Sorry about the late night notification bell gang! I'm a part of this accountability group and my deadline to upload is at 11:59:59 đ
What a great way to use the chair! I bet it really helps with the core muscles! I don't have a fancy chair, but I will have to try this tomorrow and see if I can do this. Do you know any wheelchair makers in Western Washington?
Please could you share your chair type info? I have a chair that isn't snug and looks more like a hospital one.
..it's too big and can't fit in my small kitchen without grazed knuckles. I've been planning on replacing it so I'd like to replace it with one I know I can exercise with, hence the question.
@@jennifergris6275 I had the same problem with the 18" wheelchair they gave me at the hospital. Now I have a snug 16" chair. Much better, about $170 on Amazon
@@nogiedeville1623 Ah yes! Thank you - ijve just looked and mine is an 18" too. I have h-EDS and am not very knowledgeable about chairs
I did the same mistake when I got bedridden. I didn't want to get a wheelchair and now after 10 years getting it, but unable to transfer easily. Don't anyone ever think wrong about getting a wheelchair. The more you delay it, the more you become dependent. Get in and turn the impossible to possible. Am on this journey to get independent. Thanks to you for posting such inspiring videos.
OMG I am so glad to read these messages! After two years mostly in a wheelchair (I am able to walk a few steps) I finally understood I have to work WITH the wheelchair. And open myself up for an electric support for outsides so that I am able to leave the apartment by myself. Finally - after two years!
great vid, I'm getting my first chair really soon and your channel has taught me so much about wheelchairs its the reason why I'm finally making the decision of getting a wheelchair as I'm no longer feeling like I'm giving in, but instead fighting even harder.
i was in the same spot 2 years ago, now i love my wheelchair! keep watching his videos u will learn a lot
Keep with it buddy!! I had resentment toward my chair at first. But the chair is what saved me. Now it's my window to the world!!
I got my wheelchair in March 2021, it has given me back freedom which I had lost for years. It has been life changing for me. My house is no longer a prison with a bed, kitchen, bathroom, and recliner⊠I can shop independently, travel, even took my son on two camping trips over the summer.
This is very clever, great rehabilitation of the nervous system especially if you have been sitting stagnant for so long. Very cool.
I was doing this, kinda. I don't have a torso control, T5. I broke my handcycle last year so I began "running" with my wheelchair. Did rotation moves with hands. Realy great exercise. It helps to regain some torso control. Also a great exercise for shoulder joints.
It is pleasant even when you have full body control. :) I just need to be careful to not injure myself while doing this.
I guess this video is for incomplete spinal injured people, complete injured people cannot do this. We can't walk either
@@Wheelchair-bear I'm complete and I do it! đđ
@@Cosmicsurfpro At what level?
@@Wheelchair-bear I'm T5 complete. With huge spasticity :)
I have to give a huge thank you to you and your videos, I dont have a spinal cord injury but I do have a chronic illness that for me effects my ability to walk.everyone around me and even my rehabilitation doctors look at a wheelchair as an illness, rather then a mobility device that gives me freedom. I can only walk a few steps so they dont even think I need a wheelchair! But for me the wheelchair has given be freedom to be able to leave my house and having your videos feels like at least one person has my back and understands it. Btw I have an extremely heavy wheelchair which really sucks
đđ€đœ Awesome!! I do that messing around when Iâm out with friends pretending Iâm running. Who knew it was a hidden hack lol.
Thank you!!!! I have avoided a wheelchair for years when it would have been easier to just give up. (L1-L5 injury only moderate sensation below the waist). As I age I am seeing a decline, but much slower than was expected because I am staying as active as I can tolerate. Thank you again for the inspiration.
Youâre BACK!!!! Missed you!!!! Hope all is well!!!! đđœ
I can't do any torso rotation movements because of the damage I've sustained.
I honestly also quit walking as much as possible because there's so much more wrong with my body than just the 3 incomplete SCIs that makes walking or even standing absolute agony.
I'm now putting all the time that I used to spend getting back on or staying on my feet into re-learning playing bass.
I used to play before my SCIs but both damage at C4-7 and all the time spend focusing on my legs caused me to abandon the bass. Now it's time to work on my hands again an playing bass both strengthens the hands as well as works them to improve overal functionality.
Ask a quad what they would pick hand or leg function and hand function always wins.
Be careful of the T.I light chair.... my front wheel broke off completely and I broke my elbow, my femur and my tailbone in a fall. I have a bone disease called osteo-genesis-imperfecta so even know the fall was small it still broke a few bones. Looking for a better chair now that Iâm almost healed all the way.
you likely just need a little deeper dump, i have a tilite areo t and it is wonderful, its my second tlite i have never had any issues with them what so ever
id suggest based on what you said, a little bit deeper dump, and possibly even a slightly deeper seat depth so you are more '' in'' the chair
Never had any issue with my TiLite. My next chair will 100% be a TiLite.
