I love Kvelertak because 1. Their riffs are always fucking gold 2. They dont overdo/lack anything 3. The production is always so unique (especially on the first two albums) 4. They are not afraid to take risks (with the melodic, catchy, pop-inspired stuff they do sometimes) Literally my favorite band. Thanks for an amazing video Sam!!!
Sam, you're a genius. No matter which band you're talking about: I always have to check them out after the video because you make me so curious. I've never been a metal head (I'd call punk and hiphop my musical home base) but this channel is turning me into one. I've been listening to black, doom and folk metal all week (yes, I've watched a lot of Lock Horns). Thanks for your work, BangerTV!
I love this album, surprised the hell out of me. Stumbled on it randomly one day and for about a week it took over my life. Never heard anything like it. 5/5 from this guy.
Listening to Kvelertak makes me want to pour beer on my head and smash my furniture. In a good way. Don't care if they aren't easy to put into a subgenre.
Sam, I find you're getting better and better at reviewing. The Satyricon and Kreator references were spot on, which shows you not only know your Metal and like to analyse the music but also makes it very easy to get an overall idea of a song. I would love to see you review some more underground Black, Death, Doom, Sludge, Hardcore,... since some very cool stuff came out (and is still coming) this year. I'm thinking about Dark Buddha Rising, Cobalt, Graves At Sea, Chthe’ilist, Cough, The Body, Nails, Defeated Sanity, ... Also, Neurosis is coming with a new record too. Anyway, keep up the great work man! I'm really enjoying the channel!
This was the first review here that I watched and I'll have to say that this was really good. It is so pleasant to see when there is a real passion involved. You can really tell that Sam has a strong passion for music. And the production quality here is nice. I'm definetely going to watch more of these.
Whoa, didn't realize they had a new album! I caught them live in NYC on their current tour with Wild Throne and Torche, and they were amazing (the whole show was awesome). Can't wait to give Nattesferd a listen!
Glad you liked it Sam! If you haven't, I'd definitely recommend their older material too. I think Nattesferd is Kvelertak at their most playful and experimental. But their first two were quite unique in their own right. A little less melodicism, a little more raw, punishing energy.
Kvelertak are a great band. Doesn't matter if they're metal or not. I think they're just extreme enough to call them a metal band, though. But it is true that they have a lot of rock-n-roll in their sound. Hey, speaking of which... You mentioned Satyricon in that review. I have a suggestion, and, of course, whether or not you want to do it or not is completely up to you, but why don't you review the 20th anniversary re-release of Nemesis Divina? Such a classic record. I think it would be a good way to add a little more variety to your reviews. :)
Lars Hertervig , great norwegian painter who is said be fucking trees. Ended his life in madhouse. Wonder why -sounds natural to me. Btw -he really could paint trees.
I really dont like this new album. I like that theyre trying something else and being brave in that sense, but for me the composition just doesnt work. When you compare this to their earlier albums the music lost so much of its dynamic, it sounds so much more bland. I feel, that what used to fit together like perfect cogs in a machine to produce a great driving energetic sound now just grinds against eachother. As I said, most of this album reaaally doesn't work for me and the parts that do are worse than their older songs, when you compare them. Atleast my opinion isnt shared by all and people still enjoy this band, I hope I'll get to experience that again too with their next record, but for now I'll be here listening to their s/t and meir.
Every metalhead acts like a douchebag gatekeeper. These guys, and this album, are fucking awesome and make great music. Why do you want such a narrow range of sound on loop forever? And if you do, ok, but understand that obviously these guys like to have some range and I love it. EDIT: re-reading this I don't want to make it seem like I'm directing this at Sam. He gets it!
as a Kevlertak fan and as a Norwegian, i must say this album dissepointed me alot. the prodution was the thing that killd the album for me. everything sounded like it is under a feet of mud. all the instuments melded together in to a pukey mess. the vocals are a shity thing about the Nattesferd. i know that the vocals are hars, but still on the last two albums you could still hear and understand the vocals. i could not resite a single lyric form Nattesferd. the vocals just gets trapped in the quagmire of the prodution with the rest instruments. when Sam in the reveiw mention the fact that it was basclly made in jaming session, it made scence. the album just seems unfinished. if it was a couplke of months in the oven it would have been alot better. this album just lack all the punch that the first two Kevlertak album had tons of. (sorry for bad english)
As another Kvelertak fan and a norwegian i disagree. I can see your point on the production, but the music in itself is pretty awesome. Nothing like the two first albums, but the album can stand on its own musically. I like it alot! And if you could resite alot of the former lyrics I am impressed! I have tried to do that myself with very little luck :P You have a good night sir!
The production isn't muddy. It's retro, airy and live. Best mix for them so far. The bass sounds fucking amazeballs and everything else is just layered perfectly!
I also liked the mixing on the first two albums better than this one, but it's not badly mixed. Unlike the earlier albums, this album took a while to grow on me. I like this album, but I like the first two better.
+TheSpikeNation This is exactly how I feel. Honestly, thought Nattesferd was going to be a huge pile of crap (basing off of 1985, which I grew to love). But honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I can't say I enjoy it as much as the first two, but it definitely stands on its own and still has the kick ass Kvelertak sound we all know and love.
《Jussi138 》 sorry, but what?? It means cheers, or bowl. You are refering to the fact that skål and skalle (which actually means skull) MAY have developed from the same word. Also, there is no definite proof vikings drank from skulls. This may very well be incorrect translations from the word horn, which they certainly did drink from.
I’d say they’re the furthest from a gimmick band. I’d say theyre the exact opposite. Zero gimmicks just crazy hard to define music. Which I guess scares metal heads.

