- All in the Family, "Archie's Weighty Problem." Archie teaches Mike how he should eat food.
Edit What I liked about this show was that both Archie and Mike represented not only two different eras and often two extremes of thinking, but each episode ended with either Archie or Mike become less and less extreme. I really don't believe this show is really about nostalgia or who was "right," it's about growth. - Zábava
I actually felt like I was watching a real family … almost like they became my relatives - the honesty in their acting was unbelievable - best show ever on TV.
I still to this day cannot watch when Mike and Gloria leave for California I ball my eyes out. I watched the series a few years ago on television and instantly became attached to these folks like they were my relatives just as you said
@@tomrichnafsky3089Agree.That episode was quite moving.I also read somewhere where at the end when Archie sat down and cried it was not part of the script. He really was crying.
While in reality, Carrol O'Conner was an unrepentant Liberal.
This show was on well before my time, but as a kid I used to watch the re-runs and I would agree, this was a great show that stood the test of time - even if some of the language would not have!
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ARCHIE BUNKER WAS A CARBON COPY OF MY GRANDFATHER AND IT CAN STILL BRING A TEAR TO MY EYES WATCHING ALL IN THE FAMILY CAUSE HE REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF HIM I LOST MY GRANDFATHER WHEN I WAS 14 AND I AM 56 NOW SO IT HOLDS MEMORIES OF A SPECIAL TIME IN MY LIFE CAUSE HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN MY LIFE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MY PARENTS AND MY BROTHER
These two guys were born to work together! Their talent in acting, just seems so real and natural!! They fall into an elite category!
100%
YEA AND NOW THE "MEATHEAD" ROB REINER IS A LIBERAL CONGRESSMAN GO FIGURE 😂😂😂😂😂😂
BIG RED
How did they make it through the scene without laughing is beyond me.
That a good question my son eats like that
@@reginasmith3180 My dad used to make me stop and chew😂
The way both of these guys could keep a straight face throughout this bit in front of a live audience is unsurpassed by anybody else since. I'm speechless.
I suspect there was more than one take :) you can see them almost cracking up as it is.
@@joe-vz6hx you’re right but that first take is hard to top, you spend the next 10/12 hours stumbling around the set pissed that something through the timing of authenticity off. Now it’s different there 10 cameras filming every angle of this crap on now 🤣🤣🤣. Stuff like All In The Family is like trying to capture lightning in a bottle.
I love this scene
I gotta believe the MTM crew had a hard time making it through scenes with Ted Knight.
How can people give this a thumb down, this show was a classic, one of the funniest sit com's of all time!!!👍👍
Probably liberals.
I eat the same way, this show is hilarious 😂 😄
We need more shows like this on tv today. Lol.
No. It was a liberal show written and produced by liberals with liberal actors taking on social issues from a liberal viewpoint
I was one 9f the best. They could never do a show like this today. That's why so many watch the reruns.
Amazing how Rob Reiner kept a straight face with Archie laying it on... He was the first meathead to coin the phrase... Grew up with All In The Family in the 70's... What a great time to grow up...
Yeslike
I always wondered the same thing. There must ve been a bloopers reel and like 5 takes . cause how did Rob Reiner not crack up with this ? Lol.
At t=3:18 is appears that Archie is holding back a smile. Could be laughing at his own lines or Rob's reaction.
@@michaelsemmijr2095 If I'm not mistaken I think that show was filmed in front of a live audience.
Rob Reiner had a break. He wasn't talented at all.
I love how Archie is always getting words wrong, or pronounces them his way.
It's part of his endearing charm. 😄
Archie was a English teacher before becoming a actor..
Lmao

Coozini and "coronial thrombosis." I couldn't stop laughing!🤣
Carroll O'Connor was just the best TV actor ever!
Oh man, I completely agree! No one has ever come close to his acting chops throughout the series. (No. 2 on my list of comedic actors is Tichina Arnold, who played the mother on Everybody Hates Chris. No one besides O'Connor made me laugh out loud as often as she did).
