This is really cool. I've been wanting a barefoot boot for a while but wasn't sold on Lem's quality; this is exactly what I've been waiting for. I've got an alarm set for Thursday morning when these drop 👍
My barefoot African Rangers are my FAVORITE shoes…
I've had my Lems for over a year now. Boulder Summit is the shit. I've hiked glaciers in the Swiss and Austrian Alps with these things. Best and most comfortable boots (for my usage) I've ever owned.
@@jacobwitt2070wow!!! That’s awesome, I have the Lems Zen.
You did the right thing. Two pairs of Lems in and they both have stress failure at the glue line of the sole
I am on my fourth out of Lems in two years. I am very much looking forward to this boot for work. The Lems are just not durable enough for me.
Literally my first thought on seeing this boot was "wow, looks a lot like the Barefoot Bruin, wonder what the differences are." Thanks for planning a video!
The V2 leather is the perfect colour. They should be available in that.
I’m a roofer and I’ve been looking for a boot just like this. I need flexibility, love zero drop but also want a tougher boot cause im rough on them crouching, kneeling, dragging toes etc
I’ve been alternating altra sneakers and old Nike free military combat boots. Neither is ideal😅
This looks perfect!
The barefoot rangers were quite the revelation to me. I never much liked any barefoot shoe that I tried until I got the barefoot Rangers. I have wanted a taller boot in the barefoot Ranger style from as soon as I got the first pair.
My wife is South African. We met while I was stationed overseas as a soldier. We both love barefoot shoes. I'm definitely getting her a set of these. They look absolutely awesome!
Edit: Order placed. Love your passion. Keep it up!
The boots look awesome. I saw someone else say a motorcycle version of this boot would be great, having the same paratrooper boot look, zero platform barefoot style but with the added protection
A quick look into the moto boots out there I quickly realized there's a ton of crap out there...this would be nice.
Looks great! Apparently they're also working on a more anatomical barefoot last. Can't wait!
Also what I've heard. I'm holding out on that because their current barefoot last is basically just an extra extra wide. It works but could be improved on
Same, they are still not shaped as ergonomically shaped as they should be
They don't have enough pinky toe space for me, but neither do any other barefoot shoe brands I've tried
Huge respect for showing people the other boots in the segment.
I love listening how you went through the versions and process of coming up with this boot. I am excited to see more!
Your enthusiasm for design and perfection of your product is infectious. Thank you!
I was pretty skeptical, but after watching this I've come to understand your thought process behind this. That walnut prototype looks absolutely wicked. I think the floppiness of barefoot boots can be remedied a bit by the stiffness of the veg retanned leathers
Beautiful work! 3 days before your first hints, a barefoot friend expressed the wish to find a tall barefoot ranger.
I believe that you and Gareth may have found a hole in the market, and filled it with quality. :)
Dreaming of a 6" version of this!!
This was an amazing project. Thank you for sharing!
I was liking the brown ones to begin with then I saw the shot with them and the Greasepoint Workwear Nihon Menpu Olive jeans and knew I had to get the brown to match my pair of Nihon. They look amazing together.
wow love the look of the final version! excellent work, cant wait to get my hands on a pair!
Thanks for sharing the process and I love the resault you, your team and Jim green did a great job!
Never thought I would love my African Ranger boots as much as I do. Definitely one of my top 2 boots worn. Those and my JK’s.
This is awesome. I'm super excited to try these. I've been working in my Vivo Barefoot boots lately because I like the stability I feel from being close to the ground. I have a pair of African rangers, but have stopped wearing them due to the drop. Now that I'm used to barefoot shoes it's hard to wear anything else. The durability and repairability are great and I'm stoked to hear that you basically combined my two favorite shoes into one!
Looks like an awesome hiking boot. I love my BFAR's 10 months in and almost ready for a resole.
This is my favorite video!!! Love seeing the full though process!! Cant wait for mine to come in!
The amount of care In design is crazy, rarely do companies do this anymore. True craftsmanship
This looks sooo much better than the bearfoot bruin. Great work linking up w. JG and bringing us some traditionally constructed barefoot boots that both look good(not like leather boxes) and are reasonably priced. Awesome work!
I know hard-core barefoot people want that anatomical shape at the toe, but if you have enough room for the foot and toes to spread out completely these look better. Part of why I haven't tried any barefoot shoes is because of the shape.
these are incredible. Ive never worn a boot that high up the ankle but these will be my first. great job. (NOW LETS GET A BAREFOOT VERSION OF THE REDWING MOCTOE)
Crazy timing! I just got my second pair of the short barefoot ARs. Will def buy the troopers next.
