wouldnt say it was remarkably similar to 10 years ago. When Doug Ellis sold the club to Randy Lerner they were a pretty established mid table club, no threat to the top 6, no danger of getting relegated, though they finished 16th in 05/06 i never thought they'd get relegated that season at all. The Randy Lerner reign has turned sour and since he lost interest in the club they've fought relegation for 4 seasons before last season

How I personally feel about it is this is all Lerner's fault. He knew in his heart that he was done spending with MON and that's exactly the time he should've sold the club. He didn't and fucked everything up and we're where we are now because of his mismanagement. That's the nuts and bolts of it all and my mind's not for changing on that now.. We missed a golden opportunity to push on and this is the result. Dan Bardell said, in an earlier video I watched, that we have always lacked a plan and I agree with him 100%. I've said the same thing for years now. It was always the same under Ellis also but he never over spent to the detriment of our club. Even with Dr Xia I can see the same mistakes happening all over again. There's no cohesive plan in place and it's not good enough anymore. I'm sick to death of the same old same old shite. I will always be #vtid though mate.. #UTV

I remember the good times.gabby when he could actually score and playing next to carew, milner and young on the wings and Barry and laursen are two best players. Makes me angry when I look at that team and compare it to the twats we had when we got Relegated with. In 6 years we went from Barry and laursen chasing champions league to Carlos sanchez and ally cissoko being relegated. Let's hope with these new owners we can get back to where we belong

HKT 423. Too many darn English players. That's what destroyed Aston Villa for me. You look at the players you had: Young, Barry, Milner and Agbonlahor and you realize they're not good enough.
English players are overhyped, overrated and most of the time just ordinary. Building a team around mostly English players was a recipe for disaster. In my opinion, you would've been much better off signing foreigners like Juan Mata, David Villa, Santi Cazorla (back when they were at Valencia and Malaga respectively). Foreigners make the league what it is and make the English players look better than what they are.

Lerner spent and spent. The problem was Manchester City and their wealth came and overtook us. The clubs wage bill was out of control. We were losing more than the revenue we were bringing in! MON wanted to bring more players in and was told you have to sell to buy. MON disliked this strategy and walked. Unfortunately Lerner then made one disastrous appointment managerially after another with a huge influx of flops, major flops on the pitch. Not to mention awful appointments off the pitch like Tom Fox.....
