After over 6 months of ownership, I have come up with this list of the top 8 things I hate about my Maverick Hybrid. There are other items, these are just the top (bottom) 8. Overall I love my truck. But not relationship is perfect and neither is mine with "Area51."

These are pretty good points. I think each would drive me crazy too....hmmm time to continue looking at the Ridgeline.
wh'ine whine whine...it's a great truck for the price
Yup. When you say “for the price,” that low price should give the Mav some latitude. If it was a $40000 truck, yeh id expect keyless entry and bla bla bla. But for the price, its awesome.
Great video just got my 24 but i gotta say, i still kove it!😅😅
Just bought a used mav I agree with everything you said, lol. That shifter is the dumbest thing.
Overall, I'm sure you will enjoy yours like it do.
I agree with all those things and they are why I have not bought a Maverick yet. My main problems is removing my keys for my pocket for any reason. I have a 2014 Focus ST and it has push button start and all I have to do to unlock my doors is grab the door handle or hatch handle and it unlocks! 9 year old vehicle has that technology and this Maverick doesnt???? Also who approved the NO cruise control on the 22 model XL's? That was obviously intentional and designed to push buyers towards the higher trims, and was a bad move in my opinion. it cost the owner $120 to add cruise control and program it, it would have cost Ford $45 (Even if they charged $120, there is no excuse for that). I also love driving a manual, and giving it up for some twisty knob is very annoying.
I think it is still a great truck. But Ford definitely missed on a few things.
I just passed 2 years on my '22. Only 4000 miles. Really. My only issues have been lots of recalls, some they don't have solutions too (not good), and poor service. Dealerships do not give a rats butt. Oil change #1, did not reset oil life (first dealer); oil change #3 (different dealer) again noted they reset oil life, nope! On the airbag recall same dealer as the oil change #3, left panels not connected, stuffing coming out of the headliner, general poor fininshing touches and a 9/16" nut that probably belongs inside a door somewhere. On the good side: I like the mpg and the fact that I willingly bought a cheap vehicle, so my expectations match the poor build, the poor entertainment system, and the fact that I will be able to unload it with very few miles on it.
Dude, it's a brand new product, of course, they find things to fix. I got several recalls for my F150
For the price it can't be beat.
Yup. Great little truck!
The not remembering Eco mode has been bugging people since day 1, not sure why Ford hasn't fixed this trivial problem yet.
Seems like an easy software update too!
Number one…I am so tired of the wait….2023 hybrid aug. order
I heard some horror stories about the wait....
Rotary shift knob, the ugly blue interior( why?) And the unavailability. The rest I can live with. And p brake.
Considering this is basically the replacement for fords economy cars thats not a bad list. I mean its this or a ford escort or focus or pinto. I think this is the cheapest ford you can get now and for that it seems pretty good.
If you bought the lariat you would have a key fob but you bought the cheap truck
Ford apologizes for the lack of these features. So, for 2024, the price of a base Maverick will now be $35,000. LOL 😂
GO BUY A LEXUS HYBRID PICKUP. OH, THAT'S RIGHT THEY DON'T MAKE ONE.
I've had mine for three months. Hybrid XLT. My issues:
1) The fob. Minor pain
2) Sound system. Below average
3) Having to choose driving mode every time
That's really it. For $34k I'm not going to complain too much.
Has been a good truck!
I don’t have any problems with my ac going more powerful with engine running/not running. (2023 hybrid)
I will wait for Toyotas competing model myself.
I will be really interested in that car also. Hopefully, it will come in a hybrid that is lower cost than the regular. Toyota typically charges more for the hybrid models.
Great video. Yes the braking is horrible. The steering is very stiff, and I feel like you've got to keep feeding the gas via the gas peddle. Waited from 9/22 to 12/16/23 for my 2024 Maverick and I am very disappointed. So far I hate it and regret the purchase. The ride is very choppy, not smooth at all. The tires that came on it are crap very low tread. I drove it out of the dealers lot and heard a thump, thump noise and the vehicle was kind of hoping up and down. I brought it right back and service showed me a stone that was in the tire. That stone seemed to be not much bigger than a dime. I was shocked that this vehicle was so vulnerable to it. So far I'm very sorry that I bought this vehicle. It is not a pleasure at all to drive and is somewhat laborious. I'll definitely have to buy better tires for it. You shouldn't have to buy new tires for a brand new vehicle. And, you have to roll down the windows and touch the side mirror to change the position. That is ridiculous! One of my vehicles way back in 1991 had heated electric side mirrors. Here we are in 2024 and my brand new 2024 Maverick doesn't even have electric side mirrors. Okay, if they didn't want to make them electric then at least have some kind of a tiny joystick or whatever that you could manually move around to change the position of the mirrors. Lastly, the tire pressure gauge was showing that one of the tires had 11 lbs of pressure in it. I work from home and don't drive much. The vehicle came with a bad tire. The dealer sent someone to pick it up and bring it to be serviced. They replaced the tire.
