How to Make a Simple Picture Frame | Episode 1

  • Don't forget to check out woodworkingmasterclasses.com for a whole bunch of projects just like this one!
This is a uniquely different way to make a picture frame, but Paul designed it specifically to work with hand tools.
Sizing the eight components with the level of precision needed can be tricky, but two guides make the whole process quick and simple. We have dispensed with the mitres normally associated with picture frames altogether, giving these frames an assembly process and look you've never seen before.
It's a step-by-step process with accuracy and we walk you through every step.

Back to doing what you love, and we love seeing you do it too... Good on you Paul. Three more weeks until my arm is out of the sling and I start rehab... Your comments about woodworking being good for rehab are very encouraging... I'll ask my surgeon. In the meantime, I'll live vicariously through your hands. Thank you so much, Paul

I've been learning from you Mr. Sellers ever since I first saw that first dovetail box build and those first videos of you in the yard planing wood against a tree to build a bench. I've come a long way as a woodworker since those early days. Many of my skills and success have come from watching and learning from you. Your encouragement and positivity have meant more than you will ever know. I was saddened to learn of the attack. Not surprised really, bad things happen to good people everyday. There is rarely anything that makes that right. Your return to the shop, this video in itself, is the best thing that can come of all pain and injustice. The opportunity to move forward with you makes me happy. My best to you and your's sir!

I'm gradually getting more mobile, by using woodworking as my recovery aid, after having bowel cancer operated on 3 years ago.
Although I spend a fair amount of time watching CZcams videos, and just sharpening, and honing various tools.
I feel it does make you take your mind off the problem, and concentrate on the movements. Stay strong.

    I have a question:
You’re using a jig to plane to a desired thickness. How do you avoid planing the tracks of your jig while planing the workpiece? Did you grind a special plane iron to accomplish this?😊

Do you ever find that your pieces bow after you rip a small piece off the edge of a board? Do you just deal with it, do you straighten and redimension? Maybe the joinery will pull it back in, I guess it’s different case by case.

It's nice to see a craftsman at work and I have no doubt that his skill is beyond reproach, but it does seem a very long-winded way to make a simple frame, additionally, one can see end grain on every corner due to the method of construction, which is certainly not attractive and not how picture frames are normally made using mitred corners which are quicker, look so much better and can be just as strong.

Hi Paul. My wife and I just watched ‘picture frame 1’ and now on vlog 20. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience. Has the runner been caught? Self-Entitled pomposity is no reason to go about assaulting innocent people who were in the right in the first place. We both hope you heal well.
I’m a beginner woodworker at 61yrs old. I was diagnosed with MS in April 2017, forcefully retired by the DVLA because they took my vocational driving license and practically shredded it. I can still drive cars but not much else. It’s taken me until now to find something worthwhile to do with my time. What ‘F’ clamps do you use please?
    Best wishes always
