2024: "Man, im glad I have a computer to add halation, grain and dirt"
I wasn't 100% sure how much detail to go into with this one, Or show it in use actually creating the looks! So... expect a totally different video on the channel soon where I just attempt to use this Film Look Creator to create some cool stuff, rather than talking through HOW to use it! đŹ
Sounds exciting!
I can't wait to see what you come up with !!!!
@@frenchiecolorgrading don't expect too much haha I'm no colourist đ Side note... This could be a fun little Collab idea. I'll message on insta đ
@@MrAlexTech ahahha, sure ! Thatâs a cool idea !
Perfect amount of detail!
I rarely leave a comment on anyone's videos, but this one deserves it. (To be honest, all your videos do.) You explain well without being boring or going into far too much detail. You can say less, but I UNDERSTAND better.
Thank you so much. Your work is really appreciated.
I'm always impressed by the quality of yours tutorials.
Thanks very much
Thank you đđ
Whoa! You've done your homework on the Film Look Creator feature. Nicely presented, thank you!
Thank you Alex. Using this can definitely give you a look that is quick and easy!!
This was very helpful! IÂŽm new to Davinci and all the little things and shortcuts you are doing beside the main topic are even more helpful, thank you :)
You know it's a good day when Alex uploads a new video :D
Cool! Love the way you introducing new features. Very entertaining đđ»đ„
Impressive ! Thanks for all explanations
I came here for the jokes and stayed because Davinci Resolve kicks ass.
ah-meh-zing! ha thanks man
@@MrAlexTech And it's a plus cause that voice bit sounded like Peter Griffin.. đ€Ł
Excellent video! I finally got a chance to really dive into this a couple days ago with the beta 4 update. Wholeheartedly agree - SO GOOD!
Good comprehensive guide to the FLC. Nice.
Great review of the film look creator! Thanks!
Thank you for another really clear and helpful video.
I giggled so hard when you said Aeh-Meh-Zing lols
Fantastic indepth tutorial đThanks đ
"AH-MEH-ZING."
We see what you did there. đ€Ł đ
it was really funny right? đ
@@imabadboi I thought so.
Awesome as usual! Thanks for sharing!!
Super useful Alex, you have become quite the expert at Resolve đ
I used to push a BOSCH FDL 60 Telecine chain between 1990 and 2005.
Grading 16mm and 35mm neg and pos film to 1" tape and later Digital Betacam.
Back in the day the Davinci system hardware overlay for telecine colourists was the Holy Grail,
and I could only drool at trade shows such as SMPTE, as the Australian Film, Television and Radio School could not afford it then.
To have it now on my desktop workstation, is a head spin to say the least.
I have the Studio 18.6.6 version running and have also been putting off on 19 to come out of Beta.
This is a gamechanger, I have always been a fanboy of the extensive tool set that RED GIANT provided in their Magic Bullet Looks.
Have also played with Dehancer, but to have this now onboard is a real win win,
thanks Cheers đ·
Beautiful demo and explanations Alex! Especially the "it's not a replacement section" You perfectly demonstrated the reasoning.
So good !!!
The amazing stretch was epic
Thanks Alex!
Thank you Alex.
Wow, fantastic!
Great tutorial. You rule! Thank you so much.
And this is why I watch your vids. I didnât even realize this was added in. Excellent overview.
Beautiful tutorial, very well done sir, thanks for the info!
Thank you for pointig this out! Great tool for instant better videos!
Best video on the film look creator đđœ
Very awesome and detailed video! I will have to watch it again more carefuly! There is a lot of useful info inside! Wow! You must work a lot to provide us all of this stuff! And it's "free" for us, viewers... Sooooo, a big thanks for that! Have a nice one dude!
Thank you so much for this knowledgeable explanation for this new tool. I saw other youtubers but they don't get to the root of it.
Thank you sir đ
You are my hero.
AH_MEH_ZING........đâ€VIDIO
You really baited me with that thumbnail... but I still learned something, so thank you.
glad they finally added the option to start from scratch
Great video, as alwaysđ Seems they forgot to add "film damage" to the effect? Would have been helpful to have it included.
Yeah that would be a good addition!
Oh im first!!! Looking forward to this!
A lot has to be said for the way black magic never nickel and dimes their customers. They give you a solid camera with consistent updates. You pay for their Pro software they never charge for upgrades. Unlike your sponsor.đ
Hey hey. You've lost me. You're comparing a large company that makes its money via hardware, and incorporates a software element ... against a music service that has to both serve its customers with a good product, while also ensuring artists get paid. They're not comparable. Obviously Audiio have to charge. That's like me never trying to make any money and just hoping that I can pay by mortgage with views đ Their business model is generally favourable too with a buy once option.
