Chef Brian, it's rice to meat stew.
Go react uncle Roger new video on Jamie Oliver again. Now is vegan pad Thai.
South Indian cooking mainly TamilNadu (state)
I'm from South India my self..It's a very traditionally prepared Mutton B/R . 95% nobody cooks it like that but yeah b/r and pulav(also another rice dish) u can find them all over India from east to west and north to south .(all have different process of making which taste different with variety of spice and condiments .
Do you have a link to the original video? Thanks
Initially the people running the Village Cooking Channel had to shout due to poor mic quality but I guess the shouting was kind of charming to most of their viewers so it just became a part of the channel
That’s hilarious and so seredipitous! Lol
@@ChefBrianTsao I had to google that word, first time I ever heard seredipitous
literally made me feel like I don’t know English

Seeing this was something very different from what we are used to in the kitchen haha Great Review Brian and Frenchy!
OOh, didn't expect to see you in the comments here, Chef!
Can that smol kitchen handle a rice-stuffed lamb, James? Baked, maybe?
@@recyclebin Pretty sure mutton is expensive enough the world over that anyone'd only be getting portions of it occassionally... but I'm curious myself
This calls for the three of you chefs to get outside and cook this baby!
You three need to collab!
Lefthanded Indian here, and I *did* announce loudly, at a family wedding, that I wiped myself with my right hand when elderly relatives were looking shocked at how I ate. I was 4, there was chaos, it was great.
(And I think a couple of other people already said this, but usually if Indians say mutton we mean goat.)
😂
Finally found someone similar. I've had this experience a couple of times and all the relatives react the same way!
Not just the elderly, these awesome dudes feed the homeless, I believe I saw in some comments. Humble af great cooks!
The guy from vzc does the same thing, making tons of food and taking them to women and children shelters. Love watching things like this happening.
As far as I know, in Indian cooking, mutton typically refers to goat.
Goat meat is my favourite.
That's strange, because Mutton comes from French, "mouton" which means sheep.
Yeah, it is regional as to which animal it refers to. I grew up with mutton being a goat, it wasn't until moving to the USA that I heard it used to refer to sheep
@@charles-antoinemartel-roy regional...
In some parts of Asia mutton is goat meat, but most just refer to it as simply goat meat.
This channel is very famous and these guys are from Tamil nadu which is the south of India.
Fun fact: refrigeration has been around since the 4th century BC. Early Persians would dig into the ground and store ice brought from the mountains during winter and would last throughout the summer. The storage units were called "yakhchal" and were one of the major exports Persia had with both the Roman Republic and Carthage.
And they froze meat in them ? Did they?
Frenchy shouting back at them... the best part...... LMAO
Agreed 😂
So true
i speak Tamil. i just had flashbacks of somone parroting a conversation between me and my mom at the local grocceries.

The Village Cooking Channel is headquartered in the state of Tamil Nadu, one of the southernmost parts of India. The Tamil have their own language and cultures, especially when it comes to food. That act of serving a big communal meal on banana leaves is done for festive occasions, and the act of cooking for a whole village being left to specifically chosen workers is also associated with them. Something to note though is that biryani is more associated with northern India, Pakistan, and the cuisine of Islamic regions than it is with the Tamils of southern India and Sri Lanka. The term biryani comes from ancient Persian and literally means cooked rice.
One fun note I should add, the Tamil language is the source of several words that are now used worldwide. My favorite example? The word curry is derived from the Tamil word for sauce: kari.
Curry is indeed an anglicized version of kari.
One word for biryani being North Indian "Hyderabad"
@@aditipant249😂 👍
Biryani being North Indian only is nothing but absolute rubbish and I say that as a North Indian. In fact the south can actually claim Biryani more so than Persia ever can.