My thoughts exactly.
@@randyking3057 Amazing, huh Andy? And to think that was done in front of a live studio audience!
Agreed along with the great PETER FALK!
@@carmenvallone9484 funny u say that...just bought two tv box sets all in the family and columbo
Nobody and I mean nobody will ever come close to the genius of Archie Bunker and his wit..God Bless him
It looks like Carol O'Connor was just very close to cracking a smile when he was delivering those lines.
I noticed that, too.
Yes. I love that. at t=3:18 is appears that Archie is holding back a smile. Could be laughing at his own lines or Rob's reaction.
@@jaysonbiggs8979 me too!😊
The running gag of Archie criticizing Mike's strange tendencies is excellent. Ever since I was a kid, I loved (and still often think about) how it annoyed Archie when Mike would put on a sock, then a shoe on one foot and then the same on the other foot. "Don't you know you do a sock and a sock then a shoe and a shoe?!" To this day, it occasionally comes to mind while I'm getting dressed!
Really is odd how some stupid little things like that stick with you.
Like the first joke my dad told me;
What did the Native American (cultural correctness) say when he came home to find his bed wet?...
Whoopee!?
God, it's even stupider spelled out!
Still think of that when I'm putting on my shoe and socks (or is that socks and shoes?)
@@thomasthomas2418 I recently learned that the shoe & sock skit was actually improv. Brilliant, really.
Or when arch taught mike how to get into bed properly lmao
@@johnLennon255 Or that the toilet paper roll has to be set up so it unrolls over the top. Heck, it's too bad that Rob Reiner couldn't have done everything left handed. That would've been the icing on the cake.
What a masterpiece. The closeups were spot on, the dialog excellent.

Hell, this damn PC shit of today would get me banned and blocked! Fuck them is what I say!
A little of the coo-zini. Haha! XD
The clip of Archie teaching Mike how to get into bed might be the funniest moment in TV history. This one is up there too!!
The other is it putting on a sock and a sock and shoe and a shoe.
@@JB-bs1se Yeah, you don't want to have to run out of house in case there is a fire with one sock and one shoe on one foot. Best scene ever.
@@whodidit99 At least you can hop around and stay dry, lol.
This can’t be scripted. Carroll O’Connor seem like he could come up with things off the top of his head and it’s just HILARIOUS!

carroll o'connor was a liberal democrat in real life. shows what a great actor he is
^Liberal identity politics much?!
Who cares about his political views? He was a great actor and played great characters.
@@oilersridersbluejays loved that show
No one could have pulled this off like Carroll O’Connor
Maybe Jackie Gleason?
I truly wish there were programs existed today. We need laugh at each other. In real life the actor
was NOT a bigot.
The program was ahead of it's time. Miss some of the of the good old days!
🤯🥰
and that means what to me
just really the most amazing show - the cast, the content. all of it. so many memories
You can tell when they're trying not to crack a grin themselves. Extraordinary actors.
The out takes must be hilarious!
What a wonderful nutrition lesson from Archie! He looked like he was going to bust out laughing himself. And the Meathead! Great acting and wonderful fun!
Archie's advice priceless
What a priceless series! Simply great. Now we're pretty much stuck with crap on TV.
turn it off like i did April 2007. overpriced propaganda
That's why I only watch old reruns. Today's TV sucks
Yeah. Life today stinks. If only there was a place where someone could post stuff from old TV shows.

Love when Mike looks at Arch like he’s nuts
Archie reminds me of my late grandfather - facial expressions, mannerisms, everything...
Rip
Funny thing is that my grandfather taught me to eat the same way that Archie is showing Mike. To this day, I still eat like that! I’m not joking!
I eat the same way. For example for lunch I had a large salad, whole grain bread and some chicken. I ate a little of each rather than eating one part of meal in sequence.
odessafile75 I eat however I want
Terry Hawkins I think I made a friend out of this whole ordeal.
Put it in a blender mix dump in plate n eat..
