    A good reminder why we love the outdoors up north so much. We get some heat, sure, but also days in the 50s and 60s, even in mid summer... A cabin with AC though, that's a novel idea. Never see that up this way. Everyone's favourite bit was the donkey. Soooo adorable. Our kids would have been going in for hugs.

  • @adventureswithLK
    @adventureswithLK Před 2 lety +1

    I would hike in the rain to have a sandwich and drink like those, yuum. Rattle snakes here on the west coast is probably my number one worry when hiking on hot days. We dont get a lot of humidity here in Northern California, but the dry heat will get you to if not prepared and well hydrated. In dry areas your sweet evaporates much quicker then in humid areas, so you dont think about water intake as much, that when heat exhaustion and dehydration gets you. I have had to make a conscious effort to drink water even when I dont feel thirsty. Really nice video.

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  Před 2 lety

      Ah yes, I lived in Texas for 10 years, I know all about that dry heat too! I had to turn around on a recent solo backpacking trip due to the heat. I started having a hard time making simple decisions, then a headache came on and then I realized I hadn't peed the whole day. And I was fatigued so I had to call the 15 mile overnighter on the AT off and turn back around. Smartest thing I could have possibly done. So appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.

    We have been getting a bit of that in the UK, real hot mornings then torrential rain in the afternoon, unusual for us. Loved the cabin and air-conditioning too, real nice. That rain really came down on your first hike and the beauty of shaving my head is, you are not bothered about wet hair lol. The cocktail sounded dam refreshing and loved the toasted sandwiches, or doorsteps as well call them when they have been cut that thick. Healthy start to the morning but man 99F is way to hot for me, not too keen on the sound of snakes! I think you got it right in that hammock with a good book, although kayaking and margarites sounded good too. I hope you are feeling okay now that you are back home, cheers Alan

      These are what we call the "dog days" of summer. Right now feels like temps are 105 degrees, needless to say, I am inside today! July and August are not my long hike months that's for sure. In next week's video, I address that a little bit. Around here you gotta look where you're walking because you could step on a danger noodle (venomous snake) if you're not careful. So just a way of life. The hammock was the perfect way to cool down. Try that cocktail Alan, it's so refreshing. Cheers back at ya my friend ~RVA~

      Hey there Jason! Thanks a bunch! Be sure to watch next week's video! You have a little shout-out in my next one. But I think I may have misquoted you, lol. In our comments, I think you said in July and August you trade in your backpack for your kayak. I think I actually said you trade in your hiking shoes for your backpack. Close but oh well I tried. HA HA. Stay tuned.

    Great video, enjoyed that! It’s mental how the weather can change, I thought it was bad here but it’s especially bad over the pond! Looked a nice play to stay that, nice woods to go hiking although I would be a bit over the top thinking everything was some sort of snake or something ahah, all the best Joe!

      @RVAHikerGirl  Před 2 lety +1

      I am used to looking for snakes. I love watching and photographing them. They are hard to see because of their great camouflage. Especially when I am alone I am very away of my surroundings. Thanks, Joe for watching, appreciate ya!

    That was a fun trip. Cute cabins to relax in. Getting caught in the rain was fun. Cool looking mushroom on the tree. Looks like you were eating well on the trip, great food and cocktails. Great trip. Have a great day.

      Thank you! Yeah, I can't get spoiled with these cabins, so it's back out to the tent for my next video. Just waiting for cooler temps to go on my longer hikes and backpacking trips again. Where is fall? I always try to give ppl some new food ideas to try out camping or hiking. I get tired of the same old stuff all the time. Happy Saturday!

  • @BulldogBadger
    @BulldogBadger Před 2 lety

    That cabin looked AMAZING! Just the perfect place to relax, I was in North Carolina just before Covid in a place called Raeford, if I go back I will have to get the location of these cabins and get one for the weekend👍

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  Před 2 lety

      @@BulldogBadger I wouldn't plan on staying longer than 2 days here. Besides the trails, there's not much to do besides relax. There is no water access unless you hike down to the river on the trails. .9 is the closest. While I loved the little cabins, I definitely want to try out some other state parks to check out more camping options in NC. I had looked at Jordan Lake, they have waterfront camping there. That's a possibility the next time I am down that way.

    Getting your stuff dry is a pain sometimes! 😁 Lucky you had a cabine in the woods! 😁 That sounds dangerous as well, it is that only in the movies? 😁 All the best, Kaat

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  Před 2 lety

      Yes that’s all in the movies LOL! No honor scenes at this quaint little cabin ha ha. This was a work trip for JByrd so we made the best of it outdoors instead of a tradition business hotel.