I love my regular bare foot rangers. I can't wait to get these. I love how they have that heritage look. They have the old school 20s-40s boot but with the great comfort of wide toe. Simple great leather look.
Appreciate your dive into barefoot and minimalist footwear. This is the only type of shoe/boot my feet can tolerate.
Dude you nailed it. Especially with more space between 1/4 panels. I designed a custom pair of AR 8s and they are too loose because the laces max out.
These are awesome
Just pre-ordered mine!
Man I really need and want a pair of those!👌😎👍Awesome looking boots!
I thought the looked a little bit funky initially, but the more I see them the more I'm starting to like them!
Also, I absolutely love my barefoot african rangers, maybe this would be the perfect option for the next Dutch winter for me!
i love my AR8s, they are the most comfortable boot I have ever worn. Especially with the African Ranger sole. I also own the AR8 with the Razorback sole. I just wish that African Ranger sole was a bit more durable. I work in Pest Control and i'm 2-3 months in with the Ranger Sole and I might have about a month or 2 left on it. I cant wait for the Moc Toe Jim Greens.
I have a pair of the shorties, in fudge, on the way. I’m stoked to try the barefoot style boot with my flat feet.
I'm ordering these!
Rose does not miss!
I really love my barefoot rangers. I’ve grown to really like the low cut as well. I was going to pickup another pair. But now idk I may wait on these.
these look awesome.
Honestly, if you told me some African military regiment were issued the Houston Brown Troopers I would believe it. It has a South African feel mixed with traditional (American) 8 inch boots. I dig it, thats just me.
Awesome.
yea the blackout version is cool looks like a tabi lol
What this taught me is that making and designing shoes isn't as easy as drawing a sexy sketch and sending it to a manufacturer in (ex.) Asia.
Crazy to see this. I was watching back at the 1k mark. Good stuff man
Awesome!!! Do you know if Jim Green will be offering this as a stock/custom option in the future? I also suffer from the LADS and the AR8 pattern gives me much of the issues Weston described which seem to be solved with the African Troopers.
I'll be ordering mine tomorrow morning. I wanted green ones but oh well.
I can't wait to get my feet into a pair of these boots! The final iteration of these boots look pretty good, but by in large, barefoot boots look a little goofy and is why I think traditional good looks have prevailed over natural gait for work boots for many years. For a future video, it would be interesting to know about when, where, and why heeled boots became the norm.
Horse riding. For the stirrups. Unless I'm mistaken.
With all these new barefoot boots, I'm never gonna financially recover from this...
PERFECT BOOT! 🎉
These are amazing. I want to try on a pair so i can decide if i want to get a custom made pair. Id want them in the standard black leather roughout and maybe put the tyre sole on them if im not completely convinced by the zero drop sole.
Love my jim green barefoot boots! I don't plan on ever buying any other boots
3:40 you should've done the forest esc instead, by far the best piece of footwear i've ever worn.
If I can get these on rough out buffalo leather, instant buy.
I love the extended toe. I hope they update the original barefoot African ranger with this feature. Does the new last have a name? and will it be an available option for other shoe styles?
spent to much on adult todler lems lame boot shoes.... Never again!! Theses Troopers are awesome bud ... sign me up! great vids keep em coming -
I know these first batch haven't even come online yet, but when can we do special orders? I wanted to get AR8s with the barefoot last and a toe cap in cape buffalo roughout with the red thread, but it wasn't quite feeling right with me and money was tight, so i ultimately passed, but these seem like what i was wanting back then!
I just purchased a pair of these, now I need to find pants that match the style, like the ones you wear in the b-roll
I wish I waited for these instead of buying the rangers. These are much more my style.
I wish I’d had a boot like this when I was in the Army. Now make a split toe boot like Japanese tabi ( jikatabi)!
I have two pair of the original barefoot boot. It did take a little bit of time to break in after breaking them in. I never found a polish so I could get a hold of that I liked so I went back to my old army days and broke out the Kiwi. I went with a brown polish and when I walk out of the house in the morning, I can see myself On the toe. I can’t wait to order the new boot and always get two pair so that one can dry from sweating. My question is have you ever used Kiwi polish?
I like the v3
Thank you for displaying some of the other competitors(I currently have) three ‼️pair of{3} set of the Sofstar switchback Boots with the primal, friendly soul. That means extra extra wide, where it needs to be, and not wide where it doesn’t need to be. basically anatomical ergonomic & oblique toebox-for maximum toe splay, unsuppressed unrestricted with a capability of the metatarsal’s to display-out and allow the toes to be unsuppressed, while simultaneously having a positive
Lacing down system, and of course, it will be -0-drop(those boots look really outstanding. If you would please make a pair with a bio-mechanically, correct toebox , I would purchase several pair easily. Thank you for reading.