Right, your eating
I think my favorite part of this scene was that instead of arguing or proving Archie wrong, Mike just smiles and humors him for once. It was actually kind of heartwarming. Of course, their reactions after the sandwich bit killed me haha.
HOW ABOUT THE SCENE WHERE THEY ARE ALL AT THE DINNER TABLE EATING AND MEATHEAD KEEPS ASKING ARCHIE TO PASS HIM THIS AND THAT,, ARCHIE GETS AGGRAVATED AND PUSHED EVERYTHING TOWARDS HIM SAYING HERE TAKE IT ALL ITS GOING TO WIND UP THERE ANYHOW AND THEN THE MEATHEAD SAYS YOU FORGOT THE BUTTER AND ARCHIE GRABS THE BUTTER DISH TO THROW AT THE MEATHEAD AND EDITH STOPS HIM I LOVE THAT EPISODE BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER THE TITLE OF THE EPISODE, IF ANYONE OUT THERE REMEMBERS IT PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE
All in the Family was the classic of all Classic's !!
A brilliant pairing these two. They played off each other like any great comedic duos of years past. You are missed, Mr. Carroll O'Connor.
Archie missed a perfect opportunity to say all the meat will go to your head and make you a MEATHEAD. xD
Mike find an appartement to stop the misery
I thought it was coming too lol
@@robertchartand3657 by this point, Mike & Gloria had already moved out.
If Mike Stivic was a meathead, and he went to college and Archie never went to college nor did he even finish high school-what does that make him?-a bonehead!.John Guinto
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 😆😆😆😆😆 😂😂😂😂😂 👍👍👍👍👍 😁😁😁😁😁
when they both realize: "i gotta have a sandwich!"
🤣🤣🤣
When I was thinking Archie didn't know anything, his argument brings up the sandwich. He wins.
Meathead hot on his heals 🤣
robby d durham Archie knew a lot , he wasn’t politically correct but there was truth in much , much ,much he was saying and he was genuine, Unlike ☝️ ..some arrogant, know it all wiseacre who tries to come off as smart without facts , observations, wisdom , someone like you probably, a “liberal “. Their will never be another show like this, it's a gem. B4 becoming an actor, O'Conner was actually an English teacher for a short period of time.
and a liberal democrat
@@teresalinton5898 that's what makes his performance in this show so impressive. His character is pretty much the exact opposite of who is in real life
Archie is a true classic. He is the only one I can watch and he makes me laugh so hard I almost pee myself. There will never be another Archie, but he will live forever in our hearts and in the sound of our laughter.
truer words were never spoken.
My all time absolute favorite show! ❤
Nice to see Mike and Archie agreeing on the perfect meal.
As usual, Archie is right. Just like he was with the shoe argument, you never eat all of one thing before you eat anything else, you go around in circles and you have to kinda measure it out so you'll finish every thing on the last go around.
Exactly, everyone know this
Actually, I eat exactly like Mike does here, and it drove my parents up the wall. Still do. But not Thanksgiving: that one I mix all together, and its wonderful. Great scene here.
@@nicholasschroeder3678 A lot of people in Europe still eat like that.
@@nassauguy48 My parents were German😏
Archie made sense sometimes, and we knew it. He occasionally made us realize how dumb Mike was.
I always ate like Archie says and I make sure my last bite is the part of the meal I like the best. Usually the meat.
I can remember watching this episode live.
greatest tv show ever...second to none..
I love this show. I wish it was still on tv.
the zoomers/millennials would all have massive strokes at once. it sounds nice actually.
That little face spasm Archie makes at 3:19 talking about the hero sandwich while he's on a diet is just pure comedic genius! Its almost like the eye twitch Martin Sheen makes on the one Episode of the West Wing when he throws the anti gay radio talk show host out of the White House.
My mom and I watched reruns every day for years when I was a kid. She had a theory that Archie was never to be shown eating. He'd sit down to the table, but something would always happen and he'd jump up without ever taking a bite. This is a classic example.
3:15 can't blame Carol O'Connor for nearly cracking there ... this was hysterical.
