- A sort of national park to connect two national parks, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the quintessential Appalachian Mountain backroad drive. A winding two-lane road that hugs the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, from Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most enjoyable, scenic routes this nation has to offer. This is a great summary of RV stops along the blue ridge for those who want to road trip. Thank you
Thank you 🥰
I love the Blue Ridge Parkway! My journey last month (September) through next month (November) highlights the Blue Ridge Parkway in some detail, from Floyd Va to Stone Mountain State park, both of which you mentioned. We camped at Rocky Knob and Doughton Park, which are both dry camping, federal campgrounds, ... quiet and beautiful. You do such a great job of sharing the best places for big rigs and you are spot on with Stone Mountain State Park. The federal campgrounds are older and more friendly to smaller rigs, although I have seen some pretty big fifth wheels in a few sites. I look forward to your videos, and thank you for sharing them!
My Wife, Dog and I have done the whole Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway Mountains. Another good Parkway for you to RV is the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi up to Tennessee. We'll see you around the campfire. And God bless you and yours
Love love love the natchez trace Pkwy!....such a peaceful drive, & the stops are undeniably educational! Mississppi has always been a welcoming state, & stop-off towns are charming! Enjoy the journey, right?.....! No matter the road we're on!
I do soooo want to go there!
@@JurgensJourneys Go !!!
Another great video!!! Thanks so much for sharing with us!!!
Absolutely!
I love to watch you!!! I save most of the videos. We bought a Thor Axis 25 ft motorhome and I'm "itching" to go East where I've never been.
Hello fellow Thor owner!...got ours July 3rd...been on few excursions...it's a freedom traveler...drives like a dream [ & I'm 5' lady!] & it's Ford gas engine has better punch than our diesel pusher had!...
Plan to be amazed at our Smokey mtns...in the blue ridge Pkwy, TN & NC...the trees, waterways, mountain views, the crisp air, all make the "E of MS" mtns some-of-a-kind!...happy and SAFE travels on the trails of life!
We stayed at Wilson’s in Asheville, and Crabtree Falls campgrounds in September 2019. HIGHLY recommend both!!!
Thanks for doing a review of parks east of the Mississippi.
Agreed!
Thanks for the great review and video.
Wondered about the camping on the BR. Glad you presented this. Thanks!!
You bet! Happy camping!
Awsome Vid, Thank you for the Info
Thank You so much for the suggestions
Yes Thanks!
Tennessee is beautiful. Glad its my home .
YES! lived in mid TN many yrs...am in the flat farmland of W TN...after covering roads of W TN 9 yrs, I've great respect for our farmers & their families...TN has lotsa scenery-filled roads!...and good folks!
Boy are you right about some of the switchback trying to get off the BlueRidge parkway. Near the VA /NC border. Unfortunately they are not well marked and we ventured down one that was a driving disaster & I was in the car!! Narrow, winding, tree&rock overhangs and road was being resurfaced. Glad I was not pulling the TT down that hill.
Great video! Thank you
Love it!!!
We do too! Happy travels! - Liz
Thanks for the review and info! We did this part of this route last year.
Thanks for the vid. We’ve been staying near the Blue Ridge Pkwy since May and stayed at Stone Mtn SP yesterday and Linville Falls NPCG right now. We’ll have to check out more of your suggestions further north. It is also worth noting that there are several low clearance tunnels on the south end near Great Smokey NP that are not passable by most RVs.
Good to know! Thanks for commenting.
I like your KYD hat! Cross promo :)
Same here! Good eye!
Love the channel! BTW...it's the "App-Uh-Latch-un" mountains ;)
Cool, thanks! - Liz
TWO OF OUR CHILDREN WERREE BORN IN LYNCHBURG‼️Beautiful area❤️
We are heading up to Skyland Drive in Shenandoah National Park for some cabin camping in two weeks. Always go up the first week of Oct. If we can get the 5th wheel next spring then we will be doing it with that. Sweet... But we enjoy the national park. Many great places to see and hike. One day we will plan on traveling down towards the Smokies.
That sounds wonderful! Have a great trip!
We've loved our journies thru Smokies by rv & motorcycle! We travled in the Shenandoah mtns, yrs ago, stayed in the valley...some of the most picturesque sights in those mountains, as well! ENJOY & HAVE SAFE TRAVELS on LIFE'S TRAILS!
Thanks for sharing
You bet! - Liz
NC my homestate
Dude Perfect
It starts in Front Royal, VA
great area to ride motorcycles
Indeed...esp dragon tail! ... they need hospital nearby...frequent wrecks. Been on sev rides over there in Smokies...good times! Ride safe!