There is no such thing as 'curry' in Indian households. It was marketing term invented for Brits around a hundred years ago, who couldn't handle the hundred different names for the different dishes and styles. There is a 'kari patta' or 'kari leaf' very commonly added to food in South India, but it is added to rice, to sambhar, to breakfast food, and has nothing to do with curry as westerners understand the term. The rest of the comment re biryani being more north Indian and Pakistani is correct.
Heyyo. From the language they are speaking, it's from the south of India - the state of Tamil Nadu. I am from there myself but the style of cooking varies from each village, household etc. But, I just learnt something new about my hometown😂! I haven't seen much of village cooking, so thanks a lot for reacting and sharing ❤
That’s so cool!
For the fact in india we dont store our meats everything is brought the same day and cooked the same day esp from where they come from. So no need to worry abt it. And theyre from the southern part of india in a state called Tamilnadu. Yknow the place where the term curry originates from. And yeah hes right about thise pots those are usually passed down generations. We have pots as big as to hold 250 khs
Do react more to Village Cooking Channel they are the most wholesome group of people giving back to the society❤
Def will do more!
@@ChefBrianTsaocan’t wait for more Village Cooking Channel reactions 🥳
I am from tamilnadu which is south India...village cooking channel is from our state they had 24 Million subscribers and also they will get average 5million views on each video but their video doesn't have any ads and sponsors because they believe money is important but more money will control our life so they dont put ads on videos and even though they act on movies but they didn't got money from them.. Hats off to them....
I went to check out their channel after you mentioned how big this video was, to see what the highest view count video is, and it's literally just them making watermelon juice, and it has 253 million views! And they have dozens of videos with tens or hundreds of millions of views like this! That's actually nuts, idk how i've never heard of them until you guys and Uncle Roger reacted to them.
I already stated in a previous video abt the fact that worldwide mutton is older sheep and goat is called chevon worldwide, in India goat is called mutton because when early britishers first arrived they had a lot of dietary restrictions on meat as they were new, if they ate beef it would anger hindu traders and of they ate pork it would anger muslim traders, so the limited options were fowl(which indians didnt eat even tho all chickens originated from india ,but british popularized eating it) and goat, but at that time the english church banned eating of goat as it was considered the devil's animal and they preferred ppl eat sheep as it was lords animal. Due to lack of sheep meat the Britishers named goat meat mutton to trick the church, and thats why goats name stayed on as mutton in India instead of chevon.
Wow thanks for the info❤
The video was taken in Tamilnadu which is a south Indian state. Tamilnadu is a state which is famous for its village agriculture. So the items are like home made as far as I know because it's a village
Thanks for sharing!
@@ChefBrianTsao🙏🙏😊😊😊
Honestly I am jealous of how happy and care free they are. You won't find that in most other areas of the world especially right now. Very refreshing and for a great cause.
Probably the best aspect of social media is that people can make videos doing charitable things like this and actually make money off the add revenue. Beautiful work these guys are doing and with so much joy and energy!
There is a misconception that biriyani is only made with long-grain rice, it's not true because most of the southern style biriyani (Thalapakatti Biryani, Thalassery Biryani, Malabar Biryani, and Ambur Biryani, etc.) is made with short-grain rice for, example jeerakasala rice, it has more fragrance.
In south asia when we say mutton we're referring to goat not sheep btw
Frenchy accidentally asking for unsolicited DM's is just about as Frenchy as it gets
Peak Frenchy for sure!
Definitely do more of them, you'd be surprised how wholesome they are.
Tamil people are known for spices. In ancient times tamil people introduced and exported spices all over the world.
I just watch uncle roger react to this yesterday hahahah it's nice to get a chef perspective and input.
Thanks for tuning inn
@ChefBrianTsao no prob chef. Hope both of you having a good day and stay stroooonggg
Frenchy plugs something different in every episode and I love it
lol, I love it
I was surprised they could do that cooking in an outdoor location and film so well without flies everywhere.
