  • On December 2, 2023, I got word that CP G16 was taking a Saturday extra northbound between Hermon and Brownville Junction. Leaving the yard just after 1 p.m, they would stop at American Iron and Metal in North Bangor to drop empties and pick up loaded scrap cars. I would catch up with them here, finding a BNSF six axle trailing third, a neat foreign power visitor for this area. Due to the short days this time of year, I would only shoot them at one other spot before cutting off for the day due to low light. I hope you enjoy!

Nice work! Only get to see 4 axles here. Never mixed like this. Down on the Belleville sub it's mostly just big GE 6 axle stuff, don't catch too many geeps, and trailing usually if so.

Is the Havelock Sub restricted to four axles? This area in the video is basically the farthest south the six axles can go on CP, as it is restricted below Hermon which is only like four miles south of this location.

@@BranchlineGeepProductions The Havelock Sub technically doesn’t have this restriction. The Nephton Sub does in the timetable.
They do not send them out here (beyond the yard limits in Toronto) due to weight on the lesser rated track. There’s some photos on my page from a 1996 trip as far as Peterborough with two six axle units and an MLW C-424. And a year or so ago they were doing some work here to allow it. But seemed to have stopped.
The NBSR McAdam sub is similar to our like except with class ii track (still 100lb jointed rail) and they have no problems with SD70s.

AIM also ship scrap by rail out of their Oakland facility switched out of CSX Waterville Yard.