Unless you're making a different point that I'm missing?!
@@MrAlexTech I donât like how they slowly piecemealed all their content. Not being upfront with people that purchase lifetime subscriptions. Then badgering them about the stuff they canât do. They were not upfront about a lot of things over the years and that wasnât cool.
Wow, this looks the nuts. Is the 19 version out of beta if not do you know when it will be the full version?
Also 1 other thing as im new to resolve, do you have a tutorial for setting up the project and time line please for 4k sony footage filmed in HLG 3 or know a link to a good tutorial please.
Ah-meh-zingđđđ đđ love your videos mate. Very informative
Very interesting. Maybe itâs time for one of those "free versus studio" comparison videos again? Given all the recent changes and updates?
Yeah I think so! I was hoping 19 would launch fully first and then I'd do one with that đ
Most colorists I know, don't use the adjustment layer for color specific things as they tend to create more problems than applying a powergrade to a specific hierarchy in the grading process - i.e. Timeline or post-Group level. I would suggest that people choose one over the other. Also in forums I see people having problems copying from clip to timeline level - and the grab still will work for that - Grab a still at clip level then go to Timeline level and grab the still and drop it on the ( empty ) timeline node area.
I can see benefits to keeping the film look creator adjustment layer if it is used to be an effect, like how you applied it. If it is used in the context of showing a memory of someone with an old 8mm film - then it can work with a powergrade, but that would be a good choice as an adjustment layer - so that one doesn't have to make more groups or add to different clips on the color page.
I think you have covered it really well Alex. Good introduction to this add-on Thanks
You had me at Paid Version! đ€Ș
Oh nice, itâs like a built in version of dehancer
Have the studio version, still on 18.6 because no notification of version 19 upgrade. Don't usually go the Beta route. Have I missed something?
Have you heard when DR 19 is coming to iPad?
This is a dumb question but, how did you set up your fusion Page with the nodes on the right like that?
Is that Beta 4 or something? I don't have Clean Slate
wishlist: being able to blur the film gate, just a lil' bit
When will 19 comming?
The beta is stopping from trying this out. downloading beta 4 at the moment. How are you able to try it out?
Do we have a release window for 19? Or do I live under a rock and it's out now?
thanks for this :)
Do we know when DR19 is eventually comin out? What is your guess?
I have zero inside information remember... but I'd guess we won't see a Beta 5! Hopefully anyway đ
@@MrAlexTech okay, thanks Mate đđ
I am struggling to bring my Photoshop workflow to Affinity. Things like [below] are my "go to" tools but can't find alternative.
1. Create Smart Object, tbat I can merge layers quickly and export it as a single layer.
2. Camera Raw Filter, Quick color manipulation with easy access of masking it.
3. Layers that I can import to DaVinci Resolve, I tried exporting to psd but when imported, there are unread layers. I can't see all the layers.
At 20:00 what command do you use for copy Adj clip? thank you
Click, hold Alt (or Option on Mac) and then drag đ
I have Resolve Studio v18.6.6 and every time I check for upgrades it says I'm current. When can I expect v19 as an automatic upgrade?
Is Davinci Resolve19 done with beta? I was waiting to download it until they were done testing it.
when did the update for 19 get released... I have the paid version and I cant get past 18.6???
Hey Alex, if let's say i work with V Log and V Gamut as the input, the timeline gamut as DaVinci Wide Gamut and my output Rec2020/HDR ST 2084, will this new tool work, is it color space aware or it needs an output of rec709?
Yup it's colour space aware so should work no issues. I just do all of my stuff 709 for the CZcamss đ
@@MrAlexTech okay, i see, thank you for the info and replay! Give a word for the guys over at BMD that we want more micro panel giveaways, hehe!
@@AexoeroV haha I'll see what I can do đ
:-D ah meh zing intro,, lol
so I try and watch all of your videos, thing is with this ones Thumbnail I almost didn't click because Im so use to all your other thumbnails.
Haha I know right. I'm doing some thumbnail testing with it as we can now upload 3 different thumbs and it'll switch them around so we can see which works best. You got the one without my big face đđ
Alex, are you able to answer something about your sponsor please?!
The lifetime music on pricing page doesn't mention sfx are included, but the other plans do specifically mention them.
But if you Google Audiio lifetime sound effects then it takes you to a page which implies you can buy a specific lifetime sfx plan. But that's not shown anywhere on the pricing page.
Would appreciate it if you can find the answer as it will make the difference to whether I get it or not, as sfx is the main thing for me rather than the music. Cheers.
Is DaVinci Resolve ver. 19 released...? And will it be released for the free version...?
Is davinci 19 available or still in beta?
