  • So here we are, the modular I wasn't going to get. Thanks so my lovely family I have now added it to the collection and the first project, of building the actual modular has been interesting. I wanted to chat to you all about it as you know how long I debated this one. There are some surprising findings and I am looking forward to the next stage of the process.
    Rebrickable instructions for the MOC I will be doing: rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-5387...

    It’s such an underrated set! Great story, build, etc. Nice to see people appreciate it. Even if it’s just a piece of it.

    Never thought about the plate color but you’re right a blue or even grey would have made more sense

    You should rebrick it like Brickative‘s Octan Office! 👍🏼

    Great review! Very valid points 🤣. I can’t help being a fan of this build simply because I really like cars! But I totally see where you’re coming from and the alternate build is very cool aswell!

      Me too. I love the speed champions sets and its a perfect place for them

    I had the exact same feeling with that set... I waited until last month to buy it. However I was really surprisingly pleased with the result... it’s a really beautiful set.
    Also... I am glad not to be the only one bothered with the stupid path the minifigs have to take to go floor to floor. This is a common thing in several modulars, I suppose minifigs have a different culture where it’s okay to go through someone else’s flat or shop to get to your floor. Maybe the garage workers just stop everything when someone enters.

      Hahaha, I love how we are now debating mini figure culture XD This comment made me smile. But good to hear I am not the only one who thinks about those things :P

    I agree, the appartment section is beautiful, but not a fan of the garage bit. Excited for the MOC-ed version :)

    I enjoyed your thoughtful review. Its nice to see someone with a different view on sets. We as individuals won't like the same things and I rather enjoyed the reason why you didn't, even if they were quirky. I own, built and like both versions . Interested to see your video on the alternative build

  • @taraelizabethdensley9475

    I finally decided to get this set before it gets retired, haven't finished building it, so it is nice to see what it will look like

    I still have this in the box and haven’t built it yet, I will build it but it doesn’t excite me. Yet.

    I so agree with you. I see a re'moc'n this set into a community hospital...will take some work and parts...ok loads of parts...but i would change up the first floor to match up the brilliant second and third. Keep the garage for an ambulance and set up the first floor as an ER. Thanks for posting. top marks with your review

    I love this style of review. Leave the ultra-detailed “unbiased” reviews to the likes of Jangbricks, who does a great job. But this review holds value to me because it’s about what aspects of the set speak to you (or don’t) on a personal level. I’ve seen enough of your videos that I really value your opinion, and I’ve been hesitant about this set for similar reasons as yours. Eagerly awaiting part 2 of this video, knowing there is a decent chance I buy this set before the end of the year. Thanks!

      @HighTeaToys  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much, that is pretty much my thoughts too, there are so many amazing reviewers out there and they do a marvellous job. I will be finishing the alternative pub build this week so hopefully have some time to film and edit the video on that this weekend so I can release that next week. Really want to chat about it as it is also my first alt build :)

    @RonTaco Před 3 lety +1

    Nice review, it's really helpful. If I had the money I would buy the garage, police station and the bookshop all at once but beggars can't be choosers, so this beggar has to choose :)
    I think the police station and the bookshop are some of the best sets ever, but as the garage will probably be retired this year and the other two will be around for a bit longer, it makes sense to get the garage while it's affordable.
    I wasn't sure about the downtown diner either so I skipped it. Boy did the price go up fast. Well, that's life. You win some you lose some.

    • @HighTeaToys
      @HighTeaToys  Před 3 lety +1

      That sounds a familiar dilemma for a lot of us and I think your reasoning is sound. Yes the Diner really went up ridiculously fast, but I guess the demand was there. To avoid future disappointment definitely get the corner garage first. I assume you already have Assembly Square?

    • @RonTaco
      @RonTaco Před 3 lety +1

      @@HighTeaToys Actually, I don’t have the Assembly Square (yet). I’m aware that it will be retired this year.
      For each set I spend some time considering whether to buy it or not. I download the instructions from the Lego site to walk through step by step. I also watch speed builds and reviews like yours.
      As I can’t ‘catch ‘m all’ I kind of have my personal ranking system: (1) whether a set wows me, (2) whether I find new parts and building techniques I want to study and (3) if I can use the parts in MOCs.
      At the moment I think the Assembly Square doesn’t fully fit the pattern although it does have a lot of nice features.

    @TiesonTrowbridge Před 2 lety +1

    The weird little black thing that you put in the basket hanging from the fuel pump is supposed to be a squeegee.
    'Round these parts, a lot of old service stations have been converted into hipster taco bars - might be fun to do the same thing to Corner Garage.

    • @HighTeaToys
      @HighTeaToys  Před 2 lety

      Ah thank you for enlightening me :)
      I have used this corner garage to the pub alternate build, but if I ever get a second that is definitely a fun option :)

    Nice little review video. At 4:00 thought you had the series 21 centaur on the roof. 🤣
    Maybe it’s intentional to have a sand feel for the base plate. Easier to soak up all the oil from the cars they service. 🤔

    • @HighTeaToys
      @HighTeaToys  Před 3 lety +1

      I had a whole long section talking about how I didn't know if a sand flood is common for some garages somewhere in the world, but I cut most of that out :P You have a point though. Though i recon it would create a lot of mess :P

    I really enjoyed this review! Basically all you said applies to me too: love the above floors, but I just don't care so much about the garage.. The blue car is awesome though! The open stairs is definitelly weird.. haha.. Anyway.. I was hoping you would talk about the Loo, which is realy funny. Well, moving on to the Alt build..... :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

    • @HighTeaToys
      @HighTeaToys  Před 3 lety +1

      So I was going to, but I cut it out during editing as I realised we have a loo in our kitchen. Which sounds weirder then it is obviously it is in a little room, but it made my comment on the random loo building not apply as much.

    99% of people who like modulars will regret it if they didn't get a modular before it retired. Things change and wheter it's that you have more spaceor peer preassure from the rest of the community you will regret not buying them. Doesn't mean you have to build them and have them in your city, you could juwt save it. 🙂
