These knobs have been dimming dash lights on all kinds of makes and models of vehicles for decades. Gotta love these “life hacks”.
People make videos on literally anything now...
"Did you know about this Secret button on the steering wheel that can adjust the cruise control?" There's a video.
OMG no kidding.
My 96 accord does the same thing...
Also the symbol showing that it is for adjusting the dash brightness is literally right next to it
I have 3 Toyotas and I was not aware of that. I bet you did not know about it until someone showed you. LOL
Its not a secret, its on page 99 of the owners manual in the globe box.
Lol
I've been doing this since the 90's...🤣🤣🤣
expecting people to RTFM is a stretch
What’s a “globe” box?
Soldja Boy, tell him ❤😂
No so much a secret. The old school design of that odometer change knob was standard back in the day on all cars. This was how I changed the brightness of my dash in my 1973 Chevy Nova.
I'm more impressed by the fact that you need a key to start the truck.
Probably a manual. Mine needs a key to start.
I have a 21. They're a choice. You can get keyless.
@@Sheild_against_the_wicked556 not if the truck is manual.
@hardenxx1335 really? Huh. That's weird.
@@Sheild_against_the_wicked556 if it’s manual it only comes with keys. Keyless manuals started with the 2024
My Toyota is a 2010. Back then they had the sense to just have clearly marked separate control for dash brightness. Easy to find and operate, even while driving. Old school simplicity.
Mine is a 2009 and it works like the one in the video. It’s only you that’s special
Every video that has a Tacoma in it always has a empty tank. I can relate I’m always empty on my truck
haha yep
Those things are gas guzzlers like the 4runner
Glad I bought a 2wd 2.7
@@markkus1134said no one ever.
Hard on fuel pumps always low
That's on the 3rd gen Toyotas. The 2nd gen (2005-2014?) has a separate knob to do that. On the second gen you use that to reset the 'Maintenance Required'/5,000 mile oil change light too, just hold it in as you turn the ignition key to start the vehicle.
You can also move it around like a joystick to turn your front wheels!
ill have to try that one out
Yup, I’ve been doing that for years, took my steering wheel off
😂😂
lol
not all of them. my 2003 sequoia has a separate knob
TF never knew that😂🤦🏽♂️
Shhhhhhhhhhh. It's a secret. Now EVERYBODY knows the secret that was never a secret.
LOL!
Toyota technician for two years, never knew this lol
haha learn something new everyday huh
So you’re telling me that little door on the side panel of my truck with some type of cap is where the gas goes?? I feel so dumb. Everytime my truck stops working I trade it. Never knew you could fill it up with gas yourself🤯
LMFAO.....and people think you love them when you say "i have had 6 of those"
Drain the blinker fluid first, it's liquid gold.
Yeah vehicles have been doing that for decades now. Thanks, professor👍. Make sure and make a video about the secret glove box light next.
will do!
@@TheUnrestricted🤣
I have 3 Toyotas and I was not aware of that. I bet you did not know about it until someone showed you. LOL
@@mcconn746 Yeah that is not a "Toyota" thing. Just because it took YOU so long to figure this out doesn't mean it did everybody else. I was shown this, yes. Back in 1999 when I started driving my dads 1986 Chevy....which also had the feature.
@@CrowT I did not "figure it out". I appreciate him showing me.
I wish you would be nicer about things you know but some of us don't know. We who are not as smart as you are appreciate learning from CZcams. I wish you well.
Born yesterday so I read the manual and by happenstance I learned this new trick.
The youth are getting smarter everyday.
Mine has separate "wheel" for brightness
So I’ll say this all these clowns are here shitting on you for making a video I’ve looked through my manual a few times and never noticed that so I appreciate you showing this.
When a “life hack” is actually a common feature on Toyota vehicles for many years. SHOCKER
Someone didn't read his owners manual, didn't pay attention to his new owners briefing or, is just so excited about simple things in a hyperbolic way.
This has only been around for the last 50+ years. Milenials are going to discover headlights one day.😅
Pretty old technology, which says a lot about Toyota I suppose😅
Lol bro my 88 camry had that feature lol did u know they once had a phone in houses that was like a community phone! Before cell phones!
Who ever read the owners manual would have known this "secret"...
Hm i dont read 450 page car manuals but im sure someone out there had done it
There's even a picture by the knob 🤣🤣
That's why it's a secret 😂😂
Thanks for this I just thought my eye sight was getting worse 😂
I figured this was common knowledge. Born in ‘82 and it seems like I’ve known about that my whole life. A lot of vehicles use that.
Everyone should read their owner’s manuals. There are thousands of secrets hidden within! Not many people know, but in the glove box, on the passenger side, there’s usually a treasure trove of tips and tricks about your vehicle. It also tells you things like how to change a flat tire, recommended maintenance and care techniques, and there’s even a map that tells you what all of the jumbled stuff under your hood is! 10/10 must read
This been known since the beginning of time. 😅
No, no it absolutely hasn't. Corollas were invented until 650AD at the earliest.
One minute of my life I will never get back
I drove this truck for 5 years. 100,000 miles. Never knew this.
I would see this video after selling yesterday
No kidding really? It’s been like that on every Tacoma I’ve ever had. Lol
I found this out on accident in my 2010 toyota Corolla s. I was pissed because i have owned the car for over 6 years. This video came about a month too late. 😂
That’s interesting, i see the newer Toyotas have done cost cutting with the feature to use one dash knob instead of two. My 2016 Camry has this button just for odometer, and another one on the left that is only for brightness.