@@SnowySpiritRuby Same here , I looove my tilite, I have a tilite and a ki mobility rogue, I have it in a lower seat so wheels are higher and itâs my athletic work out chair, and when it comes time for new ones, Iâll be getting another tilite and a rogue
This is proof of what you can learn and improve by simply experimenting. That is by far the biggest lesson i've learned from all of your videos Richard. Thanks man! Such a big influence on me...
Orders for my custom chair going through this week. Service dog phone interview on Feb 2nd, I'm about to be back up and going again, will definitely try this Thank you
This has given me the push I needed to try something different. I've struggled hugely to access PT services at times, I don't think my chair is capable of these types of moves! But I'm going to see what it can do. THANK YOU! đ
fun fact, what you described here is also how i was taught to ride a unicycle, getting the arms/shoulders to help move the hips to help maneuver the uni. very cool to see! :-)
I am 10 months post c4 incomplete sci. I finally accepted a wheelchair and had my evaluation last week. Watching you has made me look at it differently and I appreciate you and all your hard work!
As soon as this video was done and I pushed myself as hard as I could and tried the running one and it actually works really enjoyed it thank you.
Keep liking your balance of acceptance and rehabilitation. Emotions especially oF others forces binary thinking on this constantly.
I do this often using the road while walking my dog.. In the mall.. It's a great core workout, cardio workout. good stuff!
You did an excellent job talking while being out of breath. I can hardly talk and walk đ
AWESOME! Great vid! I've been pushing in my chair everyday gaining strength. When I get stronger, I'll be doing some of this too!
Hey Richard! Pleasantly surprised at this video! Didn't get my notification, good thing I check for new vids every day! Rock on dude!
Iâm an ambulatory user (Iâve got a congenital, progressive neurological condition that has been making mobility harder and harder for me as I get older, and I havenât even begun to really age yet. Iâm not yet 24 and standing and walking are very painful even with frequent PT and a few rehab programs under my belt) whoâs 6 month mark in the chair will be in March. Iâm ridiculously proud of how much stronger Iâve gotten and how much easier pushing my chair is now compared to in the beginning, but I still get tired more easily than Iâd like. Iâm very much looking forward to the day when I feel like I can tackle harder terrain and longer distances without worrying about my fatigue as much. This stuff looks super fun though and Iâm definitely going to give it a try. I hope youâre enjoying Arizona, I lived down in Tucson for two years and I loved it.
Great video! Super inspirational and educational
Not only will this help with potentially walking, I can also see it being extremely good for developing core strength and generally fitness.
I didn't know you moved to Arizona.
It looks like Phoenix - but I might be wrong.
Excided that you live so much closer to where I am at (NV).
Never thought of a wheel chair like that but that kind of blows my mindb cause I def could see this perspective.. especially at the end when you simulated running
You give me hope my friend. May God Bless you. I was told I have a 2 yr window to regain function from nerve damage, and if it didn't happen in 2 yrs it probably wouldn't. Met a guy who said his came back after 7 yrs, and I watch you still improving after more than 2 yrs, and I don't feel like surrendering yet.
Wow! Very cool and super creative! - impressed physical therapist.
well i accepted the fact i'll never walk again.. but i truly hope ths helsp others!
That's an impressive realization and input/output from someone utilizing what tools they have to make gains. Very powerful motivation, my friend. I've got to keep this in the back of my mind. Though I'm not as differently-abled as you are, my future is bleak at best. I have 2 toes left due to MRSA; Big Toe, and Ring Toe on my left foot, and my right lower leg is completely missing below the calf muscle. Sadly, I am diabetic with the difficulty of control. Odds are my legs will be trimmed higher than they are now. So be it; life still goes on. These are not obstacles or hurdles; I just have to do a little bit more than the average walker to obtain the same starting spot in "life." So far, I have beat these obstacles into submission, and ONLY, my own mind limits my abilities. Tools like "Pushing the Line" are a game changer. Thank you for this, my friend. It will be utilized if I get to that position.
You give me hope that one day I will be able to ditch my wheelchair. I can walk short distances but I am hunched over even though I am fused and rodded from S1 to T12. I tried your method on my back porch, our roads are too hilly to do on them so maybe I will go play on a tennis court at the park. I have noticed that since I became wheelchair dependent my tendons in my upper thighs have shrunk and now I have to go through the painful process of stretching them out, so I am hoping to one day go back to using just a cane and standing up straight again. The dumbest thing is that I broke my back sleep walking, and no I wasn't on any sleeping pills I used to take Ambien, but quit after I did some stupid shit. thanks for the updates and giving us hope.
