    • @Vincent_Beers
      @Vincent_Beers Před 7 lety +51

      @Pi it's both. They film multiple acts in a day with one audience. Those acts are then cut into more than one episode (and each episode is multiple acts). It get's hard to keep track of the original broadcast order if you are watching the individual acts on youtube, and it was never possible to know what order they were filmed in (unless you were there) since they are often rearranged in editing before broadcast anyway.

    Grab a deck take out 21 cards. Memorize them in 10-15 sec. Divide them into 5 packets mix those packets. Pick them back up in random order. Count random numbers of card put at the bottom do this two times. Then seperate them as qucikly as he did. Now you get it. It is impossible lol

    Dear Rick,
    I'd say it takes more balls to post your trick on a CZcams channel than it does to show it off in front of Penn and Teller. These guys know tricks, they know sleights, they know almost all the prestidigitation methods of misdirection and tomfoolery out there. So all you gotta do is trick them with a fascinating trick where you lose the "how" and become more wrapped up in the presentation.
    CZcams commenters will frequently pick apart the trick, piece by piece, until they have theories, and then they scrutinize and sorta bully - calling your trick easy, simple, pathetic, etc.
    So hats off to you, Sir. I enjoyed the presentation, I enjoyed the idea, and I enjoyed the whole effect. It doesn't matter at this point if you know what trick you used, you made a fun and enjoyable act.
    And you posted it on CZcams, and as of now, you have 1635 likes to your 71 dislikes, that's a 95.8% approval rating. Big cajones, man. *applauds*

      @TheGreatShortdini Před 7 lety +1

      Rex Spaulding the method to this is really simple. Im a magician as well and I own his video where he teaches this same effect. Obviously the way he is doing it is a lot more difficult with him reciting a poem which was amazing. Also you cant just sign up for fool us. The magician gets a phone call and they either decline or agree to be on the show

    • @markotodorovic7013
      @markotodorovic7013 Před 7 lety +9

      Rex Spaulding The thing is no one really fools Penn and Teller. its just the fact that they have around 30 seconds to crack the trick that someone was developing for months. Give them few hours and I'm sure they'd crack it. Just like a lot of people on yt did.
      Unrelated to that I'd like to say that this guy lacks charisma. He tryed way to hard to make it interesting and it was just boring to watch. One of the worst performers so far on Fu.

    • @holly_ween

    All I'm going to say is its a simple algorithm. All he has to do is remember what order to place the cards in which pile after he has simply forced the same types of shuffles. It does take memory, not memorizing where they where just memorizing how to repeat the shuffles and separating them afterwards.

    • @casualpolice7710

      To memorize anything and recite it like that is not difficult, I bet there are plenty of songs you could recite, after some practice you could easily increase the speed. The handling and keeping track of cards is a good skill but no more impressive than any other magician who has spent a few years at his craft. PLUS the jokes...well each to their own I suppose.

    The remembering the red and black card order in the beginning is pretty easy. Remember the number of red and black cards in succession instead of color after color and then alternate between left and right piles. That's why he didn't want the applause back then. The second time was truly deserving of applause though. Especially with the poem in between, which would completely ruin my memory. And the stacks and reordering.

    • @asymmetricfuzion970

      I don’t think it was memorisation. I think I’ve worked it out from looking at it (and this is no comment on rick. This was an awesome routine and a MILLION miles better than the crap that goes on Facebook with the sticky notes). Well, worked out a way he could have done it?
      He said there were 21 cards. I think it was either 20 or 22. I think when he “memorised” them (remember he was throwing one or two away) he just ordered them red black red black alternating, culling cards across. Then when he came to deal down the piles he just had them in even numbers (so they alternated throughout. I.e whatever was on top, the opposite was on the bottom). Then it wouldn’t matter which order they were stacked up in. Then the cards from top to bottom doesn’t change the order of the cards. Then when dealing them down he does lots of little like cross hand type things where he’s distracting from the fact he is just colour sorting them from the red black order. That visual distraction mixed with the incredible poem memorisation made for a really slick little routine.
      I am always more interested in the method than the actual punchline for whatever reason but I really like this routine either way :)

  • @bernd_the_almighty
    @bernd_the_almighty Před 8 lety +9

    The trick itself looks simple to me as a programmer. As it's about red&black, you only need 0 and 1 (base-2). So, for example, 8 cards go like: 0010-1101 (black-black-red-black etc.). Binary code is easily translatable without calculation (unlike decimal) to hexadecimal (base-16), for example, 0010 in binary is 0x2 in hexadecimal, and 1101 in binary equals to 0xD in hexadecimal. You basically need to remember only 16 such matches by heart. In the end you get a row of hexadecimal values. In my example above, 8 cards get translated to just two letters: "2D". Then you use the usual trick of assigning words to every hexadecimal letter and constructing a story from it. Say, 2D would mean "2 dudes". And that's it. To "remember" the original cards, you need to do the same but backwards. 2 dudes is translated to 2D; value '2D' is translated to binary '0010-1101' (just 16 matches to remember). Voila, you've remembered the order of 8 cards.
    The rest of the trick is a combination of classical techniques and some other mathematical quirks like that.
    However the guy does it by reciting a poem, and that's which is pretty impressive.

    • @bernd_the_almighty
      @bernd_the_almighty Před 8 lety +4

      +carsten There are also things in programming like binary trees. Basically, 0 can mean "go to the left" and 1 can mean "go the right". So if you have imagined some sort of a labyrinth imagined in your head, where each dead-end contains some object, a stream of binary code can lead you to the answer. That's how some of the compression schemes work.
