- I explain how to convert string to numeric variable in SPSS without losing data. First, I explain how to export excel data into SPSS fast and how to convert a questionnaire or survey into data. Second, I demonstrate how to automatically code string or qualitative data into numeric or quantitative data. This avoids the issue of losing data if the data type is changed manually.
The dataset was downloaded from the European Social Survey website (ESS).

Thanks for your videos, it has really helped me
Glad it did
I am experiencing an issue while doing this. for age, i have five categories. but the responses from the questionnaire do not contain the first category; that is, none of the respondents were aged 18 to 24 years. so at the end of this automatic recode, the spss is not coding for the first category. please help.
Have you found a solution for this?
@@ahmedayman9543 no I didn't. I simply coded the rest of the age groups from 1 to 4 in Excel for analytical purposes.
