  • In February 1986, nurse Anita Cobby, a former entrant in the Miss Australia quest, is walking home from Blacktown station in Sydney's outer-western suburbs. A Holden sedan pulls up and Anita is dragged into the vehicle. She is taken to a lonely spot where five young men take turns to hurt her. Finally her throat is cut, almost severing her head, and her body is left in a paddock. The five men are later caught and convicted of these despicable crimes and sent to jail for life, their papers are marked "never to be released". But something positive will come out of this appalling and deeply disturbing story, as Anita's grieving parents begin a support group for the families of victims, offering comfort and mutual help for more than 1000 loved ones of homicide victims.
    ----
Hosted by respected journalist, Steve Liebmann, CIA uncovers the true stories behind these cases through chilling re-enactments and access to the key detectives, family members and witnesses involved.

She was NOT in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was where she was suppose to be. Those monsters were every bit of wrong and had no business where she was. I can’t stand when people say that. It’s like blaming the victim.

I thought of all the legal and emotional arguments Then I heard an old farmer say, 'If you have a mad dog or a dangerous horse. You shout them because they are too dangerous to live. Why were the police not out that very night looking for her? There were two witnesses who saw her being grabbed into a car with a pile of men screaming at the top of her lungs, with one of them running after the car. The police were totally negligent not to have immediately sent out an alert for all police cars to look for that vehicle and save her. Sadly, the death penalty is not limited to cases of certainty. So, my concern is that people who are completely innocent are sometimes put to death. I don't mind if accomplices are also executed.
I consider them equally culpable, but people who have zero connection to a crime scene or planning a crime can be executed too. That isn't justice.

there should be different levels of conviction: vs reasonable doubt. In a case like this, there should be exceptional punishment options, depending on what's available. One, under the and horrific circumstances, the family of the victim should be given the option of doing whatever they want to the killers, no limits. Two, in these circumstances, the lynching crowd should have been given a go at them, no limits, no protection. Cases like this should be taken outside of the judicial system. Don't say that justice was done. What happened here is that the public was protected. Justice is only done if the victim can be asked what is justice for her.
