Probably the best film of the past 5 years.

This is seriously an amazing film. Not even comparable to Kramer vs Kramer because 'A Separation' had so much more depth and mystery to it. If all Iranian films are of similar quality to 'A Separation', I am willing to watch them all.

The director Asghar Farhadi is a genius. You should also watch his other movies like 'About Elly' and 'A Salesman'. Then 'Children of Heaven' by 'Majidi Majidi.

I agree! Kramer vs Kramer and A Separation are two very different films. Even though I really like Kramer vs Kramer, it still is the same, standard, feel good Hollywood movie with the predictable (and kinda unrealistic) happy ending. That’s in complete contrast with A Separation. The dialogue and the characters felt like actual real people and the ending was more ambiguous rather than predictable. Both films were telling stories about gender roles in society but one did it in a more realistic and affective way!

@@davy209 The ending actually has a hidden message. If you rewatch the movie, notice what everyone in the family is wearing.

He forgot to mention that this was awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlin film festival. This could be movie-of-the-year material. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for another 5 weeks before this opens in the Netherlands.
If you like this, check out About Elly, the previous movie from this director.

What the hell. I agree that this movie is amazing! However you got so many things wrong. She didn't call the religious people to say if she could be in the same room as the man but to say that if it's okay that she gives him a bath. Also he didn't call that woman in because it was 'woman's work' he would have called anyone in like her husband who was supposed to do the job... its an amazing movie but I'm afraid you didn't get it.

I am not able to name an Iranian movie as realistic, deep, and intricated as 'A Separation" in last few years of Iran Movie history. It's still a simple and fluent story telling piece of art that drags you into daily life of two Iranian families belong to two different Iranian society,

Iranians actually are certainly less religious than Americans and the regime has no supporters.
