If Crown Northampton is in your top 3, who are the other two then.
I still don't full understand what he is talking about but I just love his enthusiasm, I hope they let you cut it in half.
They look soooo comfortable. I need some comfy shoes in my life. I know I sound old.
If comfortable shoes means no back, leg, and foot pain, then there is no shame in buying them.
Quick note on Oxonian and Oxford, Oxonia is the ancient name for Oxford and so an Oxonian is an Oxford. When we mail letters to addresses in Oxfordshire the abbreviation is still “Oxon”.
Sometimes you buy quality and it really show through in all the little ways
I know it's not their style, but I so desperately want Crown Northampton to make sneakers with an anatomical toe box. That level of quality along with the ability to resole them would land at least a couple pairs on my feet.
I think they will do wide sizes on request. I know it isn’t perfect but it’s something
Such an interesting construction method.
Fun fact. Northampton Town Football Club is nicknamed the cobblers due to the towns history with shoe making.
Horween Dearborn is chrome tanned leather, it may be finished in veg like process but it starts as "wet blue" hide.
Rolled edge is 3 piece assembly, 2.8 mm heel counter/vamp, 1 mm stiffener and strip for rolled edge. Only difference is that they inserted rolled edge strip inside the split. You can see shoe construction pictures on their website.
Toe piece edge is just folded edge, nothing new there.
Love your enthusiasm on that mad technique. Crowns are superb.
Wow… what a pair of shoes! Just love Crown! Definitely one to show the amazing quality of manufacturing.
This might be my first crown shoes. I like the low profile look.
Should get the SMUGS delivered next week I hope
I own one pair of their sneakers and they are magnificent.
Yay, a sneak peak of the Goruck MacV-1 boots.
In the world of meat cutting, we call that a butterfly.
It's so elegant.
I've seen partial leather splitting done with leather outsoles on high-end shoes to cover stitching. It looks really nice.
Damn those look good!
This is super cool 😮 using one piece to finish it's own edge is just, muah.
He was wrong on that rolled edge, you can see pictures on their web site from shoe construction. Extra piece of leather is stitched to edge (like normal rolled edge) than inserted between split layers (unique to this model) Edge of toe piece is just normal folded edge.
If you like that knife, check out the Civivi Vision FG. Similar locking mechanism, and the quality is very good. Best knife under $100 imo
I'd love for you to also maybe compare them to some of their other lines, like the Jazz talbot oxfords for example since it's sort of similar?
Oxford in not in London. Oxford is in Oxfordshire. They are over 60 miles apart which is fairly far given England is quite small. Northampton is 45 miles north east of Oxford. London is approximately 60 miles south east of Oxford. Maps are fun. Maybe check 'em out?
You've ruined me, I can only wear foothshaped shoes now
great
Have you ever considered reviewing Xena work boots for women.
Would love to know how their shoes stack up. They have steel toes both with more fashionable designs for say blue collar adjacent work, but also traditional work boots common in traditional trades/blue collar jobs etc.
I'm ready to see a slice and dice.
When are we going to get some smugs low tops.
CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT! CUT!
Check their sizing guide, CN is actual UK sizing - not the same as Goral
KOIO has made the Oxford sneaker for a couple of years now
Yeah, these are hot. I could really get behind a pair of these.
Butterfly, not filet. Since the halves aren’t separated.
I’d love to see these cut in half.
Will you do a review for Clark’s shoes? I liked the brand when I was a teenage. Had some shoes for going to school and liked them. I would like to know if they are good or was I miss out on the good stuff.
It depends on how far back you want to go but even back in the 1970s Clark's shoes were decent budget shoes. They were available in widths for children and were reasonably good anatomically. They were not resoleable or made of particularly good materials in the children's ranges at least, which makes sense with growing feet.
Most Clark's shoes are nowadays made in Vietnam or India though a small amount of their better shoes are made in the UK (and that may increase).
Rose Anvil has already cut in half Clark's desert boots which are part of their originals range made with decent materials.
I see. I only did have them as a teen so I guess I got the better ones. Thanks for your insight.
Is the technique really that original? How’s rolled edges in high end briefcases done in comparison?
He was wrong about rolled edge. It's 3 piece assembly and it starts as any rolled edge by stitching rolled strip grain to grain with main leather, folding it over and stitching again. Only difference here is that they inserted stiffener and loose end of rolled strip inside the split of main leather where on the "normal' shoe it would be between outer leather and lining if rolled piece it self is not lining. On toe piece it's just folded edge. Yes he got little over excited 😉
I’d be surprised if you didn’t cut them in half….
My kingdom for a shoe that doesn't pinch my toes together
Not sure how wide your feet are, but I recently bought some of the Grant Stone Coast sneakers and they are really comfortable to me. I used to like a narrower feel but have gotten accustomed to a wider more anatomical shape and these sneakers are just fine in that sense. If you do try them, just make sure to buy your brannock size, not sized down like their boots.
it's not ''European'' size it's British size Europe uses 35-46
I don't like them... for now.. maybe I will like them in the future.
Sorry, the Rose Anvil x Jim Green Barefoot African Trooper is the ugliest boot that I've ever seen.
What’s the best looking boot you’ve ever seen?
You keep putting down beautiful shoes and praising the ugly ones, construction means nothing if the shoes are ugly, most of the shoes you praise are ugly.
