    Whenever I start to feel any sense of doubt I think about this: There is no way that a book written over 5,000 years by 50+ authors and editors with 1,800 fulfilled prophecies all bread crumbing and culminating in the most influential man in history JESUS CHRIST. (A homeless man who in 3 years convinced a group of 12 men plus some family members that he was God and they believed it so deeply they died instead of recanting it.

      That's what I do too. Like think about it, The Bible is so interconnected, so complex, like how can you fake it? If a dude just decided to make a fake religion one day then how did they manage to be so consistent on their message? Like surely somebody had their ego hurt about the whole "we're sinners and are deserving of death and need God". Surely that somebody had to say that the whole thing is fake or at least make a huge chasm in the Bible. BUT NO! The Bible is consistent. There's so much stuff going on behind the scenes, so much poetry that it makes me wonder, How could somebody reject this piece of art?

      It's also interesting to think about how extremely timely Christ was, He arrived precisely at the right time in history with great infrastructure and connectivity of the Roman Empire which allowed for free travel throughout much of Europe, the initial critical stages of the Christian faith coincided by divine timing with Pax Romana period, which allowed the apostles to spread the faith in such a rapid fashion, Christ died in 33 AD in the levant, just 150 years later Christianity was present in Gaul, 3000 kilometers away from where He died.
      And early Christianity did not spread by persecution, but despite of it, inside an empire which was extremely hostile to them, but somehow by the grace of God they continued to spread and eventually adopted the very same faith they had been persecuting.

    I lapsed for 15 years because of the whole "don't ask questions" attitude at the baptist church I went to as a child. Christians and churches need to accept that doubt is normal, and we need to be able to talk about it. It was listening to apologists debating atheists that I admired at the time that ended up convincing me to return to the faith.

    Has anyone else noticed how slippery faith is? Political views are so cemented, but when it comes to faith, you can be 100% sure one day, and the next you feel all these doubts, even though you were absolutely convinced the day before? I mean even that alone leads me to believe there are strange things at play, maybe invasive doubts from -someone- or -something- that doesn't want you to have faith, or maybe faith is stripped from us so that we investigate things further end ultimately find our faith reinforced, a piece of metal can only be turned into a beautiful sword with some harsh hammering after all.

    • @newme1589
      @newme1589 Před 2 měsíci

      Thats because (and this is using science) political views are more tangible like "X leads to Y".
      In religion, it doesn't work this way, its not "Pray X to get Y", but more like "Do X, and after death you will find out if it worked" type of deal.

      Ive thought about this too. I see some holes in this reassurance as mentioned above but it's been proven anecdotally for me. I have done extensive research into the death and resurrection and have came to find more evidence for it than most historical things I know. Yet still im at a place of doubt today, it literally makes no rational sense but here I am. I cannot see how there is not a force acting against my faith. Just keep trusting in god and you'll be stronger than you were before, God bless.

    • @louiszhang3050
      @louiszhang3050 Před 2 měsíci

      There's definitely something spiritual about it. But not to over-spiritualize it, I do think it's (somewhat) reasonable. Political views can change and we can be wrong, but we don't really think about it that much because, really, what impact does it have on us? Faith, on the other hands, has MASSIVE impact on our lives. And it's not like anyone has truly seen God, so it's natural to ponder these things, realizing the cost if we are wrong. People who don't doubt or think about faith either do not care, do not realize the weight of faith, or do not use their brain.

    I also have a friend who is similar to yours in that he wants to believe but isn’t fully intellectually convinced. We’ve had many conversations over the years and I think he is inching his way closer to the faith. However, these conversations have also served to challenge and ultimately strengthen my own faith and allow me to share it more effectively with others. Doubt can sometimes be a blessing in disguise.

    • @babbly5717
      @babbly5717 Před 2 měsíci

      I suggest you tell your friend the historical evidence for Jesus's resurrection. If this is true not only is god real but Jesus is real and therefore we are on the right side. Look into lee strobels case for. Christ and sean mcdowells fate of the apostles, it only takes the slightest amount of faith (aka only a couple apostles definitively died as martyrs but it was the two most prominent and it's not unreasonable to believe all of them did). All arguments can now be answered from a place of faith and trust me there is a good answer for all of them. The more you look into apologetics you see how futile atheist arguments are (coming from a former one). Even the best are mostly intellectual fallacies. God bless, I pray your friend can break the barrier of faith and can experience God's love!

