I saw Distant World's down in London a few years ago and then more recently with the FF7 Remake Orchestra. If you're a final fantasy fan and you're thinking about going then do it you will not regret it. Such an amazing emotional experience.

I regret not going, even though it is only due to the 'rona. Europe only has concerts in the middle of winter, great season in a pandemic.

  • @TheRandomGuyTheFarNoGameCat

I adore Eric as a person. My sister and I got to meet him. He was so invested and present in our conversation.
But my favourite memory, seeing him go have a night on the town with our local orchestra.
    Truly a wonderful human being.
Edit: My sister and I LOST OUR DANG MINDS when he did the slide whistle Solo!!!

The last Distant Worlds concert i went to, i was real early, one of the first people waiting for the concert venue to open, so i could get first dibs on soundtracks at the booth.
While waiting, Mr. Uematsu walks by us. Me and the few others there thank him for his work, and he seemed so happy and waved back to us.

I attended Distant Worlds in London a couple of years ago - I saw Susan Calloway (Dragonsong - FFXIV) and Rikki (Suteki da Ne - FFX) perform, and heard Dancing Mad on the organ in the Royal Albert Hall.
It was quite the experience. I am planning to go again and I encourage everyone that is on the fence about it to go and enjoy.
Thank you for the video, Alex. I really enjoyed it!

I had the pleasure of catching Distant Worlds on the rare occassion they visited Argentina and it blew my mind! I remember when it was time for One Winged Angel, Arnie turned to the audience and told us that they couldn't fit a choir for this one but they would like us (the audience) to sing along to the iconic "Sephiroth!" part. Little did he know, we sang the WHOLE thing! And he even turned mid-performance to "conduct" us as if we were part of the orchestra. Truly a magical evening. I hope I get to see A New World someday too, sounds like a grand time!

My most memorable distant worlds exp. was Valla ala Flamenco from FF9. We were lucky to have a local guitarist who brought my favorite FF song alive before my eyes. The back and forth between the guitar and the rest of the orchestra was magical.

Eric's such a nice guy. Used to work for him a few years back for ANW and I gotta say he and their crew legitimately care about the Final Fantasy music and quality of the performances. They're the best ppl I could think of to be doing Final Fantasy music live.

  • @WatashiMachineFullCycle

Saw distant worlds all the way back in either 2011 or 2012 in Atlanta GA and it is still one of my most precious memories of that time. That choir man... I held it together until they started going all out in Fisherman's Horizon, and I just broke down over how beautiful it was

I went to a Distant World here in my country (argentina) a long time ago, and i cried when i heard the opera from FF6. It was an amazing experience that is not going to happen again, probably. I couldn't get my hand in the premium ticked and i couldnt get my disk of the FF4 ost signed and that will haunt me forever.

I've had the luck, and pleasure to see Arnie Roth conduct three Play! concerts as well as two Distant Worlds in stockholm, and I think I cried each time. First probably being when they moved into Frogs theme in the Chrono Trigger/Cross section. It's magic, pure and simple.

  • @Miingno
    @Miingno Před 2 lety +1

Thank you two very much for this interview!
Been to London a few times for Distant Worlds where I did have the pleasure to hear Eric Roth's narration during the opera. It added so much to the understanding of the piece.
To be honest, I didn't like the "Opera ~ Maria and Draco" when I heard it first on the recording. Then in London, when they announced it I was like "oh no.. almost 20 minutes of opera... oh well, not every piece tonight will be nice I guess..." Oh boy was I wrong. The live performance and the narration changed everything and I didn't want it to ever stop!
Also went to Germany for the A New World and loved every second of it as well! It was more intimate with only.. I think 200 people? No amps, just pure sound. Beautiful "unplugged", raw, cute in a sense but still powerful and emotional.
Listening to the recordings is one thing but live it's a very unique and different experience.
Even if you have never played a FINAL FANTASY game, the music is phenomenal and if you like "soundtracks" (movie soundtracks, game soundtracks, etc.) you will like these concerts.
And last but not least, hey CZcams! Why did you not inform me about this video even though I have the bell activated D: Going to untick and tick again. Maybe that will help~

If you loved Distant Worlds, I would like to suggest anyone check out Final Symphony (it's found in Spotify) . The approach of the music through a more traditional symphonic approach, which is rarely done with video game arrangements. One of the standouts is the entire retelling of FF7 using the motifs and themes of the game in chronological order through 3 symphonic poems. It's awesome.

I'm a huge fan of FF and Distant Worlds. My husband and I have traveled near and far to see them live, and I can't express the wonderful range of emotions a fan of the games and orchestra experiences at these performances. I caught them in Florida with a friend, and my husband and I have seen them in Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Just breath-taking each time. The FFVII Remake orchestra, personally, felt a bit weaker than the original Distant Worlds- but it's still great.
Best performance was the anniversary of FFVI we saw in Chicago. My husband and I adore the VI soundtrack. That night, they had the choir and full organ... Oh my heavens. It was such a cool trip feeling the deep vibrations of the organ in Dancing Mad. That night was magical, and it was made even more so when we finally got to meet Uematsu-San. He is beyond humble, and always very gracious to his fans.
At one Naka-Kon in KC, we also got the chance to see A New World, OPENWORLD, and the Black Mages. Just so good overall! FFXII is one of the favorites in the series, and A New World played Eruyt Village when we went. My heart was so happy ♥
If you haven't gone to Distant Worlds, save up for the next tour. You won't regret it.

Hey I also especially loved the Fight with Seymour arrangement on the New World album, groovy strings there! The day after I made travel plans in mid-January, I got an ad for A New World in my area... with a conflicting tour date :(
Maybe next time... tho at least I got tickets for Distant Worlds in April. I remember Eric's father Arnie conducting at "Play! A Videogame Symphony" back in 2007-ish and was super moved by the Chrono arrangement. Super excited for that and whenever Mr Roth's FF7R Orchestra comes around again (I had tickets for that last year but they canceled due to pandemic)

I've yet to have a chance to catch A Distant Worlds. I had completely forgot about A New World. I'd love to catch both! Really enjoyed this interview!
Speaking of emotions, one of the three or four shows of Video Games Live I got to see... Jillian Aversa was present and sang for Aria di Mezzo Carattere! I cried. I also realized then, how much I would have loved to see FF6 story line presented as an opera. It would work SO well! For me, few games have music that touches me like FF6. So many tracks hit so hard. Amazing game, amazing art, amazing music!

As most of the coments from the vid, I've also been in a Distant Wolrd concert and it was a great experience. 10/10 would recommend.

I just recently went to the FF7 Remake Orchestra in Boston a few weeks ago. Man, same thing for me when they did the FF7 Prelude I was crying. It was so magical and absolutely memorable as my first gaming orchestra concert. It was hilarious having the last 2 songs be Aerith's Theme and One Winged Angel. LIKE, THAT'S HORRIFYING PLACEMENT XD

Since you love Final Fantasy music and stuff, any chance you could listen and do something on The Black Mages? It was a band that Square used to have back when nobuo uematsu was still with them. They have a huge list of amazing songs. I think you will really enjoy the acoustic guitar in Vamo Alla Flamenco

While I've been to Distant Worlds a number of times, I missed A New World because the pandemic cancelled the performance I was going to attend. I look forward to the day they can perform it nearby. Edit: Looks like they'll be back here next year. Already making plans.