The only thing that I dislike about these is the speed hooks. I have a pair of iron rangers and find that speed hooks don't pull as straight as eyes do. It makes the leather bunch uncomfortably when you tighten them. I wear Redwing 877s every day and I don't think I could wear them with hooks.
I REALLY like that he is wearing them and being ultra critical of everything. I hope these boots do well for Jim Green and Rose Anvil. If they do a large production run, I may consider buying a pair.
I see hundreds of guys a year modify their boots to get something close to what these are. Hope they are available soon.
My Lems are wearing out. I would love to see a comparison between this and Bearfoot Bruin and/or Lems. Or if there are significant toe box differences I’d like to see how this compares to the Ranger barefoot
I want to do a custom with buffalo leather - would look tough
I just was contacted by JG in South Africa. African Trooper barefoots will be available from the Custom shop later this year but the factory is out of buffalo hide.
@@dbmail545 Sweet, that means I can get these in roughout
You think you can review snake boots from either Rocky or Danner, I hunt here in Florida and really wish to see how snake boots stack up to the puncture test
Very cool! I appreciate you taking us through the design journey and I really dig all the decisions you made to arrive at a fantastic looking (probably the best looking!) barefoot boot. One thing I wonder about barefoot/minimalist shoe design in general (reflective of a personal wish of mine): Why don’t barefoot designs ever support a bump toe or more vertical volume in the toe box? This is mostly an aesthetic point for me as I like bump toe look of many of the boots you referenced on your way to the final design. My guess is because it would interfere with the flexibility requirement. Or maybe people think they would REALLY look like clown shoes with a bump toe? Personally I think it could really work to balance out the flatness of the outsole.
Would it be possible to get these in a waterproof option? I would love to get a pair of these for hunting, usually out hunting in swamps and pretty wet areas...
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Is the anvil outsole tougher than the sole on the first barefoot rangers? The sole wore down very quickly for me.
What's the white layer showing through between the uppers and leather midsole? Is it part of the lasting board? My Jim Green Razorbacks have this, and I see it on tons of Jim Green's videos and in this video. It is the only thing I dislike about my Jim Green boots.
Love the boot really need some help. I am a size 10 (US). Should I size down? Will this boot stretch over time? Thank you.
Will we see a pair with a wedge sole and steel shank like that of the standard African Ranger?
I'm more than a little jealous of the horseshoe vamp/gusset improvement versus the barefoot rangers.
Did you have any part in the barefoot Stockman? Plan on doing a review?
Maybe it's because of the leather, but personally I think the v2 looked the best out of all of them.
I ordered mine! I hope they give us an Email when they ship. Thanks.
Do these boot have like a puncture proof layer on the soles so you don’t get nails through your foot?
Hey Weston! Can the oringo sole be put on these?
i need a pair
Great work! Will a guy with average sized calves still be able to tuck their uniform pants in these?
These look great. Please make some simple flip flops with your bear foot sole and a slab of veg tan leather. There isn’t anything American made like that and it would be a super simple build.
I would have tucked it in around the arch and heel. The sole is really wide underfoot there where it could be a bit slimmer to hug the lower ankle more. Would still work for wide feet by keeping the wider toe box, just snugger width at the heel like Iron Rangers.
I hate when quarters are too big . Good to see the changes.
Roseanvil, please get Jim Green to make the 8in in a coyote tan. Military would by it by the bootload. Ong, I would get so many
So am I dumb or can you resole the shoe once it needs a new sole to have a normal paratrooper/logger sole as opposed to what’s on it now?
What lead times are going to be on these?
I subscribed but didn't receive the email for the pre launch
Will these be offered in the vegtan or bison?
I know it would defeat the purpose of it being barefoot but this upper with a lug sole and steel shank would be a perfect wildfire boot for me
get a pair of nicks, whites, or jks. those are literally the boot u are describing. great fire boots
im in canada where could i buy these please!!
What's the sizing like, true to size?
Reckon Jim Green would ever do a barefoot cowboy boot?
They don't copy American styles.
What would you like them to provide that you don't see on the market?
@@davidknuckles6330 A barefoot cowboy boot
@@thomashardy1851 Well this video is about Americanising one of their boots
Only thing I don't like is the straight toe caps , the curved toecap is a Jim Green signature
I hope you and Gareth are still friends after 9 prototypes 😂
LOL iterating is the best / worst ! LOL this is a nice reminder that making stuff be hard! LOL ied say you hit your goal good job.
You said you wear size 10. How long is your foot? I’m between sizes with a 27.2cm (10.71”) foot.
Am I getting this will be a limited run? Hopefully, after going through all that, they make more than two pairs lol
How's the ankle support
