You can probably get like 50 gems from big crystal islands. Just break all the crystals. Even with max jewelcrafting you can sell them and get like 5-10k galleons
my tips is grinding dark sea for the thornflower and stormsalt, like playing normally and i still get enough to max out both brewing and jewelcrafting at the same time