Frenchie hit the *Thakkaaaallliiii* *Pachhai Thannniiii* and the *Kall Uppppuu* Perfectly. Chef's Kiss
2:56 OK!!!! Frenchy at his funniest lol
Jamie Olivers biryani is shocking. He is lucky Uncle Roger hasn't seen it 😅 probably one of his worst in terms of traditional recipe going out the window . It's about 4 minutes or so
"Luscious Leftover Lamb Biryani | Jamie's Money Saving Meals"
Please I need that review 😂😢
What the actual F? Jamie has a Biryani video? I am now actually scared to watch it.
@@ssjgoku276 its really bad. I mentioned it in the comments to Uncle Roger for a while but he must never see it from all the comments he gets.
Location : Tamil Nadu, India
You guys assume the gloves used for cooking are clean just like we assume the hands are clean
Everything is trust, hands or gloves.
They are feeding the elders for long time , so you know the food is prepared clean , because the orphanage management will not allow them further if any reported incidents for food poisoning or any other thing
yeah we wash our hands and feet like crazy
Using clean hands is *vastly* more environmentally responsible than 1-use plastic gloves full of dust and chemicals which are thrown away and choke our rivers and oceans and come back to us as microplastics in *everything*. It is absolutely criminal to use plastic 1-use gloves. And if you're reusing them - hell, just wash your hands.
Also those goats were probably just unalived before filming lol
Def
They are
They have goats in their home as pets and for milk
This is tamilnadu a south indian state you can gey any type of meat fresh there
I watch Best Ever Food Review channel With Sunny, he goes around the world eating crazy village food. He shows how fast goats and other stuff can go from grazing to being roasted.
@@ChefBrianTsao Frozen meat is a thing mostly in the metros in India. Tier 2 or 3 cities and villages get freshly slaughtered and butchered meat. It might be a holdover from refrigeration being relatively new to the country (or the class), but most people I know here will either go buy freshly butchered protein, or they'll buy a chicken and do the deed themselves.
@@recyclebin in the cities there are more people than livestock, so those had to come a long way, and the best way is to ship them frozen. In the villages it's the opposite, so why compromise on freshness when you have easy access to live animals?
I love these guys, especially the old dude with the big mustache and bugs bunny teeth. Frenchy yelling back at the guys had me laughing 😅
Dude, with how tender that meat is...who cares about a sear.
For real
+1
Tamil Nadu !!!!! South of India. As a Tamilian this is sooooo soooo the way they cook at the village side. There are many many types of village cooking. This is among the most true cooking channels we see. The statement made at the end was “ half cooking baath biriyani, seasoning a goat , cooking the goat with the rice cooked along inside it , emptying the goat of the rice and having the ripped up goat and curry along with the rice makes it as good as any biriyani that you would eat at a mass prepared wedding hall or function hall and we enjoyed so much we all ate the whole thing” The last thing said Frenchie mispronounced..... He said "Pacha Taneer" meaning - water......... The other stuff was well done. Good job with the repetition Frenchie !!!
Love some of these village cooking channels, had a chance to see an interview with someone who runs one and give some behind the scenes info.
They just donate most of the food to orphanages, or give out the food to the needy themselves.
Love their energy, love their cooking and most definitely love their message.
In the subcontinental area, mutton usually refers to goat.
When I was younger in school, one of the old ladies who worked in the kitchen used to make a homemade mutton pie, served with mash and gravy. Never had mutton since, I didn't even know what mutton was at the time 😅 but it was one of the nicest things I've ever had
Aww this made me smile😊 loved it! It was also really cool to see the way they cooked it
These guys are from the southern part of India, in the state of Tamil Nadu. They do a frick ton of videos just like this and if i can remember around 4-5 videos have more than a hundred million views and a lot more than just traditional cooking. They are worthwhile to watch and these things are so mouth watering, after even i had my biryani, i still feel hungry. Chicken, Fish, Veggies, Cakes and a lot more these guys can do. i would recommend y'all watch more of their cooking as it is a spectacle to see them do it for the greater good. Hope you would have a great day.
