A few updates to what we were discussing in the show, that broke after we finished recording yesterday.
    1. The new Doom game seems to be titled Doom The Dark Ages, and it will be available on PS5, as well as Xbox. x.com/insidergamingig/status/1794135370839253130?s=46&t=177OlmsfeFG_dCmOdHQ_Aw
    2. Neil Druckman’s full quote regarding “redefining main stream gaming” wasn’t exactly captured properly in the article I read on the show, here’s the full quote: x.com/neil_druckmann/status/1794187395279253837?s=46&t=177OlmsfeFG_dCmOdHQ_Aw

I already have an xsx, but if I didn't, I'd be looking for consistency with releases and quality. All xbox 1st party titles have been very disappointing with the exception of forza horizon, but I'm very casual with racing games so this doesn't really make up for other games.

It's been a while brother, hope all is well with you and yours! Haven't had that much time to comment but I catch the show here and there when I can.
Some nice takes on the Hellblade 2 discussion. I do stand on the opposite side of the fence in terms of enjoyment since I absolutely loved the game (9/10 for me), but like you said that stems from the fact I also loved the 1st one and I knew exactly what I was getting. Not liking this style of game is perfectly valid though, it's quite unique in what it tries to do, it's a very curated experience and not for everyone. That said, some of the takes I've been seeing online have been weird to me. The brevity is one of them. Folks are calling this a '5 hour game' and I honestly don't understand it. Taking my time to soak up the environments, listening to all rune and tree lore, going through the puzzle and combat sections, spending some time in photo mode, all that took me about 10hrs! So basically the same as my 1st playthrough of the first game. I honestly wouldn't want it to be longer than that because it's very heavy as an experience.
Another criticism I don't get is combat. I mean sure it won't be for everyone, but personally I found it so unique when compared to everything that's currently on the market. Highly cinematic, hyper intense and visceral. However, I did play it on Hard which made everything more immersive (ironically I wasn't really feeling it on Dynamic). Different dodge moves, more enemies, having the parry window be less forgiving than the first game, using your focus to power up your attacks and to throw tomahawks and spears back at the enemies... man I lapped all that up lol. Really enjoyed those moments. Another take I don't get is when people say puzzles are worse. Seriously I replayed the 1st game just before this one, it's like folks forgot haha. They're a lot more frustrating in that one, here there's not only more variety but it's a lot easier to get patterns to trigger so they don't get as grating. One thing I will say is the story isn't as intimate as the 1st one and I normally prefer those, so I liked this narrative a bit less even though I appreciated the epic tone. And like you said, what an absolute looker! Easily the best thing I've personally seen on a console. But yeah, sorry it didn't resonate with you brother. You are right that if you didn't like the 1st one chances would be you'd dislike this one too. What I don't get is the folks who claimed to have *loved* the 1st and *hated* the 2nd lol! That shit's just wild to me.
As for the future of Xbox, I've got really mixed feelings. On one hand I've been very happy with their 1st and 2nd party output quality and variety this gen (Starfield, Hellblade 2, Psychonauts 2, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Grounded, Age of Empires IV, As Dusk Falls, and now with Avowed, Indiana Jones, Towerborne etc), but I don't like the direction they seem to be going towards, like at all. Unless they pull a real rabbit out of their hat, losing exclusives will be a massive strategic blunder and make them eventually irrelevant to 3rd party devs IMO. No exclusives is where the industry's walking towards, but as always Xbox is jumping the gun way too soon here. I mean I say Xbox but we all know it's MS behind this with Nadella, Stuart and Hood calling the shots. If it were up to the Xbox trio this definitely wouldn't be happening since we know their opinion from the FTC leaks. It's a bummer man. I'll continue to play on the ecosystem as long as they continue to give me the games I want, but I'm already considering what to do next gen, which is kinda crazy since I've been with Xbox since the OG and bought every single model on release. Let's see what they'll do next, but I'm not very hopeful, especially after the disgusting thing they've done to Tango.
Sorry for the long rant bud, suppose it's all past comments I didn't get to write rolled into one 😂Hope you have a great one and as always, best of luck to the show!

