  • A sort of national park to connect two national parks, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the quintessential Appalachian Mountain backroad drive. A winding two-lane road that hugs the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, from Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most enjoyable, scenic routes this nation has to offer. I love the Blue Ridge Parkway! My journey last month (September) through next month (November) highlights the Blue Ridge Parkway in some detail, from Floyd Va to Stone Mountain State park, both of which you mentioned. We camped at Rocky Knob and Doughton Park, which are both dry camping, federal campgrounds, ... quiet and beautiful. You do such a great job of sharing the best places for big rigs and you are spot on with Stone Mountain State Park. The federal campgrounds are older and more friendly to smaller rigs, although I have seen some pretty big fifth wheels in a few sites. I look forward to your videos, and thank you for sharing them!

Boy are you right about some of the switchback trying to get off the BlueRidge parkway. Near the VA /NC border. Unfortunately they are not well marked and we ventured down one that was a driving disaster & I was in the car!! Narrow, winding, tree&rock overhangs and road was being resurfaced. Glad I was not pulling the TT down that hill.

We’ll have to check out more of your suggestions further north. It is also worth noting that there are several low clearance tunnels on the south end near Great Smokey NP that are not passable by most RVs.

We are heading up to Skyland Drive in Shenandoah National Park for some cabin camping in two weeks. Always go up the first week of Oct. If we can get the 5th wheel next spring then we will be doing it with that. Sweet... But we enjoy the national park. Many great places to see and hike. One day we will plan on traveling down towards the Smokies.

One of the many reasons we opt for 'small' camper with less than 10 foot clearance. Some 5ers and class A would have quite the nervous trip thru these tunnels, one which is 10' 6" at the edge of the road thru the tunnel. The CENTER of the tunnels are pretty decent heights, but in some you would need to hog the center line thru a 700 foot long tunnel to keep from knocking off the corner of your rig's roof. www.blueridgeparkway.org/tunnels/

Wilson has a charming 'funk' factor being small and having several fulltimers that live there. But don't be dismayed, friendly neighbors, lovers of Asheville. The French Broad River is right there out your window giving a counterbalance to the "river of sound" from the interstate that parallels the spot. No joke if you are wanting a quiet place. Right down the road from the Arts District, think urban and your expectations will be better aligned.

Cannot do camping along a 469 mile drive justice in a 5 minute video, and you don't even mention anything south of Ashville, such as Mt Pisgah campground (one of eight that are actually on the parkway), or several others not far off the parkway.

I think the one you see on the NPS map is different than the one you posted pics of. The pics are from the “Georgia” Stone Mountain Park. The one on the map is in NC.

Appalachian is pronounced Ap-uhh-latch-chun and not Ap-uhh-lay-chun! There is no "LAY" in the name! Just wanted to clear that up since I hear it mispronounced all the time. It's mostly Yankees that mispronounce it! You also might want to mention Julian Price CG has no hook ups and you missed Pisgah CG south of Asheville. It's also no hook ups.
