We have to make this show as popular as Bridgerton! So we can get the complete adaptation of our Grishaverse!!!

Ok, look, the grishaverse is one of my favorite things in the world, but shadow and bone will never be as popular as Bridgerton, and it's very simple to explain why:
1) it's a fantasy, it excludes everyone who doesn't enjoy worldbulding, different physics, magic, extensive CGI, own slang and group divisions different for reality. And believe, there's a lot of people.
2) the chosen one. Alina is the main character and she is a "chosen one" which means only she can do something incledible, that no one else can and she doesn't even want to do it. A lot of people hate this trope.
3) Bridgerton is romcom, so you watch for the only pourpuse of watching two people fall in love and get married, while shadow and bone has romance as a side plot not the main one (which it's not as bad thing at all, but also will loose the people who only want that).
4) Bridgerton ignores most world ploblems to focus only on family drama. Shadow and bone has war, action squences, fights, we have the crows who are thieves. Not every one wants that, much more people would rather watch a simplified romcom world than a world with war, blood and battle.
So as much as love Shadow and bone, and will continue try to get a crows spin-off with all I can, I know it will never be as popular as Bridgerton. Cause it's a niche story, not an universal one.

@@Lilianjade. Ok, first the obvious thing: you're talking movies. And not only that but theater release movies. Let's assume each movie of any of those franchises is max 4 hours long. People go to the theater, with a few options to peak, they choose one of those, sit there for four hours and come back some time later for the next one (1 year, maybe 2). The company see the box office numbers, decides to make a new one. For franchises like Harry Potter that target really young teens and LOTR that it's written by someone famous as Tolkien is even a bigger reason to keep investing on it. You could even argue that the producers were planning on set space for the bigger run, the last Harry Potter movie was the most lucrative one.
Now, we are talking Netflix here, not theater. They don't count box office numbers, they count viwership. They don't have a few options avalible, they have like a thousand options. We're not talking about movie series were you watch like 4 hours and then wait to come back, it's a continued 8 hours and then 2 years for more 8 hours, that's the 1/3 of a day. If Shadow and bone ends with 3 seasons, it will take more time to watch it than all 8 HP movies (which are about 20 hours). They don't care about the long run, and merchandising, and the inter media references like these other phenomenons, they care about first week and first month numbers. While LOTR and Star Wars focus on a large audience (mainly adults, but you could argue their kids as well) and Harry Potter on younger teens, Netflix shows don't target audience, they target universal viewership, which doesn't make justice to fantasy shows, especially YA ones. And ending: LOTR, SW and HP are pop culture references, but go ask how many people have actually watch it, especially the full movie versions, all the movies, in the star wars case, how many people watch it past the 2 trilogys? It had a big impact on the industry, but that comes not simply by going to the theaters, but with big merchandise, references in other midia products (also the author's consagration. Tolkien is Tolkien).
If you already have netflix and watch both 1st and 2nd season it's not a good deal for them, doesn't bring new subscriptions. They end up with the same money they had before, that's not profit. But going to the theater every year for a new movie? There is a lot of money, lots of profit.
Star wars was one of the first alien movies to have such an exploration, sound and practical effects, like the Matrix, the thecnics of the movie (prothesis, wardrobe) all brought attention to it. Tell me how much has netflix brought attention to s&b for people who haven't watch it? They have so many things to market, they don't massive market anything that isn't already a sucess. Bridgerton was easy to hit, so now they market better but before 1st season debut, it wasn't really a big thing. Also it's a Shondaland partnership which brings attention. All my analysis (that you claim to be wrong) takes into account the streaming way of lunching products, which isn't the ideal one for fantasy.
Now tell me, how many fantasy shows, that had streaming only release, more than 8 hours long that made sucess? You know what you're gonna anwser me? I know. House of the dragon. Disconsidering how it is a spin-off to a very popular series, that only were allowed to became popular due to 1)weekly release on tv and 2) adult target demographics (it's one thing to represent gore/war in 18+ movies and something else entirely on 16+) and finally 3)Martin's big books, and I mean BIG, so many pages, so many characters, many locations appearing simutaniously that fill into an 8 hour long narrative. Whereas 300 pages to fit into 8 hours with like 5 important characters tops and one of the main protagonists goals is who she will end up with at the end needs lots of fillers. Which is why they mashup with the crows and bugged the timeline. Or maybe you'd say Sandman, which almost had a big problem with people not wanting to watch as a marathon, but one episode each day or each week, which made Netflix so worried, they took a long time to renew (and again, being an adult show).
So yes, I stand by it. Shows like Shadow and bone can't do more than Bridgerton inside the streaming culture market/release, for all the reasons I said before and now.
crows actors sound so in tune with their characters and those dynamics. it’s what makes that chemistry so good. they were cast so well!!
They also have way more material to work with. Like the characters in the book is way better written and with more depth than in the Shadow and Bone books. So I would expect them, if they read the books, to have more insight into their characters than the Shadow and Bone actors 🤣🤣
My love for this cast increases day by day.

Kirigan is completely and utterly in love with Alina, she loves him too but is obviously torn because of Mal and the fact that Kirigan is evil. This is one show where I was absolutely rooting for the villain. I wanted the General and Alina together soooooooo bad❤
Ngl i feel like the show portrays Kirigan to be a lot more compassionate than in the books. In the books he’s incredibly dark, manipulative and borderline abusive towards Alina.

it is one of those shows where you just wait and wait for next season to drop so you can binge watch it and feel the magic. I have not read the books and wont because why did they do that and not that. and for the same reason I havent seen the mockingbird films, I love the books too much.

I kinda wish we had a show focused on the Crows instead. I’m infinitely more invested in them than Alina’s story. I often catch myself looking forward to their next scene and waiting for Alina’s to be over🫢 Not saying I don’t enjoy hers, but compared to the others, it’s just weaker. Just me?
Same whilst watching season 2 I found myself getting slightly bored of Alinas scenes maybe because it wasn't as entertaining as season 1 but the crows outdid themselves this season I went mental during every scene with the crows it was amazing
