    Good info. I never noticed that doors unlock in P! One time I was picking up my daughter at train station. I had my husbands suv. All of a sudden a guy hopped into passenger seat. Then stopped, we looked at each other, I don’t know who was more shocked. It was comical. With a quick apology he jumped out as quick as he could!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I have a 2019 RAV4 and I just did it today!!! I never really liked the doors opening once the car was placed in park. I was telling my husband there had to be a way that this could be modified. I just didn’t feel like looking in the manual at the time. Because we also have a 1999 Toyota RAV4, and time we put the key in the ignition and turn all of the doors automatically lock and I was thinking hey if this is a 1999 Toyota and it has this feature the 2019 should be able to do the same thing or have a better feature than the factory default of going into park and then all of the doors unlocking once again thank you so much for taking time out to make this video for people like me who didn’t feel like investigating the manual

I had the dealership intall the plate holder on the front but when I went to screw the plate into the holes on the holder, I could only screw it in less than 1/4 inch. Is this the way it is suppose to be? or am I suppose to continue screwing it thru the bumper (which just doesn't seem right). Thanks for your help with this and thanks for all your videos.

    Older Toyota vehicles(at least back to 2004) have this same feature. But you may have to set it up, yourself. There are 3 options I believe. The manual tells you how to do it, with a key turn sequence. If you disconnect the battery, you may have to redo it.

    @joshuamiyasato9775 Před rokem +5

    Great public notice video. I was aware on how to change the settings for over a decade but good info for those who do not know. I never liked the factory Auto Unlock setup. The Auto Unlock when shifting to park is really only suited for taxi/Uber drivers. That is really the only situation where you would want all your doors to unlock automatically to give easy access to strangers. Really even then it is still preferable to manually control and just push the unlock button.
    I also dislike the factory auto Parking brake engagement when shifting to park. Turning that off is as simple as holding the button down until auto engagement is disabled. No need to engage the parking brake every time you shift into park. It will just wear out the engagement actuator faster. I’d prefer to have control of when I engage parking brake as well.
    With that said it is also worth noting that the door locks themselves have a little actuator motor themselves on each handle. I have had to replace a couple of these on my old Prius because they do eventually wear out with excessive use. They can easily cost well over $100 each to replace and thats if you DIY. Pay someone else to do it and you could spend hundreds to a thousand dollars just so your power door locks work again.
    This usually only becomes an issue on cars over a decade old that have had heavy use. Having the locks engage and auto disengage every time especially if you don’t really need them to is a waste it wears them out faster. This is something you don’t think about until they stop working.

      @jayjaynella4539 Před rokem

      Every safety system has its drawbacks, resulting in more repairs to vehicles that did not need to be done in the past. Lot more use here on the door and lock actuators for starters. I can also see those locks not working if a fuse blows or if the car is on fire with no power available whatsoever, how then do you get out?

    • @joshuamiyasato9775
      @joshuamiyasato9775 Před rokem +1

      @@jayjaynella4539 the door locks still work even if the actuator motor fails. They just are no longer automatic and powered. Can still manually open from inside by moving switch or pulling handle. Gets really irritating though when your door(s) no longer automatically unlock with Smartkey or fob unlock button. At that point you need to manually unlock with key and make sure all doors are locked the old fashioned way when leaving the car. Not a safety issue just really irritating. On a side note when they do begin to fail they usually do so slowly as in they will intermittently work for weeks or months until they finally give up the ghost.

    I had this same setting for my 2018 Honda Civic in opposite way. Only drivers door opens when unlock and my friends always yell at me open doors man. I had to change unlock all doors when parked mode. It was useful for my Uber drive also. 😅😂

    What about when you have your key in your pocket and approach the vehicle and it unlocks automatically? I am always scared because it has the feature that when I approach it unlocks but it will also unlock from the passenger side if someones hand is caught by the sensors. Is there a way to turn this off?

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  Před rokem +1

      It should be set to unlock driver door only and shouldn’t allow a person on other side to activate the unlock signal.

  • @alwayscuriousalwayslearnin

    I have an older Lexus which doesnt have the screen . I never liked that feature I used tech stream to set it up so that when I unlock my doors it only unlocks the drivers door ( I am mostly alone) and also when I put my car into park only my drivers doors unlocks which I should change,normally you door will unlock when the door handle inside so no real point in having it auto unlock when I put the car in park lol

    My 2000 Saturn LS1 was ahead of its time. It would automatically lock all the doors as soon as you moved it out of park and it wouldn't unlock when you put it into park. You had to literally unlock it yourself.
