Big model trains running inside my small house

- This is a collection of G-scale model railroad trains from LGB and Piko. It starts with a LGB 25554 White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad diesel locomotive pulling freight cars. Next, there's a LGB 21576 Santa Fe diesel locomotive pulling passenger cars. Finally, a Piko 38212 AT&SF steam locomotive provides some pretty cool steam train sounds! I don't know what the deal is with the headlight on that locomotive... it seems to randomly go on and off.
The operation of multiple trains on the same layout is made easy due to DCC - digital command control - which allows you to control each train individually. This includes changing speed and operating the horn and bell of each train. It's a fun hobby!
These model train videos are extremely expensive to make. What you see in this video cost in excess of $5000 and I'm sure my entire collection cost in excess of $15,000. Each one of the locomotives cost approximately $1000, each rail car about $200, and each foot of track about $7. What you see in this video was the way my train collection was in early 2015. But these days I have a LOT more trains! See them all in a much newer video of mine at • Every One Of My Model ...
Is my train collection too large for my house? Nevermind, I already know the answer. The obvious next step will be to move the whole thing outdoors.

Nostalgia I loved to watch this back in the day ❤
Anyone in 2024 rewatching this absolute banger of a nostalgia video from their childhood.

Beautiful!! Kudos to your family who put up with your toys! As a child in 1950, my family had Lionel steam locomotive that belched smoke when a special white tablet was inserted in the stack. My dad only set it up on special occassions. What a treat!
As a child, i can confirm this is my dream XD
love your track builds
That sound though! ... it sucks being a kid in the 80s... I’m going to do the stuff now with the little one 🤣🤣
Bravo congratulations like a small railway museum
I just cannot undrstand the (so many) dislikes in this video. Generally, if someone doesn't like train models ,can simply avoid watching. It is absolutely meaningless to watch this video and then.... dislike it.
About this video in particular....the man has a small place.....still has done a beautiful work!!!
Nothing wrong with this ! (Did it also, many years ago ! ) LOL...gotta love, 1:02 when it creeps around the corner..The pet bowl..Bet that really makes them eat fast !
Nice job.. enjoy !
Totally agree nothing wrong with it. I just wish i had the space to do the same.
I remember watching this and loving it
I´m 54 years old and when I was a kid, I never had a Lionel miniature electric train; but I had a Trian-g (I´m not sure if I wrote correctly the trademark) one. It was very elaborated too. What a nostalgic moment for me! Thanks for share this video. Greetings from Venezuela.
Very cool!! One shot that I, and others, find mesmerizing, and you almost have it, is when two trains are running on tracks that are next to each other with slightly varying curves. This layout would work as it is if only the trains would be running side by side in the same direction or opposite directions. As the cars are doing their 'train thing' it's awesome to see them snaking around next to each other. You almost have it on your pinned video here--all you would need to get that effect is have the trains passing each other and/or running side by side but shoot it from above to catch the snaking effect :-) I had this going on with a beautiful and complex Marklin z gauge at a children's center and groups of adults and kids would often be standing in silence as the trains glided around doing this = just like heaven...
I really liked the ATSF and the WP&Y trains they looked great
love your trains
Dang bro,you make me to the childhood memories :')
my grandpa used to have a whole room in his house where he had a whole huge model train set, where me and him would just go for hours, but he took it all down and packed it way a few years ago, and watching this video braought back so many great memories
When the train go around the house it's amazing
That is beyond cool - I want one!
What a great video, looks like our house when I was growing up! Trains everywhere:)!!!
Thanks for the memories:)
This is a great teaching tool! Thank you!
Really cool. Thanks for sharing.
I love you Jim, you bring out the kid in me.
I love it and the way they go all around the house gives a huge layout with a lot of different turns
you have made my childhood
thank you jim zim
Wow trains everywhere in the house! Awesome!
Awesomeness
This is awesome
Superb! Thank you for sharing :)
Very nice. I've had HO scale, but I like the larger scale trains as well.
i watched this video when i was 4 and im back now at age 11 i loved this video
Great video, and great trains! Marvelous how the carpet manages to deaden the extrinsic sound.
it seems original trains are running really awesome
I like the ALCO. It reminds me of the old MLW RS 18s that BC Rail used to field back in the 1970s and 1980s.
I wish I could do the same, but found trains don't run on carpet.Loved your video."Here they come through "Dogdsh Pass"
This has got to be one of the most mentally stimulating and visually satisfying videos on youtube. Right on, man.
Great video I'd love to build ones like that Maby not as fancy but the sounds and track lay out is amazing! Thanks for sharing
Hey Jim, I really love your LGB layout and also your lokomotives and waggons. Im just really impressed that a LGB video could reach more than 30 million views, this is really really impressive. I wish you good luck for christmas (your presents) and just stay how you are. LG Philipp (LGB SCHMALSPURBAHNER)