sorry to hear you had so many issues
You are spot on with the braking. I am super careful in a parking lots and driving in bumper to bumper traffic. I hope that Ford can work this out in a software update or some type of modification.
One can hope....
Oh yeah the low speed braking is horrible.
My 23 maverick doesn’t have braking problem, everything works great..
@@sylvainlaurence1554 Sure you don't have the 2.0?...
Waiting? Number one? Waited a year and a half to find out that I wasn't called to order mine! Learned this January when they called to sell me a car. Asked about the Maverick and was told they had one ten thousand over asking price. Never told me the price, but kept talking over me. Originally Maverick was one of the worst cars ever made. Surprisingly they brought the name back. Might buy my first foreign car. Would have hated your other seven for sure. Haven't had AC in fifty years!
Sorry to hear that man. The Maverick ordering stories really suck. I bet the competitor that Toyota announced will be good. Maybe force these Ford dealers to be less greedy.
Would you like some cheese with your wine.
If you wanted push start. Get the lariat model. A lot of people still prefer the key.
Car thieves: please people get the push starter.
Reminds me of an Oldsmobile 442.
Except in case of the Maverick, it means 4 cylinders, 4 doors, 2 much money. 😂
Really? I think it is a great value . Overall, I really like the car
@@GearGadgetExperiments Really. You can't order one this year (already, and tax season isn't even close to over) The base price is around 23 grand, but you can't buy one anywhere near that. More like 35 grand, and you get a five foot bed and 1500 Lbs load capacity.
It's more like a car with an oversized open top trunk.
No thanks. I'll keep my 1999 Ranger until someone comes out with an actual small reasonably priced pick up with a useable bed, or go with a Toyota or even a Nissan at this ridiculous cost. At least then you get a frame, and not a unibody.
Yes, definitely not easy get for Msrp.
@@GearGadgetExperiments Don't get me wrong, I like the vehicle, but it's more like a heavy duty automobile than a truck, and it fills the need of an automobile much more than it fills the need for a truck.
The ac is a fault which you should get looked at.
that key is like a knife, stab you while its in your pocket.
not me focusing on all the ants in his truck...
For some parts I agree, however, for the price it's a fabulous vehicle. The ride, the sound system, the hybrid gas milage. I love my Lariat trim. Really only wish it were a plug-in. 😉
Plug in would be perfect!
I waited a 1 and a half year’s to get mine
Yikes! That is a looooong time
Must be the ants resetting your settings lol
You did a good job on this video. All most bought one. But was kind of worried about it until they work the bugs out. Still probably a good vehicle. Thanks for the vid.
Still a great truck. The current models have the braking update, so it should be better than mine was. I got the dealer to do the software update, while it improved, it is still has its bad moments.
It is a 20,000.00 truck sounds like your wanting features of s f150 platinum
If you put it on Max A/C it will always close the out side air vent, and you can still adjust your temperature and fan how ever you want. When you restart the truck the setting stay the same. Just a FYI
To be honest most of these are just hybrid things. Not all hybrids, but for sure, MOST hybrids do all of this.
Why don't you just trade/sell it for a lil profit & go buy. A Rivian trk. I'm sure it will be everything you expect & more, but remember your Maverick was 28k??? Just keep that in mind. I've just gotten my Maverick & for 26k I'll take it just the way it is. Don't compare a Chev to a Benz... That's all...
Your 1st problem is you bought the hybrid
First problem is, he don’t understand how hybrid car works…..
I have Lariat Lux package, and I can't fiend 5 issues I don't like. One is when I open the back door and i get the message to check the back seat, this is a great safety feature, but should be able to to be turned off.
Does economy mode make a difference?
How you drive makes the biggest difference, but if you want to maximize fuel efficiency, yes eco makes a bit of a difference
For braking issue you can go to ford dealer and ask them to up date TSB 22-2493. I did mine and it’s ok now.
