- Dr. Doug Lake, a radiologist at Bellevue Medical Center explains the difference between a CT scan and MRI scan. He also explains how he decides which scan to perform and the state-of-the-art equipment in use at Bellevue Medical Center. The MRI at the hospital is much better for people with claustrophobia and for larger patients.
Guy seems smart, thoughtful and seems like he cares about what he does. So many doctors these days seem to rush through everything. Nice to see someone care about their work and their patients.
I'm sure they used the most on-camera friendly person they could. It only helps promote healthcare but this particular facility.
The background music has totally absorbed the clarity of your wonderful presentation , why not without it ?
I've had two MRIs and both were pleasant; the buzzing put me to sleep and I was totally inside the tube. the ventilation was excellent. Nothing to fear.
Bullshit
how could you sleep with the loud ass noise
@Lawn Mower lol thats pretty funny
Your obviously not claustrophobic
@@soumikd794 something about it eventually put me to sleep in a restful way. I look forward to it but not another injury.
I'm getting an CT scan on Thursday. Never had that one before.
This was so helpful. SO many people do not know the difference. Including me, a future nurse, lol
I don’t know too , but I want to know really, which of them is better for people who already have a stent ❓
Thank you for your help
CT is an X-Ray for hard objects such as bone and MRI is for soft organs and muscle tender.
Both are useful in the medical world m.
No really, for broken bones you get a simple x-ray not a ct. I had a ct yesterday for my digestive system and an ct is a more in-depth x-ray and an MRI which I'm having tomorrow is more like a bunch of photos in a sense.
I love how he explains the details. Thank you , this helped so much with questions
I also found this video very helpful. I'm in California, but this helps me to understand what to look for.
That man is ...dreamy! :) I love you Dr. Lake. xx
Your first name is perfect last name as well. Both describe you perfectly.
This video needs to explain the moderate to a large amount of radiation that is used in CT AND PET scans...do MRI instead. Very important.
It becomes a problem only if (too) many CT are done. The dose delivered is surely huge confronted with a normal X-Ray, but if only one is done, no visible damage is done.
People who have metal plates on body can't do MRI. That's where CT scan be useful . (Why metal plates on body ? - due to accident metal plates are used as replacement of bones/parts of skull )
@@pj4510 Or maybe braces.
The biggest difference is harmful radiation (CT) vs. no radiation (MRI).
😂yes they and all the comments missed the most important part. But you got it.
I have an interview as a CT/MRI assistant on the 25th of feb and needed some research ... Great video, a lot of information in such a short video, thank you :)
Ionizing radiation. The biggest difference. As I understand it, ionizing radiation destroys DNA.
Thanks very well explained ct versus mri
Less claustrophobic...fantastic
This is very informative and straight to the point. Thank you :)
I had my very first MRI today and had no trouble with it
Why do hospitals and drs not warn you about the radiation risks?
CT scan has radiation MRI does not..
For fuck sake get rid if the background music
Is Ct scan without contrast accurate ?
I have had headache for a while now that comes and goes
Doctor got me CT scan and showed clear brain but acute sphenoid sinusitis
But i keep thinking i need MRI and that maybe CT scan isnt accurate or they made a mistake ?
No other side effects though.
I was in a accident about 16 months ago. It wasn't a small accident since I had to go through surgery and all that. They gave me the CT since my surgery was related to my head but never a MRI. Now listening to this and realizing MRI detects a lot of soft tissue issues I feel I should open my case back up. I'm not old either im in my mid 20's and really feel like the University of Minnesota owe me answers? You really don't know how hurt you are until everything you thought hurt heals.
your video has too much background sound that i cant hear voice properly...you ahould remind it later
The contrast administration isn't the same though, MRI contrast doesn't have Iodine. Just saying, nice video.
So, in most if not all instances, MRIs show BETTER, MORE DETAILED pictures??
CT scan shows certain things better, for example a cancer spot etc. But the MRI shows soft tissue based pictures better such as muscles etc etc from what I understand. As he said many times and really depends on what the patients issue is as to which type of scan will be best.
I think both important, but the ct worries me more because of radiation.
@@thelmapatocchi3080 Its nothing to worry about
Can the Doc explain for " what small things " the CT scan done?
Very informative video. Nicely done. Much better than watching House lol
God bless you brother !
What was the MRI machine type? Nebraska is too far for us. I want to see if somewhere in my state might have a similar machine.
I have a question regarding when a CT scan is performed. Does the beam always need to rotate around the body to get the images required. or can your body be scanned by just having the body be moved back and forth into the machine while holding your breath .Also is there a light that comes on.
But which is better for people with stent in heart?
Thanks 🙏🏻
so there is a major difference of time for the scans to complete.
I had 2 MRI's this year - both took about 45 mins to an hour, my CT took about 1 min to complete but with the contrast being attached etc it took about 20 mins in total.
What's better for brain scan?
Nice video doc💐
Can you do mri if i have a tooth implant?
Can u use a MRI for looking at the pancreas for pancreatic cancer?
Yes
Why do a CT scan at all? Isn't a MRI safer and more accurate? I don't want to be exposed to ionizing radiation.
thanks for your information i'm going for a ct scan on my hip tomorrow :) ..
The background music is very distracting and annoying. Hard to hear voice because of it.
i have ms and had mri 15 yrs ago. just had ct. it was quicker, easier and cheaper. now wait 4 result- kept positive attitude jus want vertigo & depressn to leave! 😰
If MRI is better than CT, why do CT in the first place? Why don't do MRI directly???
Ct is for hard objects like bone and mri for the soft objects like muscle and tendons.
what is better for spinal cord injury?
I would imagine both would be required but a CT would be the best because of the detail it can give.
thn alot
Hello Doctor, how do you think?
Does my brain structure have an unusual from the others?"
2:28 Carol from The Walking Dead
15 seconds for a CT scan? really?
that doesn’t include the preparation (transport, questioning, IV if needed)
the scan itself can actually be less than 15 seconds, its the time when the machine tells the patients to hold your breath then after 4-10 seconds the machine will say breathe, that’s the actual scan he’s talking about.
Im a CT/Xray Tech.
@@gerald2935underwear Your name... UNDERWEAR... How come bro.. sorry if u mind explaining
Hi Sam
Radiation level of ct vs mri?
Mri no radiation
CT has radiation
Ct scans 10 to 20 msv or mgy on abdomen and pelvic scan and hundreds of xrays. Similar amounts of radiation Hiroshima survivors were exsposed to. Get an mri or uktrasound first. They are radiating the hell out of people

Why play this music, totally not needed DOH!
Medical Records
Give me the MRI first no CT waste of my time and my money
Difficult to hear what he's saying, the music is very annoying!
Use a lay man,s language
Now make a video justifying me having to spend 4k for an mri
