    We have an RV, our jacks pop a lot and it loud. We put in the additive. It didn’t stop. Then a month later we had our hydraulic fluid drained then put the cat additive in again. The noise never went away it just got louder. We never use auto level.

    I change out the hydraulic fluid yearly & add the fork oil (my bus holds 2 gallons - I use Lucas Hydraulic fluid & the fork oil used in your video but would also consider anything CAT)
    I carry a 'deluxe' siphon / pump too but at base camp I use a vacuum pump for hydraulic fluid exchange and so many other jobs... like drawing used oil out of the generator instead of laying underneath. Love it! Mine is a manual pump that holds (and measures) 4 qts at a time.
    Just installed the snap pads ~ so far so good.

    GD momentum 376THS, We've used the Anderson Buckets for about a year without an issue, they are heavy duty, and no issues with them whatsoever. Just left Myrtle Beach where our site was made out of sand, the bucket sunk about 2 inches and stopped, and were stable the entire week we were there.

    In situations where we were not unhitching our 40' 5th wheel I would just put down the two rear jacks to stabilize for the overnight. That rig had a Lippert auto level systems and I amost always had to do it manually because it wanted to lift the whole trailer, which it could do.

    Been using Snapads for three years now and love. Only had one come off backing into an elevated area and it caught on the ground! But it went right back on and has stayed on for over a year😊👍

    I have found that the popping occurs mostly when we are in hot weather, on our rig. It can wake me up when it happens.

      For us, it seemed to happen more at night when it was cooling down. We've put in 3 quarts total now... Good for now.. the next step will be to swap out for higher quality hydraulic fluid...

  • @wanderingsauveys1349
    @wanderingsauveys1349 Před 5 lety +1

    Excellent as always! Sadly, our camper was broken into and some valuable personal items were stolen. We could have had much more stolen had I not shut off the battery switch and locked the slides by closing the same hydraulic valves. When I store our rig, I always do these things now. When we travel, seems we are using the kitchen slide quite a bit, but most of the time after opening one slide and not the other, the valve seems to let a little hydraulic fluid through opening the closed slide about ½ to 1". I just need to open the hydraulics to both, open both slides all the way and then close them and we're back in business. I plan on doing they hydraulic update you mentioned but I need warmer weather as I'm sure my hydraulic fluid would not come out very easily this time of year as it's still not warm enough.

    Guys thanks so much for so many great Videos. I noticed that many people use the word popping with the Hydraulic noise. What we are experiencing is a tapping/Clicking sound every once in a while, out side of the unit you can hear it. So I place my hand on one of the jacks and identified that it was the Hydraulics jacks. We have a new motorhome, I set up a Leavening transit and found that they were very slowly retracting. Brought it to the dealer and they still can’t figure it out.

    Question I’m a gal on my own and was going to attempt to change my hydraulic fluid in my leveling system and ordered the “fork fluid “ Would this be the same process you used to add a quart to eliminate popping to completely change the fluid ?
    Thank you wendy

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 2 lety +1

      This is just a guess.. But I'd think that a complete change-out would require bleeding the whole system. It might be easier to do a 95% change out by bringing all the jacks up and slides in, then swapping out the fluid in the reservoir. Then cycle everything a couple of times in and out.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 5 lety

      We haven't done a video on it, but I can give you a quick synopsis: Our primary camera is a Canon 80D with Rode VMP+, sometimes mounted on a Ronin-S (gimbal). We use the GoPro Hero7 for some vlog-mode shots and as a secondary angle when using the Canon. On the Bike, we use a GoPro Hero 5 with Karma Grip (Tara manually filming), Two GoPro Hero 5 Sessions mounted in various locations, as well as the Hero 7. For aerial shots, we use the DJI Mavic Pro (original). We also just started using a DJI Osmo Pocket for quick out and about stabilized video. If you'd like more detail, we do have all of our camera gear in gear in our Amazon Store here 😎: changinglanesrv.com/amazon-camera-gear
      We stared out with just the 80D, drone , and karma grip/gopro.
      Also, if you're looking to get into youtube, we have a blog post about how we got started here: changinglanesrv.com/our-youtube-story/

    How often do you maintain your slide out rubber seals and can you do a video? I’m a full timer with a park trailer. How often would I move my slides out & in to keep the mechanism lubricated? Every 1 month or 6 months. Is there a special product?