    Don’t be discouraged by doubt! It’s okay to challenge your faith because that’s how we make it stronger. As a 19 year old male I understand how terrifying it feels to think God might not care. While I can’t say I’ve seriously doubted God’s existence or the resurrection, I’ve always had issues with understanding why God puts me in the situations I’m in.
    My family had been attending a Nazarene church for over seven years when we left at the start of the pandemic, and 15 year old me was left doubting why God would ever take my friends and fellowship away from me. But later in 2020 my best friend, who is the pastor’s daughter, reached out to me via text to see how I was doing. She had no idea at the time but she showed me that God always has a way of making things work out. I truly believe that God was working through her to help me at a time when I was probably at my lowest.
    My family has tried attending a Baptist church since but hasn’t gone in like a year or so, but I’ve started reconnecting with my friend’s family at their church every once in awhile and me and my friend are hoping to start a young adults group there.

I created an essay on why her view is false and while I was creating the essay, I came across some very horrifying Quran verses, which convinced me not to convert to Islam; I also used these quotes in my essay. I’ve been agnostic for the last ten years. I grew up Christian, but other than one or two moments, I never felt the presence of god. I never had a relationship with him and the churches around me really emphasized that aspect. It wasn’t the doubts about materialism that caused me to drift. It was the silence. My brother died when I was 18 and for the next seven months I prayed desperately for anything, strength, healing, a calling, reassurance, something to help me, and nothing came, not a speck of responsibility or fellowship. I felt like I was speaking into a void, like the other end of the line had lost connection, so I left the faith. I never had any problems with the philosophical stuff, so I kept that, the lessons and tried to live my life in that way, but I can’t have a relationship with someone who I’ve never known, and I don’t want to consider myself a Christian when I can’t believe in it other than saying it’s useful, but not absolutely true.

    i had a period of doubt when i was a teenager, around the same time i had suicidal thoughts. although my doubts tended to be more along the lines of whether my faith even existed, or if God even cared.
    i was raised in a christian family, and was baptized when i was 6, so i remembered being born again and feeling the peace of God cover me, and his Spirit enter me, so i had that as backup everytime i doubted, but the feeling of the spirit working in and through me i had been convinced by other christians (not so much in exact words, but seeds of doubt on my having claimed operating in the gift of wisdom without any prayer or ways to verify by my youth pastor and others) was just my own self righteousness and ego, so i was kinda suicidal (due to alot of things at the time, not just that) and doubting my faith, but everytime i wanted to end it i remembered that God would disprove of suicide. so if God was real, then i was hooped.
    thankfully i broke out of that depression, and years later had a proper spiritual experience that has helped me to not only operate in the spiritual again, but firmed my faith in God. i cant argue intellectually for God well, but experiencially, spiritually, and emotionally i have learnt to defend my faith and explain it to others.

There were times when I had anxiety attacks late at night caused by existential dread. My doubts were primarily rooted in the historical aspect, as in, did these things actually happen? This led me to look more into theology and apologetics.

    I’m having a lot of struggles with getting right with God currently. I still battle against sin (blasphemy, lust, baring false witness against myself, coveting), and I am currently torn between staying with my current denomination (Episcopal) and leaving for another (likely Lutheran or Continental Reformed). I’m also reading the Bible, and learning that some of my current theological convictions may be wrong. I genuinely feel like I’m being physically cut into parts, limb from limb, but I know the Lord will be my refuge. Amen.

    For me the idea of materialism is completely ridiculous, if I wasn’t Christian I would be an occultist and that scares me. The truth I say though (as someone who has been possessed by demons in the past) is that you should side with he that wants you to live over he that wants you to die.
    And also, if a demon leads you away from Christianity, then Christianity is true

    No matter how much I don't want it to be so, I have recently drifted away from God because of His silence towards my prayers and questions. Since I've been trying to deepen my faith, I've noticed that everything in relation to my faith is going great until I see that my prayers, fears, anxieties, doubts, etc. are not answered. No matter how much I wait for answers, they never come. I try my best to at least keep a remnant of faith alive while waiting for the situation to change, but I increasingly doubt that it will. I try to believe as much as I have the strength and trust to do so, but I'm growing tired more and more of what seems to me is a cry for help into nothingness. I don't know how much longer I can endure my fruitless efforts, but I try every day to fight as hard as I can against letting go of faith completely.

    To your biology major friend: you're in the perfect field to grow your faith from an intellectual point of view. When you realize that you can fill half a library with the information we know about just the cell and cellular processes, and all of that knowledge combined is STILL estimated at only about 1% of the entire function of the cell and its origins, you'll realize there is no possible way life is here by chance. The cell is the ultimate proof that life is here only because of a divine creator.

