  • Following along with the project. Transforming our minivan for camping - Part 4 - Putting in the back floor surface and building the shelf unit.
I've been spending my useful hours( which aren't too many:) working on transforming our minivan (2015 Toyota Sienna) for going camping. I've been planning to start this project for a couple years now; things just keep getting in the way. Of course we will be taking and using a lot of freeze dried food that we have made over the years.

We have been buying oxygen absorbers and 7 mil Mylar bags from PackFreshUSA since early 2018. During all that time (1000's of bag and oxygen absorbers, and about 6 year before before we added this affiliate link) we have been happy with the products and service we have received from them.

Before buying a freeze dryer, perhaps research to find out more about the downside of the machine; some people have problems with their machine and it's big and heavy and hard to return!

I keep thinking about all the “neat” toys you have. I wish I had gotten into shop class instead of getting kicked out of school for accepting a steel rod from a classmate. Ominous sounding huh? There’s more to it than that, but I like the ominous sound of it and won’t embellish😂.
Thank you for the picture of the older camper, it puts your project into better perspective. Also, seeing the more than the wife’s and at least one of the boy’s hands in your videos was nice too. While perhaps camera shy, the missus should be in more videos, not just her voice.

😁And I keep wishing I hadn't gotten rid of so many tools after I finished building our house. I just "knew" I wouldn't need them again. I keep hoping some of the cheep replacements I bought (like that table saw) would stop working so I could justify new, better ones! But the pieces of junk just keep working. 😥
Often the half story adds more intrigue; everyone can fill in the backstory themselves.
My spine injury was the results of a boating accident that I wasn't involved in, but I was the only one seriously injured.

Hopefully, the hatch door behind the front passenger seat is aligned to work for accessing the bolt that lowers the spare wheel/tire under the van.

Dang! I forgot to check that. I'll check it and let you know! Thanks!

@@SchoolReportsOnTheGo An easy fix would be to just get yourself a battery powered ratchet wrench tool with a socket that fits your wheel lug nuts. Better and easier to use than the crank handle that comes with the van anyway. Alternatively you can just use an old school manual ratchet wrench with a wheel lug nut socket.

I just checked. Luckily, it lines up well enough to use the regular spare tire lowering tools to turn the tire. If I had needed to use a different socket I would have needed to find/make one for it - it's a 5 sided bolt head.

@@SchoolReportsOnTheGo Yes, you're right. The socket tool that comes with the van for lowering the spare is 5-sided. I thought it was 6-sided like the lug nuts. What I did find was that the Toyota socket tool actually fits inside a 1-inch ratchet socket. The eye portion of the tool actually fits inside a 1-inch socket -- so if needed, can still use a battery ratchet wrench -- or for anyone who loses the hand crank.

Hopefully I we'll never have to use it! But, it's good to know I can get to it.
