    This game was so good. Actually still is. Why don't they make things like this anymore? Games like this and X-Wing and TIE fighter series were the golden age.

    This goes to show, canonically, that klingons, relied on superior firepower and positioning, the latter of which is made irrelevant on stafleet's ability to fire in any direction.

    BoPs annoy me. They were meant to be Romulan ships, but a series of behind the scenes issue in Star Trek III left us with a Romulan "Klingon" ship. Then, due to the extortionate cost of new ship models, it became the default Klingon ship for 20 years and somehow there are multiple different sizes and classes of the things which all magically look exactly the same. The ST III BoP was a very small ship and not even close to a match for a Miranda, barring the element of surprise, but here we are all these years later still stuck with the things.

      Same, man. Easily the most annoying inconsistent ship in Star Trek canon. Plus the kind of shielding and hull strength BoPs are magically endowed with is ridiculous. It's basically an oversized starfighter with maybe a dozen crew. I'm fine with weapons, it's supposed to be a glass cannon kind of ship, an ambush-predator, a fast, agile scout, but geeezus tone down on the staying power. If I ever learn to mod BC, i'd cut the hull rating by 2/3rds on those things, and shield strength by half. I'd make the shields recharge faster, so it's more viable for cloak-ambush hit and run tactics, but NOT in a straight fight.
      And against a Miranda, a 200+ crew light cruiser (light battlecruiser at the time of it's introduction, the thing EASILY outgunned a Connie), it should stand NO chance. Period. Maybe from ambush, and with some luck, but NOT in a straight slugging match.

      I agree to a point. I like the retcon that Fasa did in the Star Trek Starship Tactical Simulation game where in the Klingons acquired the basic BOP design from the Romulan in return for more advanced warp engine technology. Also, it is entirely feasible that the Klingons would keep using a tried and true spaceframe and make various sizes of it for different roles. I had a similar argument years ago with one Brad Torgersen who disliked almost all UFP ships in the Fasa game using the same saucer and nacelle designs just "out of scale" in his opinion. Obviously the same basic shape could be scaled to different ships for different roles. For example, you have two 8 cylinder internal combustion engines. One is normal car size, say 4.0 liter. The other is a scale model 1/16th in scale. You're not going to out the model in your car, but the engines are otherwise identical and function on the same principle. It's not even that much of a stretch to believe the hard headed and tradtion minded Klingons would do such a thing with what we all agree is a pretty cool design. Also, the Romulans still use the BOP design in the Fasa lore and even hold a grudge against the Klingons for getting so much value out of their technology trade. The Klingons got cloaking tech, the BOP design specs and plasma weapon tech in return for basic warp engine tech and some old (D7/K'tinga) ship design specs.

      I agree, I would prefer the Bop to weaker than shown here but given how sparse the Klingon fleet is, the staple of the Klingon fleet would be useless if I made it any weaker. Plus it wouldn't be fun to play against the Klingons if their most common ship exploded in a few hits

      @@adamlee2111 I mean you could put mod ships in. I'm sure there's a K'vort somewhere, or one of those Starfleet Command 3 ships like the Fek'hlar or something. And a refitted K'tinga to fill the light-cruiser niche. You could make up a full ladder of Klingon ships with mods.
      But the BoP is just too powerful for what it is. It needs nerfing. Big time.

      I love the klingon and romulan bird of prey. I love how the romulans and klingons in the past cooperated in sharing technology like with the D7. I do think they should go back to the orginial concept of the romulan bird of prey.

    Love this matchup! Personally I think a spread of 4-6 photon torpedos should be enough to destroy a BoP but that might not make for the best gameplay

    • @adamlee2111
      @adamlee2111  Před měsícem

      Thank you! Yes you're right 4-6 torpedoes would be about right but the gameplay would be poor and balancing the ships properly would be a nightmare!

    This fight is bollocks, How is it surviving that much firepower? the Phaser cannons on the Miranda alone should have cut through it. Not to mention how many damn photon torpedoes it tanked??
    someone needs to go back to programming these,. There is no way a BoP can tank like a Connie .

    • @adamlee2111
      @adamlee2111  Před měsícem +1

      I agree believe it or not 😂 In my head cannon the Bird of Prey is weaker than a Miranda but for gameplay purposes I've made them evenly matched. The Miranda is right at the low end of Starfleet ship strengths, if I placed the Bop lower than a Miranda it would be virtually useless. For better or worse, the shows portrays the Bop as the staple of the Klingon Fleet so I've had to make it a little stronger than I would prefer
      The shield/weapon balance is a little off though: I will reduce its shields/hull and boost its disruptors a bit

    I really don't get it in DS9 war against the dominion and cardassian the miranda was no match for a galor with all the firepower the miranda has I find that hard to believe.

    • @adamlee2111
      @adamlee2111  Před měsícem +1

      The Galor was in a different weight class. About 3 times the mass and nearly double the length. That's a big gap to overcome, especially for such an old ship
