- A typically absurd Thai ad for propolis toothpaste that can be distinguished as a satire on stereotypes, but can also be seen as just plain racist. See which side of the spectrum you're on. Directed by Suthon Petchsuwan at Matching Studio.
- Zábava
god don't you just HATE it when you just wanna take a nap and suddenly turn into toothpaste
No, that's only if you're depressed
Man it always happens
Bro can't sleep
Imagine someone actually ended up being afraid to fall asleep because of this 💀
Happened to me once
I love how it goes from criticizing racism to endorsing it in no time
You missed the point. the point is that nothing should be judged by the color. Toothpaste can't be brown, people can be brown.
@@iKingRPG you mean you shouldn't judge a book by its cover?
@@Bats_Are_My_Life their wording was confused but they still got the concept
i feel like depicting black people as being able to just like, climb light poles like apes is pretty racist, even if it's more subtly
@@itsguidry8125 anyone can climb. This is not really the racist part, it's more the parent judging him without getting all the facts (possibly based on his skin color)
I think it's a good ad with a strong message. You should not judge people just because they have a different skin color than what you're used to, and so also with toothpaste.
Agreed.
Lol😂
Love no that’s racism
I think you had a great point
Nope, the whole point is to keep loving despite people being hateful. THATS WHY HE HAS SO MANY BALLOONS IN HIS ROOM! BECAUSE HE KEEPS TRYING.

I think you nailed it right here. What a wonderful message, but what a bizarre way to show it.

Do you want to know the closest way to rewatch it? Watch it with somebody else, for their first time.
for any anyone who think this is racist. the phrase is literally translate to "don't judge a book by its cover"
and for the context, herbal toothpaste is usually come in black or brown so to many people weren't dare to try it out of fear or doubt with "why does it look so different than conventional toothpaste?", "why is it black or brown not white?", "it looks dirty". hence the "don't judge a book by its cover" at the end of the ads.
thats honestly a sweet message

His last goal in life was to brighten people's teeth and freshen their breath.
I cant imagine how terrible must be a black man going to bed depressed and turning into a tooth paste...
This commercial is beautiful and really sad for me, its good that an ad comes with a message this beautiful. Anyone who wrote this ad should be given an award.
This is one of those things you remember and start cackling about while taking a pee and then when you leave the bathroom someone asks "Why were you laughing???" and you have to explain the whole thing to them.

The commercial is sad, and hilarious at the same time.
Anyone who has spent time in SEA or even India or Asia knows that racism is normalised as hell there... And pretty much they all judge the hell out of anyone with darker skin...the darker you are the lower down the chain you are...
I'm not endorsing it in anyway it's messed up... Just saying why this commercial makes sense to certain parts of the world (sadly)
prove it
It comes drom low self esteem. They associate their own darker skin in contrast with white skin to be inferior because they face racism from white people. Their primitive and natural reaction is to continue to cycle and discriminate people with even darker skin.

iam thai and i will explaine about this ads
in thailand back to 10-20 year not more people from african much more like to day
and thai people dont have culture of racist black skin we dont bully or racist about color of skin foreigner (but thai people will bully thai brown skin only it so sad LOL)
because thai people in real life we scare of stanger like in ads when our children met stanger
so in ads, point is stanger is foreigner and it rare to see in normal day
now the topic about why "black"
because twin lotus is toothpaste and it only one color is black
twin lotus is ancient recipe toothpaste, them try to show how good is inside not outside or color
and all toothpaste i know in thailand is white color so it rare and hard to belive and first to try black toothpaste
that the point it not about racist black skin
i hope foreigner will understand people who make ads and his culture before judge and get the true point of ads

@@who7237 same reason to why you Americans come to tropical beaches to get some tan, same reason, different objectives.
Other than "skin whitening cream", UV-A blocking sunscreen also sells here.
@@who7237 I have two theories on the perceptions, the non-racist theory is just merely humans want something that is "rare", so that's why western people want to get tanned and asians (especially Southeast or South) want to be white
The "racist" theory is, if in the western perception being tanned = more time under the sun = more active = more healthy, then in the asian perception being tanned = more time under the sun = blue collar worker = come from poorer background, the asian perception is already here for hundreds of years, back in the medieval times the difference is obvious, royal princess will definitely have silk white skin because she rarely gets the sun, always get sheltered, compared to the farmer boys that can only dream of her.
Or, it could be a combination of pursuing rarity and racism.

"Don't judge a book by its cover": This was the message the ads tried to convey.
Context: This ads was 20+years old. It addressed "prejudiced" based on appearance of people occurred during 80's.
- The bro in the ads, was a kind-heart man, he helped the girl and notice that the girl didn't afraid of him. However, her mother instead afraid of him (as he is a bro). Hidden clue? kids didn't care about colors, they were taught to bias...
- The ads was about a herbal toothpaste, which was a dark color whereas most of the toothpaste at that time (even now) is white. Like many said the toothpaste its was subjected to prejudice in the same context as the bro's skin color.
- the what the subtitle "Appearance can be deceiving" means it this context of "don't judge a book by its cover".
Note: In the 70's 80's, western media had a fair shared of these "prejudices" exported to Asian countries, strengthening any bias already exists toward out-groups.
This is like something ai would make these days.
