- Just thought I would try listening to the HF marine band frequencies tonight. This can get very interesting when there are storms around or even just listening marine traffic in general. Not to busy tonight.

Toms radio room what you lisn to on shortwave HF listening is so awesome
Light the smoking lamp great show
what kind of radio do you require to be able to pick up ship to shore ie port, conversation?
The simplest was is a scanner radio programmed to received the Marine channels on VHF. Many scanners have this already programmed in.
hi, do you know of a particular model?
There are many. Uniden and Bearcat has made many over the years. Also, many sold under the name Radio Shack. I have setting next to me an old Pro-405. With this one and many others there is a button for each of the services (marine, ham, police, etc). They are preprogrammed with the needed frequencies however some of the older radios have frequencies that are no longer used. You need to research what the frequencies show be in your area and you can always program those in manually.
8764 USB is the VOBRA Broadcast out of USCG COMMSTA Portsmouth or CAMSLANT. Want the full, current broadcast schedule for all LANTAREA USCG COMMSTA's? Interesting at minute 4:10, they discussed our policy on GMDSS/DSC test calls. NMN Runs 4KW usually into a TCI-530 Omni Directional antenna from the NMN transmitter site in Pungo (Virginia Beach, VA).
NSNorfolk Thank you for posting this information. We are all here to learn especially me.
Groovy sign!
Rori Rants Thank you. Shows up better in person.
What kind of antenna do you use?
On this setup, I use a G5RV antenna.
You had your radio on before you started your video. Please explain what buttons on the radio, ( frequency) I would assume. I am not familiar. Please help I like by lake erie and want to monitor the shipping channels 🙏
Things have changed. Try these: copradar.com/marine/channels.html
Why don't many SW radios have marine band frequently on them ,140-170 MHz . Air band frequency is fairly common though . Guess a scanner is the best thing or an SDR-RTL dongle . You seem to be getting marine traffic through ok not on VHF .
hamrad88 Tom have you ever thought about doing a live google hang out here
on YT with OfficialSWLchannel? Thanks
watershed44 Yes a number of times. He is way too busy. :(

Is there a diffrence between HF and marine HG? Iknow its diffrence licene catagoryies so if there's a difrence I"d like to know.
I am not familar with marine HG.
@@hamrad88 He means Marine HF, it was a typo. I am also wondering about the same thing. Do ham radios not contacts ships at sea simply because their license does not allow them to or is it because their equipment does not have the capability?
@@brenoribeiro2007 Both for the most part.
@@brenoribeiro2007 - I have worked a HAM Radio operator aboard a RO-RO ship. But it was on HAM frequency and the ship station added /MM to his call sign.
When are you going to get your Tech. Ham Licence ??
I got it about 40 years ago.
Your call....
50's in Lakeland .......
Yep, cold weather finally showed up in Florida.
You have many times problems by tuning in SSB. That can much better. More clearly. 73"' PD0JGR, Holland.
Thanks
I HATE those computer voices; they don't have the lexicon enough to actually read reports. the only voice I think has the right lexicon, is the Paul voice which is the default voice used by NOAA weather radio, as well as the emergency alerting system used by cable and broadcast stations.