Everything can be useful in your rehabilitation you just have to see the use and how to apply yourself to gain the benefits...........
Wow, this is really really fabulous!! I didn't see this coming, as you said at the end of the video. Great use of the core, arms and hips! It really did look like you were running at the end! :) Keep it up
Hey, this is very interesting. I hope youâre able to get some real results from those exercises.đđđđđđ
Wow what a great way of exercising. You can definitely see the improvement in your walk.
Love this one. I hope my son loves it too
Minus the wheelchair, this is how I move in my dreams. My legs doing work there either.
i was born disabled [permanently wheelchair bound due to incomplete T6 injury] but your technique is something ive been doing for years and i mean years learned it when i was like 7-8 im 29 now i could probs show you other techniques if your interested :)
[as example - if you have a seatbelt and flexability as well as enough weight on the back of wheelchair you can do what i like to call "dog walk" hands on the floor and pull the chair, you can get more speed than pushing the wheelchair and helps going up hill, [it hurts your stomuch and its not safe to do but if your on flat its fine, (wear some gloves)]
good luck! :D
You are such an inspiration. Look at the amazing outcome that came about because you were determined to find a new way to exercise in a new place!
great vid ! please do more like this ! congrats on your move i was wondering where you went to, but now i see this new vid pop up and im like, oh cool ! and hes got another work out, i have done some of that myself in the past, i will start back on that, and do it more constantly this spring ( its to cold right now ) but in march ill be able to get back out there and get back to my work outs
Congratulations! What an inspiration
Have you heard of Myocycle? itâs FES For the lower body. Electrodes are attached to the pertinent leg muscles and as you pedal it detects where you are in the cadence and stimulates those muscles.
Nice moves man! I have been doing something similar, but bombing hills with my freewheel - I'll upload some clips in my next vid, it's my new favorite thing to do đ
Wow! I don't use mobility aids, but this reminded me of a figure skating move I like to do which is a lot of fun c:
I need more workouts like the Weight ball Video workout you did...
I use to do that, back in the 80's
during the first year of being a paraplegic .
Thanks for sharing. I will have to try this myself sometime.
This would be impossible to do in my city!! lol
First of all, because it's situated up on a hill, and second reason is because there's so many cracks and holes on the roads (that could fit a whole body in them) and they don't plan to repair them anytime soon đ§đ§
That's also the reason why I still walk with crutches even though it's freaking tiring and I just die everytime, even after a couple of steps...
I should learn to do this before I move to Germany in summer 2022 đ€đ€
I do this all the time just goofing around now I'ma do it for a work'out đ€
Brooooooo, I love this man. I just saw an idea for a reason to fly to Phoenix, we gotta catch up sometime.
I really need to start taking my wheelchair and I out to the park to do the ring around the intramural fields. After I get over covid.
Welcome to Arizona
Fabulous method
Do you ever meet your subscribes? I live in north Phoenix and would love to meet ya. Iâm a big fan (and not a nut case).
With the first exercise I immediately thoughtâŠ
Row row row your boatâŠ
You do amazing work. Obviously I think you have discovered that you have found your gift in life...maybe it took a tragedy to find it but you did not lay down and die...I am sure at times you felt like it....but you didn't and now its led you to this fantastic calling. I'm curious if you have been approached by any of the wheel chair companies or physical therapy companies...you have found a great secret way above the fear of being stuck in a chair the rest of your life.
It looks as if you are training for an audition to join a wheelchair dance troupe! Maybe you should , you did well before!
Not paralyzed but am getting to the part time wheelchair user phase of chronic disabilities
Iâm a quadriplegic & if I could get up like you I would never be using a wheelchair & psa I can move both my legs
Great to see this!
Question do you have any tips on how I can stop my wheelchair tires from making marks on the floor, I use the SCHWALBE RightRun HS387 Wheelchair Tires. the black and blue and it will be the blue color to be on the floor if the tire gets wet.
11:59:59âŠ. đ YAYYY!!
You got this đ
Thanks Richard đđđ§đŒâđŠœ
This is cool as fk
Hey, dear, did you celebrate your birthday some days before? I'm not sure but I guess. So I wish you the best you ever can get, a healthy - as pooible - life and may God, our Lord and Father, bless you!
Thanks for the vid., I love it! Need a wheelchair which drives on its own.
That is so cool
What kind of wheelchair do u have
If I go to u can u teach me this
como queria ter dinheiro pra poder comprar uma cadeira de rodas dessa, ou até mesmo uma melhor do que a minha !
Arizona? It looks much too green to be Arizona
He's in central Phoenix. Older established neighborhoods with irrigation or sprinklers. Plenty of green there!

I know being in a wheelchair is no way to live life.
Hi, I am trying to work out how to share this on Instagram, can anybody help me? My share thingy only had Instagram direct as an option