I think Rob nearly laughed too... I couldn't tell if it was meant for Mike's character or if it was Rob breaking character
The scariest thing about this is that Archie really believes what he is saying. He has a similiar theory with the sock and sock then a shoe and a shoe lol
Are you the type that puts on a sock, shoe, sock, shoe? That is nothing but pure, old fashioned communism!
Somehow, I blended in Sheriff Buford T Justice-
That was hysterical too! Also when he teaches Mike how to get into bed. Remember how he says to leave a flap in case you pass gas in bed and you can fan it with the flap? LOL!
@@retroguy9494 I forgot that one! Maybe Mike was a “Dutch Oven” sicko, ha, ha
that was such brilliant script writing & another reason why that show is such a classic.
@@rumrnr78 LOL! 🤣
When he was explaining where the food goes, just gold! I watched this show faithfully when it originally aired but don't recall this particular conversation.
I loved the part later when Archie Stormed out of The House saying where he is going to eat.
They both looked like they were going to break at any moment lol
This comedy bit reminded me of the episode when he teaches Mike how to put his shoes and socks on. 🤣
Archie -A sock and a sock, a shoe and a shoe, if I remember correctly.
Meathead: a sock and a shoe, a sock and a shoe
@@sylviaisgod6947 Yup! Lol
I heard that scene was totally off the cuff!
The facial expressions of contempt and disbelief are everything. 😂
What makes this scene so funny is when the camera zooms in on their faces… You can tell they are trying so hard not to crack up, laughing!😂😂😂😂
I admire Mike’s patience, lol
TV watching used to be so good. Spent many a lonely hours watching these great shows and having a good laugh.
I loved the Jeffersons. George was Archie's black twin, and was hysterically funny. His facial expressions and comebacks had me doubled over. They were both comic geniuses! George's interactions with Florence were gold!
I, myself, being of Mexican heritage, i love when Archie said, " Do you know why them Mexicanos are good fighters in the ring? Its for being brought up 12 to a family. They have to fight over the one bowl of refried beans!"
The episode when Archie first meets Mike. An absolute classic!
But the white Libtards insist that you should be offended by this
Mexicans are proof Native Americans mated with Buffalo.
I love the audience’s reaction when Archie mentions a hero sandwich.
Regardless of how people want to eat or put on their socks and shoes Archie was spot-on about the bed flap!
I make my bed the same way in case I have an attack of gastriasis.

Archie truly understood nutrition.. The hero really is the perfect food. 😊
I agree with you. The real "message" that the show delivered (whatever Norman Lear thought he was saying) is that human beings grow toward each other in love, however they start out.
Exactly right - sad to me how many people cannot perceive that message/theme
Once a meathead STILL A MEATHEAD

@@jackieaumille254 Why did you use like 15 ellipses? What are you, dead above the neck or something?
The way Archie says TOYKIE 😂
I think Carroll O'Connor picked up that style from Leo Gorcey, the old Bowery Boys, he always used to take words and twist them around like that
Alot of older folks talk like that. Just the way it was
He also mixed a little Jackie Gleason into his act, he was fond of the Honeymooners
There was a stand up named Norm Crosby who always getting words wrong.
Tom g: an example: he always said a perpendicular situation when he meant a peculiar(or particular) situation.
I loved the dynamic between Archie and Mike!
I watched this show as a kid and now I’m as old as Archie is here. WTF !!
I know the feeling. It happened too fast!
omg
what hapened
Shoulda said, "When ya eat the meat all separate like, then it goes to your head. That's the reason you became a meathead. The cure for bein a meathead is mixin things up."
Best comedy of all time hands down , and I dont care what anybody says, I must have seen every episode at least thirty times and I never get tired of it,
Me either.
Ditto, and the Jeffersons too!
I forgot just how good O'Connor really was.
I just came home for lunch with what we Rhode Islanders call a grinder (an Italian hero/sub sandwich). I took a couple of bites and remembered this scene. The look on Mike's face - he was starting to salivate over Archie's sandwich description.
