The low string scale length would be 37" if it were a 5-string. The scale length on the E (on either the 4 or the 5) is 36.25".

You didn't want to BUY picks? You can get them for free, and quite easily. A bag of 20 is maybe $20, so I don't mind parting with a couple picks if you ask nicely. I am also involved in an open-mic night, and we have a red Solo cup full of picks people have either dropped, or left behind. If kids need a pick, they are welcome to dig through that.
As for me, I remember when I was a teenager, I already had a collection of picks, and various other things, just because I was involved in the music scene. Several older guitarists gave me stuff, and I would grab picks off the floor when I would visit a studio. Now that I am old enough to have a teenage kid, I find myself giving stuff to the kids I work with, picks, straps, those red Fender strap rings, gig bags, little things like that. I remember how helpful that was for me when I was a teenager, so I like to continue the cycle.
