    Well, you forgot to mention that Honda actually designed the Vtec system for bike engines and later adapted it to the car engines.
    Also a little fun fact:
    The bike vetc system is called Hyper Vtec ;D.

      Mandernach Luca
      - Almost correct, the original design introduced in the 1983 CBR400F was called REV (Revolution-Modulated Valve Control). This was later refined into the DOHC VTEC for automobiles introduced in 1989. The motorcycle Hyper VTEC wasn't introduced until 1999 in the CB400 Super Four.

      I got VFR800vtec. moment when VTEC do the job is similar as someone would reduce a gear or maybe two. noice of engine is changing as well. I got this bike since well over 13 years and I'm not even thinking about changing it for any other model. great sport tourer. longest trip I've done in one day was from Plitvica to Szczecin (approx 1300km)

    • @HomebrewSubaru
      @HomebrewSubaru Před 6 lety +3

      hiszpan25 That’s what I wanted to hear, VTEC on motorcycle is like dropping a gear, confirmed. 1300km is one big ride, that’s a long trip in a car.

    Rode one today and i love it, CB400 Revo was so smooth and the power delivery was linier with no spikes even when vtec kicks in it doesnt throw you off the bike, but when you change down you have to be careful as it jolts you when vtec shuts down.

    I've been deep into the valvetrain of my '02 vfr, it doesn't have VVA, just switching bucket tappets actuating one intake and one exhaust valve diagonally apart from each other. When oil fills an annular groove around the bucket tappet, it slides a locking pin into engagement with the valve tip.

    I own a VFR800 and have to say that the V4 is the most addictive power plant ever!
    This engine produces fantastic torque at low revs, more than my prev 1150cc boxer before cracking from two valve to 4 at around 6800rpm - the mill will then pull hard right through to 12000rpm.
    I've fitted a pipe and gone two teeth up on the rear sprocket and find that the bike will travel from 0-100km in around 3.6 seconds which is plenty fast enough for any situation.
    In the past, I've changed bike's nearly every year to two years but I just can't let go of this bike.
    Mine is a 2003, the older the better as the vtec system is more aggressive/violent in it's activation ☺

  • @moonkef
    @moonkef Před 6 lety

    Most 4 cyl 600cc supersport bikes rev higher than 12,000. 12,0000 rpm is roughly the redline for sports touring motorcycles with large displacement motors like 1100cc or more (and they are the 5 series of the motorcycle world). 12k is obviously high in car terms but is only mildly hot lets say for 4cyl sports/super bikes/motorcycles. And thats all without v-tec. Great vid! Didnt know about the little 400/4 Honda!

    First off let me say that I find your videos very entertaining and after I finish watching them I always feel as though I've learned something because they're very informative. However one little piece of constructive criticism perhaps you should look into a text to speech program that could possibly read off what you wanted to say because although you were enthusiastic and knowledgeable it's very difficult to understand you because your accent is so thick that your English becomes almost unrecognizable at times. I'm not trying to be disrespectful nor am I trying to be mean I'm just offering a piece of criticism. Once again great videos I thoroughly enjoyed them

    You clearly don't know what you're talking about, Honda's v Tec isn't variable valve timing at all, it's a 16 valve engine that runs on 8 valves at low rpm, the other 8 valves are activated at around 5500 rpm by oil pressure. The cam timing is fixed in fact the earlier vfr pre v Tec engine with gear driven cam shafts was Honda's work of genius.

      sideways action VTEC stand for- variable valve timing technology.😂 In honda motorcycle engine 2valves per cylinder activated at low rpm. At 6,250rpm vtec kicks in allowing 4valves per cylinder

    • @dllTheLoneReaderllb
      @dllTheLoneReaderllb Před 6 lety

      my 2014 model has it, yes, afaik the 8th gens all have it. as far as maintenance... it's a little extra but it's really not that much harder than any other dohc 4 valve/cylinder engine. i would say the main thing that really gets you is the fact that it's a v4. love the engine, and i gotta say they packed it into the chassis really well, but damn is it annoying to work on. two engine banks means four total camshafts you're dealing with, two timing belts, two tensioners, etc, and if like me you lack the equipment to drop the engine... let's just say getting to the heads is an adventure and leave it at that. so yeah, the 8th gen vfrs are a bit of a pain to work on, but it's more the way the bike is constructed and packaged than anything caused by the addition of vtec

    • @wolfg.1867

      Eliran B google it. Everyone who has gotten early valve checks says they were all in spec and it was a waste of money. Most people recommend the valve check at 60k and even those that have done that have said they were in spec and it was a waste.

      In therms of pollution, the 2006 cb (carburator) emitted 856 Co2 gr/km. Nowadays uses pgm system and euro 4 allows less than 1140 Co2 gr/km...
      By the way, at importation pages are sold since ¥300.000 (2300€) or less + taxes of transport and matriculation 😉