They were getting so f’n close man… it’s such a bummer that they’re seemingly giving up on the vision right as they’re about to have the first party content finally lined up & ready to release…. I’m really hoping that either Avowed or Indy will be a massive hit for them as an exclusive, & drive in some console sales, hopefully that would be enough for them to course correct back towards exclusive content, but I doubt it unfortunately. I can’t lie, I’m partially to blame, as I bought both HiFi & Pentiment on PS5 physically, but if I felt like i had a choice, I would’ve happily bought them physically on Xbox… the drm is just so intrusive that it makes collecting physically for that platform so unappealing to me. My favorite console of all time to collect for is the OG Xbox, I loved the yellow “only on Xbox” moniker on each case, just had such a strong standout art style from the competition. The Tango axing is really what sent me over the edge as a fan. There’s very few studios with that kind of potential… throwing that away really broke my confidence in whatever their vision is, feels very Microsoft Gaming, and anti Xbox (atleast Phil & crew’s vision for Xbox)
But I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, you’ll catch me wherever the games are… ima soulless consumer lmao if Xbox has a banger showcase, with tons of exclusives ready to go in 2024-2025, I’ll be there playing em lol . Glad you dug HB2 homie, I can for sure see why people really enjoyed it. I’ll be totally honestly, I had no idea you could pull off some of those moves you just spoke about, so I’ll have to take a bit of an L on that. I never threw a tomahawk back at an enemy to my knowledge, that sounds sick as fuck lol. & anyone saying the puzzles are worse is totally out of their mind, the puzzles in HB1 were some of the most annoying puzzle sections in gaming history lmao. Appreciate you tuning in brother!

@@UnnecessaryRambling Haha no worries brother, most people didn't realise it when they were playing! Combat's still absolutely on the cinematic/simplistic side, but yeah IMO it's a tad more involved than folks are giving it credit for. And yeah fully agree, drm sucks for physical collectors and I wish they just got rid of it completely. Though sadly I know they won't especially because Steam does the same and seems like that store might be integrated in the next Xbox (which would actually be crazy if it did happen).

At one point it was Starfield. It was the reason I bought a Series X back around launch. I ended up selling it around the time that PC parts were finally back to somewhat reasonable levels since I barely used the thing. I upgraded my PC and played Starfield on PC game pass. It was just so incredibly underwhelming to me. Which this gen has been on par with most of the first party stuff they release. I just don't really know what is pushing people to even consider buying the console to be honest. I guess CoD + game pass? I don't really know. I just wish they could get back to the type of run they had with 360. That just seems like it was lightning in a bottle at this point.

It’s just so weird to look at their most successful generation, with the 360 & look at their first couple years of exclusives, and not see the correlation between that console’s success & the titles you could only play on that console at the time(at least timed exclusives)… Mass Effect, Bioshock, Oblivion, Gears, Forza, Halo 3, Dead Rising, Saints Row, Crackdown, Condemned, etc. it was a stacked lineup. Prolly tons I’m forgetting…

I’m possibly wrong with this… but the one major aspect that keeps me from getting an XBox is just the association with Microsoft and the P.C ecosystem. Every exclusive they have on XBox there’s just something in the back of my mind that’s like “Yeah, that’ll be available on P.C anyway”.
    Gears is on Steam
    Halo is on Steam
    Fable is on Steam
    Forza is on Steam
Sea of thieves is on Steam
If they want players on their consoles at the very least they need some lengthy timed exclusives, which includes keeping them off P.C.

At this point, I can't think of anything that would make me buy an xbox console. and quite frankly, I'm really annoyed at Microsoft being Microsoft at this point. Yes, companies want to make money but it seems that Microsoft (a $3 TRILLION corporation) is only concerned about pleasing their share holders RIGHT NOW instead of giving teams like Tango a chance to....I guess make ANOTHER critically acclaimed game that no one bought because of GAME PASS which is 100% Microsoft's fault. They are training game players to think that they don't need to pay for a game anymore. Just "rent" them with game pass, and then cancel until the next game comes out. It's really hard to be an Xbox fan anymore.

Hellblade 2 is such a disappointment man. Every gameplay segment feels so forced. It got me thinking as to why they just didnit go the Telltale route full story and very little gameplay. Or just go the full RPG route with the voices making the decisions hard, or putting the voices into RPG mechanics. It just feels really lazy, your telling me that they couldnot find atleast one way that they could have incorporated gameplay within the story segments.
According to more Doom leaks it seems to be a Medieval setting with more heavy combat. So im thinking of slow yet hard hitting melee combat with some magic shotguns. Its a much more interesting concept then i thought they would go, so now im much more interested in what they could cook.
