      It's ridiculous how these awards are all regular season awards (and in the case of all star, you could have a killer start, get into the all star game, and then suck for half the season).

Cause he was 19 ppg as the Third option yet was the Mavs smartest players and could've been the first option but he knew being 3rd option at that time would be better for the team cause KP and Doncic are better scorers inside. • @cheetah219

      Right? I was like...guys it's a 100 mill contract for 4 years. This isn't a decade ago when that was a max contract or close to it. This is a very reasonable contract and short term. we didn't give up the world for an all nba /all star player like we did Melo.
      We got clowned because we didn't get Mitchell or KD (twice), kyrie, etc.
      He's going to get better and if the Knicks get a few more pieces, it's going to be a ecf / championship level team. Right now, I admit, we are pretenders / 2nd round exit at best.
      I think the problem is that we don't have a player that is bonafide more dominate than someone else.
      On paper, all of our players can be stopped no matter how clutch they are. None of them are a Luka, LeBron KD, curry where there is very little opposing players can do to stop them. It almost always seems like Brunson, Randle, Barrett and the team have to work at 70 to 80% effort to get what they want vs. LeBron or Kd can scale way down and let the game come to them...they win and you find out they had the quietest 30 point double double or triple double.
      We have a million draft picks and a very favorable salary pool. We've got to make a big trade and go for it next year otherwise, Knicks have no choice but to give Brunson a fat contract, trade Randle/ Barrett...quickley is likely to get let go, etc...unless the Knicks really are bought in on this team there is no reason to extend everyone

    I just remember hearing a discussion after the 2018 NCAA tourney. Cowherd and Jason Whitlock and a couple other scrubs were talking whether the Villanova title team was all-time. Whitlock kept making cracks about how Brunson would "have a cup of coffee" in the league, or when it was suggested he'd have a long career, he sniped, "yeah, in Latvia." I thought then, and it's stuck with me forever, that he was a moron who would never get called on his idiotic take. So I'm calling him on it now. Whaaaaaaaat a dummy. I'll never drop this either. Lifetime enemy. JB is amazing.

      -- well, if Legler thought Brunson would be just an average-ish NBA player and Whitlock said a colorful remark about how sub-okay Brunson would be, very few people including myself thought Brunson would be this good.

      So...Great on Brunson. Great on the Knicks, for once.

    • @Berniekid24
      @Berniekid24 Před 5 měsíci +4

      I don't know if anyone but Brunson was confident that he'd be an all-star caliber player. Even in that round table, everyone else was basically where Legler was: JB would be a serviceable player in the league for the entirety of a decent career. Nothing crazy like what we've seen. Whitlock was the only one who was sooooo sure he'd be in and out of the league in a hurry. I think everyone was "wrong," including myself, but Whitlock was the MOST wrong. Whitlock is stupid. The Knicks have centred their offence primarily around JBrunson and JRandle. They can't beat the top 3 teams (Celtics, Bucks and Sixers), however everyone below those 3, we can easily beat. If we can replace JR Barrett, who's good but not good enough to be the go-to man in crunch time. If we can replace him with a Mikal Bridges or a Kyle Kuzma or even a Paul George-type player who can get a bucket when u need it the most. This would elevate a team that can't get out of the second round to a title contender. Honestly, Paul George would be a perfect fit with the Knicks and the style of play with Brunson and Randle.

    It kind of reminds me of everyone being surprised by Adrian Griffin joining the Celtics in the late 90's, after bouncing around Europe league etc and then suddenly finding himself starting for the Celtics and playing fairly well (wasn't super common, pre CBA)...he was asked, what's your secret?...he said, hey, it's just basketball, and I know how to play basketball. NBA is as much about marketing, opportunity, what the fans want to see, which then gives the players the minutes and system focus to excel...New York has for a long time been a unique fan fuelled team in all senses of the word, which is perfect for a player like Brunson. That's not a cynical take, it's just what can make the difference between someone is seems like "just" a bench player, but given the right setting is suddenly bossing the league...seems to happen for point guards as much as any other role in the NBA, partly because they have the choice with the ball in their hands.