Absolutely want to see more reactions to Village Cooking Channel.
Frenchie looks so freaked out by them! 😂 Hilarious how he shouts back like they can hear him!! 😂
The shouting welcome is now their trademark and its awesome.
Mutton is weird in that it starts to refer to a different animal (the goat) as you start to go east. In South and Southeast Asia in particular, mutton is goat.
That was fresh turmeric.
Loved the video and loved the positive end to the video of them feeding the elderly of the village ❤
I'd eat that over a five star dish any day...cause I'm sure that's a flavor bomb.
They're from 'Tamil Nadu', a southern state.
Thanks for sharing!
I got the opportunity to eat from them because i am from tamilnadu of india. trust me no one can come near to their food taste not even any michelin star cook because i also had food from michelin star in u.k. they did many charity works so they deserved it.
NO ADS , NO DRAMA , NO PROMOTION , NO MUSIC... Only traditional cooking in traditional way... Village cooking channel ❤
Never in a million years did I ever expect Frenchie to scream Tamil words
Btw, he nailed 2/3, so good start.
That "தக்காளி, தண்ணீர் & கல் உப்பு" Was Pretty Spot on 🔥
Bruh we need those as sound bytes 😂
This was my first introduction to your channel and honestly it was INCREDIBLE! I love Frenchy shouting back at the men XD
🙏
I think it's funny that you can clearly see when Frenchy is learning something new and he's intrigued by it. He switches from clown mode to chef mode. He just kinda shuts up, stops joking, pays attention, and everything he says is very analytical 😂
Uncle Roger, did this last week?
Subbed. Came from JamesMakinson's channel you both are funny. Love the dynamic. Hoping to learn more about cooking as I'm admittedly a very amateur cook. I love biryani and I got so hungry watching this on James' channel. I could only imagine the smell of all the spices especially after they open the pot.
I was laughing at the whole video. Great video from you guys Thank you for posting
I love those guys. I catch them whenever I can. I love that rustic cooking over open fire. They’re my favorite as far as Indian chefs. Well I’d like Ranvier to. He’s an awesome chef.❤
This was a fun departure from the normal reactions! Keep up the good work.
I am down with more Village Cooking content. I never even heard of it.
Excuse me, I've been smoking the Devil's lettuce, but I would love to see you react to move videos where the cooking style isn't something you're familiar with or used to. While it did sound like the environment where the cooking was happening made you uncomfortable (I could be wrong), it also sounded like you learned something, and that's why I watch. While you're learning, I'm learning too, and your "stamp of approval" educates me on what I should and shouldn't be doing when I cook. I appreciate your videos, and the comedy you both add is the MSG on top!
I love these guys. They've got an energy I've only seen in Tik Tok and forgotten PBS chefs.
PS Southpaws represent!
Whenever i see these two guys i just want to hang out and have a drink with them :')
Tamil Nadu is the southern most state at the southern tip of India. It has a very long and well preserved history. The language is thousands of years old, its influence can be found in many modern languages from India to even European countries. These guys are amazing and do wonders for my faith in humantiy
Wow! I learned a lot watching this. Thanks for reacting to this.
Man I saw this from uncle Roger’s channel and it’s impressive how the mutton biriyani turned out
this is just purely speculation on my part but them removing the heads could have been just to make the video more palatable to more people. this channel is massive from what i can remember. and good on them. such interesting things that they can share.
This video is from TAMILNADU (South India)❤
When I went to India to visit my wife’s family I got some questions because I’m a left handed food eater.
My right hand is crap for dexterity to eat with.
And I believe this channel
Is from Tamil Nadu, where my wife’s family is from in southern India.
It’s an amazing country and the food is amazing.
Gotta practice your right hand to eat. It could take months or even years but muscle memory will take over soon enough. Good luck! 👍 (p.s. not many know this, but the thumbs up emoji is left-handed!)
