stratoman YJM Thanks for asking. I wish I could help you. I am not aware of any states that allow driving with less than 20/200 acuity in at least one eye without the telescope. I don't think that Michigan will allow you to drive, even with bioptic glasses. Good luck.

Here is a video demo showing how those with Stargardt's Disease really see, created by someone with Stargardt's - czcams.com/video/FGu7zkI_CKk/video.html

I have star guards, I find it hard to believe that these glasses would work for somebody with star guards, I’ve had star guard since five years old so I have never driven, pretty sure it would not work for somebody with star guards

Thanks for your comments. I can understand your doubts. Most people with Stargardt Disease have been told by their doctors that nothing will help them. The doctor knows that there is no cure or treatment but has forgotten that low vision glasses help many people with Stargardt see better. I'd recommend that you look at other videos on StargardtEyeDoc@CZcams.com. Also, have a look at IALVS.com for more information. You will see that low vision glasses do help. Of course, the amount that they help depends upon how much vision a person has remaining. I am glad that you looked at my video and appreciate your comments.

Hello, can these be used in the UK?

Nazia Dean, I am not aware of the vision requirements in the UK. They may have a website that you can check or call the DMV medical office and ask them. I will ask the laboratory that makes the bioptics if they can provide the name of a UK low vision doctor that you can ask. Good luck.

The laboratory does not know of a doctor in UK for you to ask. They said that driving with bioptics was proposed in UK a few years ago but do not think that it was approved. I still recommend that you check with the DMV. I an sorry that I can't help you more.

Thanks for your interest. These telescopic glasses are prescribed individually to meet the needs of the patient. They contain the person's eyeglass prescription and the appropriate amount of magnification for their needs. That is determined by careful evaluation by a low vision optometrist. That is the only way to know what is needed and how much improvement they'll make in someone's vision. You may be able to locate a low vision optometrist near you who can help. I hope so. Good luck.