Literally my favorite band. Thanks for an amazing video Sam!!!
Completely agree! 👍
Ow man, you missed Heksebrann, my personal favorite on this record.
Rafael Sartor Also missed Ondskapens Galakse. My favorite

Really looking forward to the nails & caugh records. Cobalt, Graves at Sea & Black Tusk are some of my favs this year so far
Craig Mailman Yeah, I forgot about the Black Tusk record, which is fun as hell! The Cough record is out now and it rules, obviously. Cheers!

Good review Sam. I just discovered Kvelertak earlier this year and got hooked.
I love this band - so happy to see you reviewing them!
It's not Kuhvelertak, it's KVELERTAK!!!
You gotta scream it!!
Hadn't heard of this band until now. Definitely want to check them out after this review. Thanks for the heads up! =)

Yet to listen to Nattesferd, but if the two last records are anything to go by, it is going to be flipping amazing!
Berserkr reminded me of Iron Maiden's Aces High mixed with Phantom of the Opera
YES! I just discovered this band when this album was dropped and havent stopped listening! also, first!
I always liked to think that Kvelertak was the freak punk-loving child of Foo Fighters and Darkthrone
Kvelertak are a great band. Doesn't matter if they're metal or not. I think they're just extreme enough to call them a metal band, though. But it is true that they have a lot of rock-n-roll in their sound.

KVE-LER-TAK
really like the album. your point about this being a rock record is not too far off. and that's a good thing. band really stretching their wings.
Lars Hertervig , great norwegian painter who is said be fucking trees. Ended his life in madhouse. Wonder why -sounds natural to me. Btw -he really could paint trees.
This band this album is kick ass awesomeness!!!!
can you review the new Avatar album flesh and feathers? thanks.
+Death Bats yes! that would be amazing :D
Fran Lovel Šimić the band is awesome i recently discovered them they're 2014 album hail the apocalyse is pretty good.
Death Bats I ve been a fan since Hail The Apocalypse around mid 2014, wanna see them live because they kick ass!
Sweet review Sam this album rules!
+Cassady Dunn ISIS rules too. That will probably get me put on some CIA watch list. :(
you want some disturbing shit, check out "Anne's Story: How smoking kills?" that was directed by a 12-year-old girl. Spookily good!
You didn't mention the greatest part in Beserkr: There where the song completely shapeshifts at around 2 minutes and 35 seconds! :-/
Great Review \m/
my fav of this albums is "Heksebrann"
black & roll
What r they ...?
THEY'RE KILLER !!!!!
Svartmesse means Black Mass as in the religious act.
do the new album
Never would've expected a score that high for this type of album
I love kvelertak!

While I agree with Sam and everyone that this was purely a rock record but non metal fans will still think it's metal

''Kevelertak'' please

Rock?? Its hardcore-metal
kflellertakk? wtf... KVÆLERTAK
Kvelertak* ;)
lol skål doesn't mean cheers. it means skull... back in the days it was common that soldiers used skulls of the enemy as a goblets.
You fucked up. It's cheers or bowl.
Sounds like a gimmick band.
It means chokehold so beware...
I’d say they’re the furthest from a gimmick band. I’d say theyre the exact opposite. Zero gimmicks just crazy hard to define music. Which I guess scares metal heads.
Well it isn't.
