    I'll take a few boards of that! A couple of things, was that log still so wet that moisture was foaming from the kerf? Also, I can't quite get the logic of cutting a 4/4 board from such a wide and apparently wet log. Even with proper stickering and drying, that thing is going to want to twist all over the place.

    • @byronfitch6444
      @byronfitch6444 Před rokem +1

      But that Idaho mill cut softwood logs. The video log is hardwood. Your comments are correct but overlooks a number of items. Another thing is that the log carriages couldn't have carried the large hardwood log weight. Yes that mill I think you are referencing handled logs that big but much less weight. Probably not relevant, but those saws were fixed and log moved, quite fast I might add. I worked at the PFI mill and had a neighbor who ran a saw carriage 8 hrs a day.

    • @greggwilliamson7404
      @greggwilliamson7404 Před rokem +1

      @@byronfitch6444 Point taken Byron. However if you look at the "fastest large wood sawmill" in the video I was pointing out that it might not be the largest. See the electric motor on their saw carriage? The engine that ran the mill in Idaho was run by a Sterling locomotive steam engine and was bigger than a Greyhound bus. The drive wheel for the band saw was over fifty feet in diameter. The teeth on the saw bands were eight inches long. Just saying.