60 yr old news.
What a secret 😂😂😂😂 lots of cars has that button 😂😂😂😂
Sounds like Walter junior from braking baf
Not really lmao
I twisted my Toyota’s button and now she is taking me to court for a felony charge 😂
I knew that and prefer to keep it at low setting. When I had the 2004 Tacoma with bright setting the bulb burns out faster because it was incandescent bulbs.
I have a bright and dim button to the left of my steering wheel on my 2021 Rav4. So no need to use that for me 😂
Me watching this all focused while driving a Toyota Starlet from 1994 (no airco, no electric windows...I don't think this applies to my Toyota)😂
Interesting but that won't work on my 2007 rav4 there is a small button that dims and brightens near a convenient cubby area that holds my sanitizer and tire pressure tool and above it is the dial that changes the brightness.
I have an ‘07 Tacoma and the brightness is on the side - with a wheel - by itself - alone! 🤣😂
2022 tacoma wtf bro that’s not even push to start ? And i have a 2017🤣??
it’s an SR5 TRDs have push starts
@@TheUnrestricted my mom has 2020 with a push start. I didn’t take notice to which she has. What’s the difference in models?
I have a 2022 TRD and it has push to start. Lower trims (SR/SR5) don’t have it.
Chill dawg. Glad you made it
New kid on the block, has never had a Taco before….gotta luv it, keep on trucking kid👍🏻
Right on
Kids 😂 they're always learning
Just bought one ( ‘22 ) I would have never figured that out… great, thank you so much
That’s not a secret bud, just old technology that hasn’t gone away yet because it works just fine😂
Common knowledge
Damn never knew that lol
So that’s where the legos hangout…
On my 2010 6 speed manual TRD Offroad Tacoma the dimmer is a little vertical wheel on the right side of the steering wheel.
Thank you so much. God bless you!
News flash from 2002!!!
I discovered this in my dad's car 20 years ago 😂
Imagine that, you can dim your panel lights. Who would have thought.
Well well well thanks mate😂
Well not all Toyotas work this way. Both of mine have separate buttons for this dimmer function.
This is something that Doug Demuro should have told us about
Not only the screens, but for all the leds on the doors/radio, a/c knobs etc. get adjusted as well to brighter or dimmer when you adjust that odometer knob.
Just got a 23, thank you didnt know that
Ive had a Toyota for 23 years and never knew this until 21 years ago
Bro is almost out of gas😂
Just like my cars in the seventies had.
Thank you!
Wow. My life is complete now
So just like Honda. 😂 yippee
Looks exactly the same fully bright or dimmed..lol
This was in cars in 1960s 😂
Wooooooow how you guys didn't noticed that 😂
That's on every car I've ever driven in my life, since my 1967 Buick
Is this your first vehicle ever? This is common knowledge....
I've known this since 1989 😂
You need to get gas.
I wish my 2019 had a key start
Dude all old school cars had them !
I have been looking for the dimming switch in my tacoma. Thank you!
no problem
It also resets your oil change light too.
Wow . Sherlock Holmes here lmfao
crazy how much you learn reading the fuckin manual 😂
I remember when I first started driving too😂
good old days
Wow! It’s like I’ve never looked at the dash of my truck before
Never knew this secret on my 2nd gen Tacoma!
Isn't there a way to change the background of that display? Like to a different graphic.
And probably pushing and hold after an oil change
What does that do? Thanks
Very cool just got a 2019 not sure if it had it
Ooooo like, me if you’re using a physical key, I’m guessing you have a 6MT???
Yes everybody that's taken a driving class has already know this is not a secret
This guy must be lonely to tell everyone what we all ready know
Cool cool imma try it next time I jump in my truck. Ty
I knew I was going to see these comments! lol.
My 07 Camry has the same function, it ain't no secret.
That doesn't work on just "any" Toyota. It has to be one with that type of screen.
Where did you get fender flares from ? I want to put some black OEM ones on mine but cannot find them anywhere
i blacked them out myself
Black oem fender flares are easily had by going to the dealer. Any TRD OR comes with Black, non-painted flares, so you can ask for 2016 - 22 Tacoma TRD Off-road flares and it'll work. I cut mine to install a CBI bumper and messed one up so I asked them for a 2017 Taco TRD-OR driver flare and got it in 2 days.
Just in case YT removes my link, here are the part numbers that you can ask/search for:
Part numbers 75871 and 75872 for the front L and R
75873 and 75874 are the rear left and right. 👍
Definitely looks like it was probably done at home. You can try your dealer, they have some Denver flares through the parts department, and you'll get a nice uniform finish that doesn't look out of place.
on the gen before that its just the trip button, mine has a little mouse scroll wheel type thingy to the left of the steering wheel, as a man with ADHD its fun to fuck with.
Nothing secret about that button bro, sorry you just figured it out 😭
How do you check your percentage on oil on your Tacoma 2020 ?
My nephew used to work at the Toyota plant that makes the Tacoma in Baja California. He used to work in the paint shop and he was getting paid $100 for working 6 days a week. He only lasted one month because it was not enough even just to feed his family
A few years ago, their tinkering allowed the younger generation to have mind boggling experience of inventing cursive..
Found that out before I even signed the paperwork. Also I had no clue they had a keyed ignition still. I’m push start.
Didn't know that, thanks.
Pretty cool I'm going to try that soon as I get in my Tacoma
yes