Did it. Not a 100% fix czcams.com/video/AnPLHyZ_K7E/video.html
The eco mode also regulates the AC that’s why it’s going up and down for economy purpose.
For me the gear selector, drive modes, and braking are my least favourite things.
- The key doesn't bother me - I'm coming from a lower end vehicle than the Maverick XL hybrid that I bought. Just having Car Play is a bonus for me lol.
- I expected recalls given that it is a new vehicle to the market.
- For the A/C, I find if I leave it on Max A/C, it stays on Max A/C when I get in the vehicle again.
- Lol @ the auto brake feature. I turned it on unknowingly and didn't realize the button was there so I was driving with it on for a few days until I realized I had laid like a fast food bag. or something on it.
- As for the wait, I waited about 9 months for mine. Just before mine arrived (May 2022) I test drove a Rav 4 Hybrid. I was quite interested in the Rav 4 Prime PHEV, but the dealership told me that there were orders for the Rav 4 Prime PHEV placed in Jan 2021 that still hadn't been filled.
It would have been awesome if this truck had a plug in option like the prime. But still a great purchase. I will come out with my magnificent 7 list soon.
The recirculation button resets most likely for safety reasons. Risk mitigation. Recirc isn’t as safe as fresh air mode. GM usually sets theirs up to cycle to fresh mode every 5 minutes or so even when set on recirculate to bring some fresh air in the cabin. I believe there was a death and law suit against one of the car companies (GM I think) and that’s why they do it at GM. I used to set up the algorithms for a major auto OEM HVAC years ago. There just more risk if you don’t of CO poisoning in the event of a weird exhaust leak etc. I’m just saying it probably defaults to non-recirc for a reason.
All of this stuff is just something to get used to.
Audio is terrible man.. distortion. Like the video though. Good information. I’m jealous. Not got the truck yet. Been waiting over a year for ours.
Worth the wait. It is a great truck
Interesting video, but you are much too young for grumpy old man complaints! Go with the good and enjoy your truck.
That is a really valid list of issues and some can be fixed via a software update.
Yes! Some do seem like east fixes!
Recirculation is meant to be turned on after the AC has been running from what I’ve always understood (reading car manuals like a nerd). Possibly why that turns off when the car restarts.
The recirculation on my xlt stays on full time. It won't turn off unless I turn it off(I don't have the temperature on the knob, so it may be isolated to certain models of A/C).
The rotary shift knob is definitely something to get use to for multi-point turns, but that's really where a manual shines. I actually like that the truck requires a key. With remote start, it's nice to know someone can't just clone an electric 'key' and take off with the truck.
I know what you mean my the brake-hold lurch. It's not significant, but the gas is definitely applied prior to the brake releasing, causing a minor lurch. There is a solution for those situations where the 'lurch' is problem. When you need to gently move forward, just turn off the brake hold button and the break will release without any lurching.
Recalls? meh... all manufacturers have them. It's good that problems are being identified and fixed. Tesla had 19 recalls last year alone, affecting over 3 million cars.
The drive mode issue doesn't bother me. I don't have the eco mode(4k/FX4), but if I did, I would chalk up having to change it each time to basic checks before taking off. Sure, it's a minor inconvenience, but having the vehicle automatically go to normal drive prevents people from accidentally being in previously used modes.
I don't experience the braking issue due to mine being the ecoboost. On the bright side, you get 2x the gas mileage in-town. :)
And I completely agree with the wait... it took me 2 weeks shy of a full year to take delivery of mine. Before I picked it up, I thought I should have gone for a ranger that was available vs ordering a maverick. However, having it for 2 weeks now, I'm glad I waited. This thing is a perfect size, with great handling, and power(ecoboost) that my wallet wishes was significantly less.
Your first mistake was getting a hybrid !
I’d have to agree about the shifter. I don’t own one but I like the concept of the truck.
Do you find you can accidentally bump the shifter while driving? That doesn’t seem safe to me.
No issues with accidental shifting. I don't think you can even shift while you are moving.
I have a Lariat with the luxury and tech package. In addition to some of the things you said, in my opinion the things that are missing are seat position memory, garage door opener, water sensing wipers, parking assist and walk away auto lock. My 2015 Mazda 6 has all of that but the parking assist. I understand that the Escape has seat position memory. Why leave it out of the Maverick? Also I find door panel storage to be worthless for the beverage containers I use. I can’t tell you how many times smaller containers have tipped over and fallen out of the door. SMH
Thanks for the videos!
