him at times, but Douglas abandoned him, and he didn't even have plans on reviving him when he died either. The messed-up part to me was when Marcus grabbed Daniel and Douglas told him to "get his hands off his son" _ that had to hurt.
Thank you! I had a lot of fun throwing in "dad" and "my son" parallels in this video, because Marcus and Douglas's relationship makes me so frustrated/sad. Douglas's entire redemption arc is based on him wanting to be a good dad to Adam, Bree, and Chase, and later Daniel, but Marcus? The kid who actually willingly worked with Douglas and called him "Dad" and didn't get sent away (Daniel) or kidnapped (Adam, Bree, and Chase)? yeah Douglas doesn't bother digging him up and rebuilding him T_T
@@SupernovaSilence His story is sad. Yeah, he did attempt to kill Leo a couple of times but he was following his creator's orders, and it also seemed like he really tried hard to please Douglas too which probably added to his feelings of betrayal.

I know that Douglas is the good guy while Marcus is evil, but I always felt bad for Marcus since he thought they were family but Douglas only cared about his biological children.
If Douglas actually showed him love, then Marcus probably would have chosen his side in the end. But now he’s dead. Again, I know he was evil, but it’s still sad.
(Douglas is still my favorite character, but I don’t agree with how he treated Marcus)
Same! I love both Marcus and Douglas, but I feel like the show judged Marcus more harshly than they did Douglas.
Douglas did bad things, but they were his own ideas, and he's a grown adult. He got a redemption arc. Marcus did bad things, but he's a kid, following Douglas's orders/training/programming. He got death.
Obviously that doesn't excuse Marcus, and he enjoyed doing bad things, but still! It just seems unfair, especially on a show with a strong 'family' theme.
I just want Marcus to have a happy ending :(

y así hace los pasajes, cuídalo y regresa a casa como padre en lugar de eso al final prefiero el final en mi Cabeza pero sí es triste pero por eso prefiero hacer el final en mi Cabeza todavía arriba Me gustó que Marcus y su padre volvieran a estar juntos, ¿cómo se me ocurre este final yo mismo, pero lo que quería era que sucediera lo que creé en mi cabeza, si fuera yo, lo habría hecho, así que ya que así fue? Si no es posible, yo creé el mío en mi cabeza, mi propio fin de mi país y mi familia juntos.

I feel like Douglas tried very hard not to consider Marcus a real son, because he would die before his 16. Can you guys imagine losing a child that young? Douglas was terrible father for him, but I think it's totally understandable why.
Good point! Especially if you consider that Douglas already lost Adam, Bree, and Chase when they were really little (Daniel too, though Douglas sent him away rather than having him "stolen" by Donald). I can totally see him telling himself Marcus is just a temporary replacement to get Adam, Bree, and Chase back because he doesn't want to get attached to another child only to lose him.