      Personally i don't think that's enough. That's like saying that those kids on Masterchef couldnt cook those amazing recipes because they are just kids.
      Just because something is extremelly complex, doesn't mean it has to be created with a purpose.
      For example, there is that abstract art movement where the artist splashes, at random, paint on a huge canvas. You look at that and are like "wow so many colours and patterns !! I wonder what it means..." and the artist will be like "literally made in 5 minutes at random".
      Now, do i believe that "something coming from nothing" is extremelly suspicious ? Yes, there might have been creation there. However, complexity does not equal "purpose" if that makes sense !

    Last night I had a sudden realization that although I wanted to believe in Christianity, I just wasn't so convinced. I was almost fully convinced of Monotheism, having taken Biology, and seeing the intricacies of the human mind and body, how everything interconnects. I was overcome suddenly with a wave of fear that even though I could gather as much evidence as I want for Christianity or Judaism or Islam, I would never be sure. I was so scared that I would pick wrong and spend eternity in hell, in constant unbearable pain forever, away from my creator and father. I was scared, and I prayed that whoever God may be, that of Christianity, or Judaism, or Islam, or even Hinduism or any other religion, he might send me a definitive sign of which religion was correct, and that whatever happened, if I go to hell it would not be because of my ignorance of the truth, but my violation of it. When I saw the video title, I thought that it was perfect so I clicked, but only a few minutes later did I realize that just maybe, this was the sign I had prayed for. Assuming that some religion is correct, we may assume one of the following things:
    1. The amount of virtuous but unaligned people would not enter the heaven. It is possible to consider that not only vast majority of people would not get to heaven
    2. We have absolutely no idea what the virtue is, or alternatively
    3. We have absolutely no clue what all of it is, and what we beileve in today is a mix of historical anecdotes with constantly changing reading. The word may stay the same, but it can paint a different picture for everyone who reads it.
    With that said, your work is amazing, and I enjoy a lot your guided tour into Christian perspective of understanding God. Until today... I don't mean this in nearly the insult he did but I do believe if you are truly open minded it takes a lot more faith to believe there isn't a god. As many prominent atheist say, there is nothing that could convince them god is real, that is called faith.

    Even while facing my most severe doubts of my faith, I could never not believe in God just from the moral argument. If one group of humans, a tribe we'll say, kills another tribe to take its possessions and territories, everyone would agree that's wrong. However, if one family of apes kills another family of apes for such a reason, it's not wrong at all. In fact, from an atheistic perspective, the latter case is actually necessary because survival of the fittest is the mechanism by which only the most dominant genes are passed along and the species as a whole becomes better equipped for survival. It only makes sense that the act is wrong in the former scenario if all humans are made in the image of God and endowed with a spark of the divine, and everyone will one day be held accountable to this supreme moral authority.
    Incidentally, I'm always amused when atheists counter with "I don't need any god to know that [insert act here] is wrong or to have moral standards." Perhaps they don't, but they're standard isn't authoritative. At least, it's only as authoritative as their ability to impose it on others. As soon as another party can impose a contrary standard on them, they're standard is no longer authoritative.
    They're also taking for granted that the reason they know something like murder or slavery is wrong is because they were born in a society built on Judeo-Christian values. They've grown up with those those standards as a ubiquitous moral code. That morality has been baked into them because of the influence Christianity has had on our society from previous generations. They know that slavery is wrong because a couple of centuries ago, Christians started the abolitionist movement which fought tirelessly to overcome the worldwide dominant acceptance of slavery. If they had been born today in a place like Punjab, India, they would have no moral opposition to the institution whatsoever. The existence of objective morality necessitates a divine authority.

    I was going to ask if you could make a video on basically why paganism is wrong or something like paganism debate, their arguments and a chirstian counterpoint to it (perhaps even via different chirstian denomination viewpoint which I would assume would be solidly the same).
    I have a friend who came out to me as a pagan, and it never gotten to my mind that paganism is coming back and why we as chirstians don't believe it or atleast argue against it. I know the popular reasons for it such as idolatry, sacrifices, and the ones mentioned in the bible but has never took the time to reflect on it nor account other details.
    We as chirstians have an answer to almost every little disputes from other denominations, religion to atheism but have ignored the growing arguments from paganism (atleast the new ones).

    RZ, I agree with 99% but I think it’s harmful when you give atheists false legitimacy by inflating their numbers. Secular/not religious is NOT atheism. Atheists are a tiny minority of the population, and we shouldn’t treat such a radical and small group as the alternative to Christianity. Lumping agnostics, casual/nominal Christians, those who are spiritual but not religious, etc. under one “Atheist” umbrella just makes them seem more mainstream culturally than they are and arguably helps to promote their ideology accidentally.
