      I probably would have bought one when I was 12. But once you learn how to properly sharpen an edge a pull through is not even an option

    I recieved mine yesterday. The only problem I found was that the plastic threads on the sharp n spark are a bit weak. First thing I did when I got mine was strike some sparks, and I broke the threads that hold the magnesium rod. Maybe I was too agressive with it! Can easily be fixed with super glue tho, so no worries there. However! The sharpener is fantastic! The V notch is so much more agressive than the ones you will find on any other sharpener, it helped me put an edge on an old knife that I couldn't get one on with anything else. The straight edge does take a bit of learning, but I'm getting it down. So far, I'm really satisfied with the purchase. Cheers!

      For the life of me I can’t figure out why anybody would press so hard on the feral rod that they actually break the threads off. In the first place why in gods name wouldn’t you just put your finger under the bar and add a tiny bit of support. Thank you for your purchase but this makes absolutely no sense to me.

    I use this sharpener but only on my work knives. The better quality knives in my collection will never see the red monster. I say monster in a loving way, at work to bring an edge back into cutting shape fast I like it, it’s fast but it eventually runes the look of the knife since my work knives are pretty much disposable I don’t care. When fishing I have a $10 fillet knife that has to be razor sharp that’s where this sharpener excels. If you looking for a beautiful mirror finish on a show knife there are better options

  • @EDCandLace
    @EDCandLace Před rokem +10

    I've sharpened knives with harder knives. There is no doubt with the right technique that a 90 degree piece of TC brushing against the apex at a consistent angle will sharpen a knife. The v cutters will form the bevel to that angle stripping steel off the blade. As a long time free hand professional sharpener that really is interested in seeing my edges under a micro scope and that is how all my edges are checked before leaving to the customer. I would really be interested in seeing the edge on the knife you just sharpened at 240x and 500. I would also be very curious to see card board and a twisted rope cutting done on a simple steel then going back to paper slicing, just a few cuts of each to verify that what's cutting the paper isn't just a fragile wire edge. Not saying that's what's happening but logic says it's a high possibility. Getting a knife a knife hair whittling sharp while having a wire edge that feels stupid sharp but yet the wire edge crushes and or rolls over after just a few cuts on a tougher cutting medium. Again not saying anything negative about this product please don't take it that way I'm just really curious as I'm someone that is very much deeply invested in sharpening and I very much love doing it.

      I missed this post. Good post by the way. First I will say, I never try to make a knife-- hair whittling sharp. Because, I can;t and the other reason is--- I have no use for that kind of edge. It is worthless in the real world, of EDC. My edges do hold up because I take the wire edge off ( with the same sharpener ) before I finish with the blade. Thank you.

    I am a old man half blind and drunk on vodka and 211 most of the time and I got all 400 of my knifes very sharp with this thing yes it takes time to learn the system you do not just open it and it works you may have to use some skill and it dose take time to learn but once you get it down you will be very happy you learned this skill you will be able to sharpen a knife anytime anyplace and you will be a very happy person like me it took me over 400 knives to get good at it you will get good at it if you keep at it you will never pay anyone to sharpen a knife again ever and all your friend and family will have sharp knives. I love my sharpens best it is a wonderful tool. I do not think I would use it on 300 500 dollar and over knives but everything else is fair game. Semper Fi.

    This sharpener really does not work. You can use it to destroy your blades with it, like the most other pull threw sharpener do.
    Better use a stone for sharpening your knives or use an electric belt or wheel sharpener if the manual process takes to much time.

    will these sharpeners really sharpen hard high carbon steel?

    • @DroneShotFPV
      @DroneShotFPV Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, it's tungsten carbide, it works on any knife steel. You just have to be "good" at it, and learn the proper technique. My preference for sustained edges are Japanese Whetstones, but quick sharpens of certain kitchen knives, or field sharpening, I use these. It's more of a preference thing with the whetstones, and I find the art of hand sharpening to be very soothing / cathartic..

      That’s because the teacher who’s teaching you isn’t doing good at all. It is the most easiest way to sharpen a knife but in the long run you won’t have a knife to sharpen anymore because these pull sharpeners takes off way more metal than it needs to.

    I’d try it. I have a hard time seeing it as the last sharpener I’ll ever need, but it looks like a handy compliment to my sharpening setup.
    The thing is, there is no sharpener (however nice, simple and/or intuitive) that WON’T destroy your knife if you use it wrong.
    So the real question is, does this design lend itself to simple, effective use? I don’t know. But I have a feeling I could make it work.