GO back to your Mazda…
Great discussion, my thoughts:
8. I do enjoy how I can throw it into drive or park and not have to think b/c I just go all the way to the right for drive and all the way to the left for drive. Actually I dont even really need to throw it into park b/c once the key is out, it auto parks which is a great feature!
7. I agree in that setting #1 sometimes is really powerful in mine LOL
6. Agreed.
5. Agreed, I never use it either
4. LOL YUP! But being first gen, I kind of expected this but my dealership hasn't been able to get parts to fix it either
3. Agreed. Actually slippery mode has given me the best fuel economy so far b/c it allows the truck to coast like its in neutral sometimes.. the regen brakes are not aggressive in this mode at all
2. AGREED. I saw on mavericktruckclub that the engineers are working on a fix that's set to release in December 2022. I thought this was going to be your #1 haha.
1. Yeah, I was just over 6 months for mine but then again, I was patient and shelved the idea of owning a Maverick
Another great video man!
Yes, #2 was flirting with the #1 position. haha. I will try the slippery road tip! Does that setting help with #2 at all?
@@GearGadgetExperiments Unfortunately nothing I've tried helps with #2, we'll just have to wait for the software fix it sounds like
I like the rotary shifter, but i would prefer just buttons as i have it in my Honda. You don't need a huge stick for an electrical switch.
I never had an issue with the heat or the a/c, i just set the temp and put it on auto. It works great.
The key thing is what it is. I think the vehicle dosen't have this feauture because they tried to save some money.
The break hold is a little rough but not horrible. In my honda it 's 100 times smoother.
The drive mode reset is a big problem for me as well. I always drive my Maverick in ECO mode and i hate that i have to set it every time when get in to the truck.
No braking problems.
No recalls ( i only got the truck a few weeks ago).
No wait time for me. My old van died so i got the Maverick. (yes, i had to pay the "market adjustment" price) :(
I dont think thats a ''hold'' button.
In my F150 that same symbol is to turn off the auto start stop ''so called'' feature.
The motor will just turn itself off at a stop light unless you press that button.....
This one is a brake hold. On the ecoboost, there are 2 buttons; one for the brake hold and another for engine stop.
There is another suv/truck like thingy that is designed to be more luxurious. It is called the Hyundai Santa Cruz .. leave the Maverick as it is..
The things you are complaining about, you can get those things in a much expensive vehicle, the recall is more than it sure be.
What about the noise in the dash ... subtle squeaks sounds like its where the dash ends and the windshield begins ... anyone have that problem?
Hmm, I have not noticed. But my electric motor does make the sound of "distant sirens" every now and again.
Yes i have a slight dash rattle
How many times do folks need to be told "DON'T BUY A BRAND NEW MODEL WHEN IT FIRST COMES OUT?"
Go buy something else! I love my velocity blue xlt hybrid maverick but it is a cheaper vehicle if you want something with all those fancy things GO BUY SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!
What a whiner comparing a $20-25K vehicle to his $50-100K Tesla.
Can you say whiner?
Perhaps you should know what you were buying.
What was the recalls ?
Airbags and vapor in engine bay.
You might want to buy a more expensive car or truck. It will give you all the features you want. Also don't buy the first year model of any car, to let these recalls get worked out.
i bought a 2020 fusion its been the same model for years now. theres a recall on the flex plate that can go at any time you would think they would have worked all this stuff out.
Does not sound so great... too many problems that many have talked about (on youtube).
looks like you have a ant problem
It's sounds to me like you really hate your maverick! They say when you buy a new vehicle, you lose $5000.00 when you drive off the lot. I will give you $15,000, for yours. And when my 2023 comes in I will sell it for $40,000. What do you say!!!!!!
Haha. It is worth the wait. Great truck
Nowadays you gain 5k when you drive off the Lot. BidenFLATION is real
I hated your Ford Maverick from day 1. Go Tesla! Go Prius! Will you make a Prius camper conversion?
haha. I will do a prius camper one day. It will need to be 100% easily removable since my sons use it daily. I think you LOVE Maverick, you are just not willing to admit a truck is better than an 4 door car :) haha
@@GearGadgetExperiments I love Maverick in Top Gun! Go Tom Cruise 😛