There is something very “Seinfeld” about this exchange between Archie and Mike. Just 2 guys having a conversation about eating technique. It reminds me of one of those many trivial discussions Jerry and George would have at the coffee shop. It just shows how AITF was way ahead of it’s time.
Keen observation now that you mention it. I can definitely see the similarities.
Socrates and Aristotle also used to discuss food and how to eat it. That discussion's been going on for about 2300 years now. At least. Who knows, maybe someone was discussing how to eat food with his friend or son in law even before Socrates' time too.
I watched the reruns as a kid. I miss that show so much. What a gem! Nothing like that on tv today.
Archie's lectures to Mike about how he does things are great. The best one was when Archie had a problem with the way Mike put his shoes on.
Once a meathead always a meathead
2021 needs these comedys they were the greatest!!!
Archie also admonished him once for putting mustard on his pretzel.
I have always been a "mixture" man like my grandpa. When I went to holidays at my Wife's family everyone talked bout how I put down mashed potatoes, then veggies on top of that, some meat and then gravy overall. My Father in law who I loved like the father I never had called me a "trough eater". One of my nieces ate like me. "We should send you two out to the pig pens, and feed to from a bucket" (we live in farm country). Now it was all tongue in cheek but that scene always brings me back to that. I actually had the "a sock and a sock and a shoe and a shoe argument with my older brother who critiqued EVERYTHING I did. LOL.
Imagine my glee and vindication when KFC came out with their "famous bowls" We were at the in-laws again when a commercial for those came on TV. "See Ma? There must be others who enjoy eating like I do". "Well," she said, "it just goes to show what kind of people eat there". (wink) She Loved KFC. In fact the last time my wife and I saw her we brought a bucket and had lunch.
All that is to illustrate how REAL these characters and situations were, and why so many people saw themselves in these wonderful characters,
I love when Archie teaches Mike to do things. Like how to put on shoes and socks, how to get in to bed, how to rat. To me, it proves that Archie really loves Mike.😂❤😂
I'm still impressed by the fact they kept a straight face through that entire scene 🤣🤣🤣
Those two argue about (literally) everything
In one episode, something was troubling Archie. He said it was like an albacore around his neck.
lol… not a albatross….
This was the best show ever! Everyone laughed on both sides… no one stopped speaking to you… the writers were geniuses in their writing! We don’t have this today sadly, everyone gets so upset!
the close-ups on their faces back and forth is like something out of a Sergio Leone Western.
Now this man was as funny as it gets they'll never be another funny man like this Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker hands down was the White Collar man bellyache about everything but in the long run the fans love them to death Carroll O'Connor done after all in the family to me he'll always be Archie Bunker rest in peace Carroll O'Connor
Archie worked on a loading dock and drove a cab. Blue collar.
My father was just like this. Imagine some one instructing a grown man on how he should eat his meal! I can still hear his tender words- “ That ain’t the way you do that”!!!!
After all dis, let's get some quizini and toikey - Den gimme a beah, HUH! I just loved watching Archie and Mike and their deep discussions
archie: Quizini Mike: Zuchini Archie: Whatever
Some foods are meant to be mixed all together.
The quizini could all rush to a foot!
The meathead doesn't appreciate Archie as the fountain of knowledge that he is.
I remember when Archie taught meathead how to put on his shoes.
I'd take this over any new comedy!
The Coozini (zucchini) can all rush to your foot. LOL!
Best show ever. If anything could make me laugh. Those were days.
Don't forget Sanford & Son!!!! :)

I usually mix all my food up on my plate then eat it. Lol 😂. Especially my eggs, bacon, grits, hash browns, & biscuits/bread. YUMMY!!!
My wife also eats the way mike eats to the point were nothing on her plate touches anything.
I have a cousin that does the same thing, lol.
My dad & Archie were 1 of the same. Awesome show. Today sucks.
Mike’s blank state is gold.
The sock and sock and the shoe and the shoe is also a gem.