I have the paid version but when go to update it says I have the most recent version. 18.6.6
19 is still in Beta currently so you have to go to the Resolve website and download from there! (or open up the Preferences, go to System - General and tick the box to opt in to Beta notifications).
I've been using the beta since it released and its been just a reliable as the 18.6 version. However, fingers crossed though it will go to a full live release soon! :)
@@MrAlexTechJust to add, if you have the Studio version, have your licensing information handy to download Studio v 19 public beta
Hello Alex, I have just got off the phone with Davinch Resolve customer services because I have been having crashing problems. They have said my AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB VRAM is not powerful enough to handle 4k footage and colour correction, and that is without any VFX. Could you recommend any GPU'S please that will work well with Resolve for all my needs and wont break the bank.
I've been holding off Version 19 till it goes out of Beta but at timestamp 13:15 you answered my biggest question.
So this Film Look Creator is basically a load of "Effects" neatly packaged into one convenient Effect. Wonder when Davinci Resolve will create a Skill/Talent/Ability Effect to counter my limited skills when attempting to grade? đ€Łđ€Ł
Surely only an idiot will keep paying a certain global Photo and Editing company a monthly ransom, just to keep using their editing applications, when Resolve can offer so much more for the equivalent of just 12 months renting/subscription/ransom fee?
This is kind of that tool ha! Even I've been able to create looks that I really like, super quickly too and I'm definitely not a colourist!
I am still that idiot currently for Photoshop ha BUT, currently in the process of switching over to Affinity finally!
@@MrAlexTech I went a different way and use DxO Photolabs for my RAW files and if I want to jazz things up then I use Luminar NEO. Both give better results that Lightroom.
Have you tried the film looks on raw photo files?
Not with RAW images yet, but i have used it on some standard photos and it works well. You could definitely use it to edit your photos!
@@MrAlexTech Wil give it a shot. Waiting for the beta to end
When with 19 be let loose? I dont mean any beta version (I learned a long time ago the never DL any beta for risk of loosing everything)
waiting for 19......
Evrey Da Vinci youtuber has different audio sponsor i noticed, funny.
So is Davince Resolve 19 out of beta? And how do you actually update Davinci Resolve without your existing projects disappearing? I haven't managed this yet, my projects always disappear. This is why I'm always reluctant to update Davinci Resolve. It still baffles me why Davinci Resolve always has to fully deĂŻnstall and install, and not just update. It also makes the downloads unnecessary large.
DaVinci just made their own version of DehancerâŠ
One node to rule all the others. đ
đđđȘ
it makes your footage dark and grainy but i guess if that's watcha going for
Seems odd to not be able to save presets. I get the workarounds, but it does seem odd to me.
Yeaaah, it would be good. I think it's just a limitation of the Openfx plugins. As you can't do it in any other plugin either. But totally agree, it would waaaay easier if you could.
Side note... You probably could if you built something using the Film Look Creator in Fusion but it would alot slower
How can I add noise to make the 16 and 8 mil more interesting?
There's noise controls so you can increase the size and amount of the grain.
You didn't include wide gamut under color management. Would've been helpful? Otherwise, good video
I figured it was a little too deep. I did think about it but I figured, those that are already using CSTs into DWG probably already know what they're doing so don't need any further insight from little ol' me
how many crashes you get making a video like this on beta software?
Zerooooo. Beta 1 was a bit of a mess, but its been solid since Beta 2!
Omigosh. I love this guy. đđ Marry me, please??
Another Ah-Meh-Zing video đ
Frist! First also!
FRISTTT! đ
Alex please leave your wife and marry me :)
I got so much help from your videos, thank you man!
21 minutes is long for ONE tool
That's what she said. Wayoo
Colour*
Note: Americans aren't too stupid to realise that you are British, making videos in England, and so using the British spelling of "colour" won't offend them.
Note: "colour is the preferred spelling in the commonwealth countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, and many more", Not everything in the entire universe was made for muricans, despite what they think.
Blackmagic are Australian but it's still the Color Page, Color Space Transform and Color Slicer. I've no emotional attachment to the U in colour so I'm easy either way tbf (or feart of offending the Yanks! American Bartender anyone?! đ). I used to make a joke out of it years ago, but that got pretty old pretty quickly đ
Nothing to see here, move on now, let's be having you..
It just destroys a perfectly natural look. Whatâs the point of it. Footage looks like cheap Instagram filters
Do you favour the natural look of log? đ
Another useless tool... You can do all this stuff in color correction page, with basic tools. I don't like it when a tool has 1000500 ways to do the same thing. It's duplication and complication without a reason. Yes, it may be difficult for beginners to understand that you can adjust the same exposure with wheels or on a graph. But once you figure it out, you work with it.
Great overview đ keep it up
This is a dumb question but, how did you set up your fusion Page with the nodes on the right like that?
