This is the best Santa movie I've seen. I can't fathom why it has such a low IMDb rating.
It's because some people think there's better Christmas films out there, no offense to classics like It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation but I can tell that this film has effort put into its production and from what I can tell, the story ain't half bad.

This Christmas movie was a great movie. It combines three different stories together, creating a complex narrative: the origins of jolly ol Kris Kringle, the tale of two modern-day children who become friends despite their socioeconomic differences, and Patch's desperation to win back Santa's respect with the help of the wrong man who was the girl's corrupt step-uncle and toy executive. I give the movie credit for doing what no Christmas movie has ever done before. The Shawshank Redemption was a box office flop but was one of the greatest films of the '90s. It's A Wonderful Life was a box office flop also, but became a classic in its own right. And plus, this Christmas movie tackled corporate greed, homeless youth, and economic inequality very well. It was in the time when corporate greed ruled the decade. And sure, it does have a couple flaws, but it's a great holiday classic.
Agreed. Personally, the art direction, miniature/flying F/X, and the late Henry Mancini's whimsical score also really shine for this '85 classic!

I checked on Wikipedia and I didn’t know that the late future WCW/TNA wrestler Shannon Spruill (Daffney) appeared as the bratty kid in Ballet Class scene. I just know my wrestler movie history. The world has taken for her too soon after she died last year. R.I.P. Daffney.

Wow!!! I thought they were the perfect actors and actresses for Santa and Mrs.. Claus. Beautiful scenes and loved the storyline.

Box Office Bomb: Budget: somewhere between $30-50 million. Box Office: in the U.S., $23.7 million. However, it airs on U.S. and British television at least once a year since its release - even in the 21st century - so it is fairly well-known if nothing else. The U.S. take was actually better, slightly or even significantly so, than several other high-profile releases of late 1985, including Clue, Young Sherlock Holmes, and the dueling Disney movie One Magic Christmas, and many of the year's other family-oriented films (Follow That Bird, Return to Oz, The Black Cauldron, The Care Bears Movie, etc.) for that matter. But with a far bigger budget to make back, it would have had to have been a world-beater blockbuster to show a profit, and it wasn't.
Hey don’t be so hard on this movie! It has a confusing story, but you have to admit it has the Christmas spirit!