If you guys feel like watching some other "village style" cooking from around the world, I recommend a channel called "De mi rancho a tu cocina" (From my ranch to your kitchen), about a Mexican granny making traditional ranch style (country style) Mexican food in an old style kitchen. I think her daughter helped her set up the channel during pandemic, the channel went viral and grew a lot since then.
So came here to say this: frenchie pronounciation of the tamil words are acrually great. Much better than what most not Tamil Indians can manage.
This is southern part of India called Tamil Nadu.
...and congrats to you guys for reaching 139 dozen views! 😂
Frenchy said he doesn't like to see the 'more' button - that was the shortest comment I could come up with!
Yes, please react to more of their videos. They are so wholesome.

The Channel needs more peas. 😜
Thanks Brian. Thank Frenchie. Always appreciate the videos gents.
I am from india big love to you guys

Anyone gonna comment on the giant box that says Gugafoods in the wide shots? What the heck is that?
Hopefully something new with Guga
Definitely check more of them especially if you love exotic cooking they have some brain, snails, intestines and other such recipes
health code violations aside that looks fuuucking delicious.
Oh frenchie definitely got the shouting right 😂
Lol you need to try the lechon baka in the philippines. They marinade a whole cow without the head in a pool and the meat falls off the bone
This is from south of India, I believe Andhra Style. but, in India not only biryani but all other dishes might change according to different states. You need to visit and try them one by one to understand the difference and trust me the experience will always be amazing in one or the other way Brian
Apart from the stuffed goat, this does remind me of when we would visit family in Melaka. My mom's cousins would throw a feast, and they would prep and cook everything outside over a wood fire. Just for the biryani though, everything else is in the kitchen.
U should really watch more of them!
We definitely want more reactions from village cooking channel
Ooooooooh....you guys are finally experiencing the famous Indian viewership phenomenon. This is going to be amazing!! 😂😂😂
Congratulations and good luck! 😀
Great video. These dudes rock. Another interesting channel for village type cooking is Wilderness Cooking. It's about an Azerbaijan chef who cooks whole animals and big, big portions. You guys would dig it.
That looks absolutely delicious. I need to get me some indian food.
As a person who speaks Tamil, I was impressed when you said tomato, it was spot on like a local that I did a second take to see if it was from the cooking video😆 you were really close with your impression🙌
by the way the camera they were using was RED. which is a high end cinema camera. they are from tamil nadu state wich is from the south side.
They shout to make sure their stuf isn't mistaken for ASMR and to wake the audience up.
They live in Chinna Veeramangalam, Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. Tamil nadu is the southernmost part of india a bit to the east. The elderly man is struggling with health issues so I hope that he feels better soon.
Would definitely like to see more
I hope we don’t have to wait for another year for your next cooking video! 😂
You should make whatever bad video you react to and try to make it better like JO’s butter chicken or his Thai Green Curry - Even Rachael Ray’s Pad Thai 👍
Try taking mint coriander green chilly and add some water and grind it in mixer grinder u will get one good spicy chutney as we say in india its like a spicy dip
Indian food is all about taste and smell .. unlike America where food is all about looks presentation and decoration stuffs..
OMG, Chef Brian! 😮
Uncle Roger just put out a new Jamie Oliver reaction video! 😃
IT IS HILARIOUS!!!🤣
You and Chef Paul MUST react to this one!👍🏻
There is another Chanel similar to this one called Grandpa kitchen. He would make massive amounts of food in the same way and then feed a bunch of children. Worth a watch as well.
Wilderness Cooking does the same. He makes gargantuan portions of food, but then feeds a bunch of kids from his village in the mountains of Azerbaijan. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether the kids are from an orphanage or not, but still, videos are incredible. Especially the ones he creates the oven he'll use to cook or a spit or sth. He built a tandoor oven for one video. Make sure to react to sth of his.
