- Former Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn jumped bail and fled Japan in December 2019 for Lebanon to avoid trial on four charges of financial misconduct. For the first time since his escape he holds a press conference in Beirut.

This guy saved Nissan... that's thousands of jobs. The way Japan treated him is outrageous. The Japanese should be ashamed.
jujufactory I think that they wanted him to confess on a few trifles like the understatement in reports to investors concerning his compensation, they would pardon him and let him go. But because Carlos Ghosn did not want to “cooperate” and confess about something he hasn’t done, it all slipped out of their control, and the prosecutors came up with all kind of charges which are as genuine as I am the pope.

Half way through this video, my thought is that if this guy was guilty as charged, he wouldn’t dare to stand here explaining everything. He would have gone to some secret places hiding and never show up again while spending his fortunes accumulated through the decades.
Japan has some more thinking to do if it wants to attract more foreign talent to work in its economy. Whatever Mr Ghosn did or did not do, it’s clear that the Japanese justice system does not conform to the values of such systems in many other developed countries. That will make working / doing business in Japan less attractive to people in other developed countries.
If the prosecutors actually had a case they could bring to court, there would have been no need to hold him for even one month, let alone 13.
Ghosn settled charges brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission about his failure to declare $140 million of post-retirement income and benefits. Ghosn didn’t admit wrongdoing but he paid a $1 million fine and is banned from serving as a director in America for a decade. If the US SEC had a case against him don't you think Japanese prosecutors would also have an inkling of a case against him?

I believe you Ghosn... My husband has also been accused and unfairly treated by the neighboring country of Japan with very similar criminal and justice system. He was presumed guilty without regarding the facts and truth.. Like you said justice was irrelevant to them. Everything they do is to save their face and embarrassment and to protect their own people regardless the truth and facts. They controlled and conceived the media and even added new ridiculous made-up accusation without any investigation. I applaud you for coming out to talk about your innocence and your side of the story. You and your family will go through this!! We will pray for you and your family.

Carlos you have my support. I have spent over AUD 500000 on GTRs and other Nissan’s but I have to tell you I am not so keen to buy the next one.

Based on the body language, Mr. Ghosn was not lying in this video. It is a shame to arrest the smartest CEO ever in the Auto industry for this baseless accusation.
Mr Ghosn is a genius, and his career achievements are proof of that. I followed the news since his arrest. It was clear to me that he was innocent. This has been so unfair and I feel sorry that he and his family had to go through this ordeal. For me, it is quite difficult to understand that Japan, the country with the third largest economy in the world, has one of the most unfair and corrupt justice systems. I am definitely not going to Japan, and will not buy a Nissan car ever. So glad, Mr. Ghosn was able to use his incredible brain power and connections to escape....can’t wait for his “new” book and the movie that will come immediately after.

If he is innocent why would he settle these charges when he can and not fight to clear his name? It is reported he is still staying in a Nissan funded house in Lebanon right now. Talk about personal usage of company assets. And why would Nissan sue him if they don't have evidence? For all its faults this law in Japan applies to all, Japanese and non Japanese alike! There are cases where well known Japanese corporate executives have been put through the same system as Ghosn has when they have been suspected of wrongdoing, It is not rigged against him, it is just the way the system works. A country's judicial system is informed by its own history and development. One cannot just flaunt the system when it doesn't suit and flee as Ghosn has done.One cannot choose one's own judicial system as he seems to have done here by asking for the trial to be held (probably) in Lebanon. Japan rewarded him richly and he benefited from the system after all. You operate in a country's jurisdiction you must abide by her laws. Likely he broke a number of them in fleeing to Lebanon.
It will be a 2 part movie: Ep1: "GhosnBusted" and Ep2: "Carlos gone"

Japanese fantastic people ! I have lived in Japan for almost thirty years and I really loved it ! But it is fair to say that the Japanese justice system is a rigged system, in which judges have no authority at all, prosecutors are liars, hypocrites and corrupted, and media is working for them. The Ghosn affair is a good example ! If you have go to Japan for a certain period, be sure to have minimum two valid passports with you, so you can escape in case one of them is confiscated. Never walk in the street without a passport or gaijin card. Don’t say hello to police officers !

have you noticed that Mr. Ghosn said that 'he does not believe the 'top politicians' in Japan' might be envolved ... and then added that he would never want to create a 'delicate situation' to the lebanese government ... how does one have to interpret this ?? he didn't say this 'without purpose' - my understanding is that there is a 'lot more' to be revealed ?? considering he has just begun putting his arguments on the table, he must have a strong strategy to unmount the puzzle and - who knows - make key people speak out ??
For sure being kept aprox. 400 days under the conditions he suffered (apparently major periods of relentless interrogations without support of a lawyer + a huge period without any 'quality contact' with direct family or friends - all without formal charges ... IS UNACCEPTABLE ... not fair - not human - it is simply CRUAL towards someone he was depicted as a hero before: it gives me an impression of an obsolete system with a dominant prosecutor presenting symptoms of schizophrenia - after all he is working for who ?? for the 'public interest' ? or for the corporate powers ? ... there must be something rotten in the state of Japan ... for sure ... ; knowing that (some) japanese can be 'proud' and 'stubbard', I don't think Japan will change attitudes nor their system just on this case;
But if I would be in their place, I would negotiate with Mr. Ghosn, instead of staying 'proud' and 'stubbard'. Unfortunately I have never been to Japan, but my 2nd brother went there and said ONLY GOOD THINGS about Japan; so at least on a first sight it looks really like a magnificent modern and rich country !
What we learn now is that not everything is 'shining' in Japan.
My apologies if I have it all wrong, because the 'only' thing I 'know' about Japan is through some movies like the ones on the samurais that commit collective suicide at the end (having saved someone important - sort of princess I believe, but having desobeyed the local governor or some other 'funny' medieval guy ... I don't remember now !! ) - come on guys - give me a break ... it is good to be 'proud' (sometimes) but this should not delete intelligence or good sense !!
I really felt sorry for these (nicely white dressed) poor bastards - nicely lined up geometrically - what a scenery !