Cool video
Super train's!
That settles it! I’m getting my nephew a model train set for Christmas. But since he’s 3, it’ll have to be one that’s designed for little kids who tend to... ya know.... break stuff.
É simplesmente fantástico, muito lindo, parabéns.
AWESOME!!!!! Thank you for sharing and there is always room for trains. Keep up the good work.
I remember watching this as a kid. I loved this vid a lot!
Yup i agree
O.O yeaaa i can see an adult doing this without a kid, kids ruin the fun for some reason lol, looks awesome
Jim Zim, it’s my first time putting a comment below and I never do that before it’s my first time doing it but those trains were awesome

You have to love LGB!-a carpet is all the ballast you need! The day after Thanksgiving every year my son and I go hiking: if it's raining we bring the trains up and do exactly what you are doing in this video.

There's just something so satisfying about watching toy trains run
WOW... AMAZING BUDDY...AMAZING

Me to
Wow, so i'm not the only adult with a little kid inside!
We all know the best train is the Pere Marquette 1225, class "N-1" 2-8-4 "Berkshire" type steam locomotive built in October 1941 for the Pere Marquette Railway by Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio.
That was the best train video🤩🤩
Nice
You my good sir, have quite the nifty collection!! :)
My trains ate up 80% of my bedroom space at one time but it was sure was fun for the year I had the layout. Nice variety of trains you have there as well.
How much did that coast, dude?
I think was somewhere around $10,000 for all the model train equipment involved in this video. I actually acquired even more in the years since. If you look though some of the other model train videos on my channel, you'll find some huge outdoor layouts involving even more cost than this one. It was all bought with the ad revenue from my CZcams videos.
The Santa Fe sounds like a UFO sound based
It looks like a lot of fun!!!
2:22 That Santa Fe train though 🚆
Good movie !! Choo choo 🚂🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋
Nice locos in your video
wow, awesome! thanks for sharing the fun :)
Nice collection and cool video...
Thanks, Moses...
Very nice and good job
How did you wire it up to for all trains to work in-dependably. a similar setup but only have two switchers. Can you help me out with steps on how to duplicate your setup connections for mine, and let me know what I would need to add to get it working?
+Louie Rodriguez
To be able to control the trains independently, you have to have DCC (Digital Command Control). Each of the trains has to be set up for DCC and the control system does, too. In other words, it does not operate on an analog system like trains used to in the old days.
With an analog system, you vary the amount of voltage that is sent out to the tracks. The higher you turn up the voltage, the faster the trains go. If you have two or more trains on the track, when you turn up the voltage, they both go faster. That's the analog control system that has been used for model trains since the beginning of model trains.
With a DCC system. There is a constant voltage running through the tracks at all times, even when the trains are stopped. Digital signals are sent mixed in with the power on the track, and those digital signals are decoded by the trains and that's what tells the train to speed up, slow down, blow the horn, turn on the lights, etc.
If you have older trains, it may be possible to add a DCC decoder to your locomotives. Since I'm fairly new to the game, I just was careful to make sure that every locomotive I purchased already had DCC installed.
Thanks!
I love this with all my heart, i don't know why
Cool layout
u have nice layout
very nice train travel pictures video
That's a very nice collection, it'll make an amazing garden railroad.
The best thing about these locomotives is their sound and horn, pretty realistic, This won't be cheap anyway i want :D
Where to buy these models??
wow, cool
Wow awesome set-up if you leave alone hehe...well if you have people around or even kids they might step on the trains and act as big giants ready to destroy your trains LOL!
those are awesome!
very nice and beautiful
Amazing video. I am also fond of trains. Can you please suggest how to make this setup. Particularly the multiple lines joining. Thank You.
loved it !