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 5 lety

      This is just a guess, but I would think operating the slides once a month at minimum (verify with your RV manufacturer). There are special products for slide lubrication for both the mechanics and the seals. We have both in the RV Maintenance section of our amazon store here: www.amazon.com/shop/ChangingLanes?listId=3BU0VHZ5MXWPN

      Thanks! We've never had an issue and leave our chairs and such out all the time. In our RV we have a simplisafe security system that we don't like much. We're currently researching other options and will do a video on it when we do. We'll also cover security in general in that video. 👍🏽😊 Thanks for watching! 😃

    Hey Chad! About the Andersen Jack Blocks issue... Was that due to a design flaw from Andersen, or is your 397th just too heavy for them? I wonder if they have corrected the issue you was having? My wife was wanting them for the added stability for our new 2022 397th that we are waiting on. BTW, I have watched almost every video you guy's have released on your rig. I can't find anything other than the regular snap-pads online. Did that manufacturer ever do anything like you mentioned in the video? How shaky is your rig with just the pads? We are used to the electric version and it gets pretty shaky at times. love all the videos!

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 3 lety +1

      Since they are rated at 6K, if memory serves, we were way under their rated weight and they still broke. I assume it's just a bad design. Snap pads is working on an add-on to lessen jack extension, but covid delayed that.. No idea when that's coming. We have very little shake even without them.

    Another awesome video, you guys! Thank you 😊 So hey, Tara, do you alter your own hats or buy them like that? (And this might be too nosey so just ignore it but...) why do you do it like that? I think it looks way more cute and spunky looking than the way we typically have it just hung out the back hat hole.
    Thanks again guys!!

    Great video! We just purchased a Keystone Alpine with the LCI automatic leveling system, and I put down plastic blocks for the jacks to sit on, and it was a pain getting them all lined up correctly. Looks like these will solve that issue, and provide a more stable platform for the jacks. I just tried to order them on the RV SnapPad website, however the code you listed does not work. Any suggestions on that?

    I am wondering about the advisability of swapping out a 50 amp fuse for a 80 amp. HOPEFULLY the new ones with an 80 amp fuse have the proper size wiring.....
    Would hate to see something burn up.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 5 lety

      I'll check tomorrow, but I think I saw 4AWG wiring in ours, which would be fine for 80amp < 65ft. Even 6AWG is rated for 70amps < 50ft. Also, the motor is typically only run for about 20-30 seconds which also minimizes the heat issue if the wire is only slightly under-rated.

    • @brucewatson5563
      @brucewatson5563 Před 5 lety

      @@ChangingLanes We have been watching your videos for a while and just hoped you were not overloading that circuit. By the Way, we recently purchased a Solitude, have two Harleys and a Buell in the garage and am looking at a swivel wheel to take the Buell along this Fall, when we plan on going pretty much full time.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 5 lety

      I did a little more digging.. The 80 amp breaker is now standard and it's what Grand Design will recommend if you have the fuse fail or get weak. The difference in gauge needed for 80Amp vs 50 is 4AWG vs 6AWG. One step difference, and at those distances, 6AWG is rated at 70Amps. Those ratings are also for constant current, but the hydraulic pump only runs for maybe 30 seconds for the slides and around 2 minutes of intermittent use for the levelers. So, the wiring is sufficient to handle the 80Amp breaker.
      You have the 374 solitude? Not sure I know what you mean by a swivel wheel... have a link?

    Another great video. Great tips. Maybe the manufacturer should watch your video regarding draining a quart of oil. They should put a pet cock on the oil canister to make it easier to drain and add incremental measurements on the canister so you know exactly how much to remove.

    • @ChangingLanes

      We have not had that problem. But that could be related to the 50A breaker getting weak. I've heard of issues just like what you're describing being resolved with a new breaker. Can you give a little more information on the 80 amp breaker replacing a 50 amp fuse, doesn't sound quite right. Where did you put the breaker ? I've got a momentum 350, and a 16 Roadmaster, love them both.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  Před 5 lety

      On our RV (and likely others), all of the stock breakers are banded together on one side like a bus bar with only one source cable (back to the battery). So, to upgrade to the 80 Amp breaker, you'll need a short run of 6AWG with lugs on both ends to tie it back into the DC source. Hope that make sense. When I replace ours, I'll make a detailed blog post about it here: changinglanesrv.com/