Yes it is.
Very popular for motorcycles.
👍
No prices? How hard a reservation, what restrictions. Drove my van and it was crazy tight turns. Almost empty of content. Tight rds trailer parks, ect. Did I cover it?
What about Mt. Pisgah campground?
We drove the Blue Ridge Parkway a number years ago. Would like the take the 5th wheel.
Sounds like a great idea!
Did you avoid the tunnels along the BRP? What do you have on the Skyline Drive? You are towing a 5th Wheel, right?
One of the many reasons we opt for 'small' camper with less than 10 foot clearance. Some 5ers and class A would have quite the nervous trip thru these tunnels, one which is 10' 6" at the edge of the road thru the tunnel. The CENTER of the tunnels are pretty decent heights, but in some you would need to hog the center line thru a 700 foot long tunnel to keep from knocking off the corner of your rig's roof. www.blueridgeparkway.org/tunnels/
Be prepared for extreme Interstate highway noise at Wilson Riverside Camp! The riverside feature in its name is minor, I-26 should be instead.
Good point!
@@JurgensJourneys Good evening to you sir, I just checked out your channel and fell in love with your buddy "Rottenbear" Just had to subscribe, take care and travel safe.
Wilson has a charming 'funk' factor being small and having several fulltimers that live there. But don't be dismayed, friendly neighbors, lovers of Asheville. The French Broad River is right there out your window giving a counterbalance to the "river of sound" from the interstate that parallels the spot. No joke if you are wanting a quiet place. Right down the road from the Arts District, think urban and your expectations will be better aligned.
@@susanbviemeister3596 and also be prepared to move out at a moments notice due to flooding. I used to work at Norfolk & Southern trainyard just down the road from Wilson Riverside Camp and I've seen the campground flooded many times and have even seen camping trailers damaged there because of it.
Why do I feel as if you have never driven the BRP? Everything you said sounded as if it was second hand information. Many sights worth seeing were not even mentioned.
One word ,content
Cannot do camping along a 469 mile drive justice in a 5 minute video, and you don't even mention anything south of Ashville, such as Mt Pisgah campground (one of eight that are actually on the parkway), or several others not far off the parkway.
CharlesinGA I know they are great campgrounds right on the parkway .. Lynchburg is not anywhere close to the parkway !
There’s Linville Campground Doughton Park ... MT.Pisgah with the Pisgah Inn across the road ...Balsam .. and Mile High
Otter Rocky Knob
The signs tells everybody all about it in the USA
Loved the great information but puzzled just a bit why Stone Mountain Park was included ? It's a long way from The Blue Ridge Pky.
Hey Travels with Yoly! Stone Mountain State Park is actually right next to the parkway and can be seen on the NPS map here: www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/maps.htm
Campendium - Living here in North Metro Atlanta I can tell you for certain that Travels with Yoly is correct. Stone Mountain Park is a very long ways from the Blue Ridge Parkway. I think the one you see on the NPS map is different than the one you posted pics of. The pics are from the “Georgia” Stone Mountain Park. The one on the map is in NC.
@@drkeds01 I just see photos from www.campendium.com/stone-mountain-state-park in NC.
👍🇺🇲
Appalachian is pronounced Ap-uhh-latch-chun and not Ap-uhh-lay-chun! There is no "LAY" in the name! Just wanted to clear that up since I hear it mispronounced all the time. It's mostly Yankees that mispronounce it! You also might want to mention Julian Price CG has no hook ups and you missed Pisgah CG south of Asheville. It's also no hook ups.
Ap-uh-la-chun
Where is the boondocking????
The Blue Ridge Parkway is not known for dispersed camping. You can head over to www.campendium.com/blue-ridge-parkway/ to find other options in the area! Happy camping - Liz
Lol don’t let anyone from the Appalachian area hear you pronounce it like that. I used to say it your way till I moved here in Bristol. I just about got cursed out over the pronunciation. Lol it’s pronounced “ Apple atcha”. Lol. I’ve video.
No Mt Pisgah Campground? Not cool...
If you're a lover of Mt Pisgah Campground, we'd love for you to leave a review as to why: www.campendium.com/mount-pisgah-campground Reviews help guide Campendium's choices of featured campgrounds in videos and articles. - Liz
Bears could be anywhere.
ANY BEARS???
Bears inhabit the Blue Ridge Parkway 🐻 The NPS has some best practices for bear safety for both you and the bears! www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/bear-safety.htm - Liz
rving is not camping. lol
