"The older I get, my childhood seems sweeter and sweeter" is a good line. And a familiar sentiment. Nice video--
That must be nice. Every time i reflect on my childhood i just realize why i have so many issues.
I wish I could share the sentiment.
Relatable. Amazing how much gaming technology has evolved over the years and yet so much has still been left in the console graveyard or lost media zone
I understand and feel you. The more I learn from other's childhood, I realize how wrong was mine.
All those days that came and went. Little did i know that they were life
This mans enthusiasm and love for gaming always makes me happy. Been watching for years but it never gets old
Same!
On the topic of Zelda Four Swords Adventures; I remember keeping all the cardboard boxes for my N64/Gamecube games, but one day they were gone and i didn't really notice. When i did eventually, i asked my parents where they were and i don't think they even really knew so we assumed we had thrown them away. Fast forward like a decade when my dad was cleaning the garage, he found a big cardboard box high up on a shelf. In it were all of my N64 game boxes, big boxes for some of my Gamecube games (Including Four Swords), and the boxes of some of my home and hand held consoles like the Dreamcast and gameboy colors. Now all my games have their original boxes from back then.
I have noticed in the last couple years that it’s often cheaper to buy on eBay than the local stores.
Isn’t that wild?
Also the fact it's usually cheaper to buy a physical Switch game over the Digital release is ridiculous.
@@TheKayliedGamerChannel-CZcams Well that’s been true since the inception of digital! There are hundreds of PS4 games cheaper physically than digitally.
Sucks you can't support your local game stores anymore cause they no longer have sales and the prices are silly
Panzer Dragoon Saga (on the Saturn) is the game I wished it was available on modern platforms
I love how when talking about Rival Schools United by Fate and the joy it gave you, you casually threw in how you beat Rob's ass in it and it brought you more joy lol. Great show!
Yeah I wonder how different Rob's review would be haha 😂
Rival schools is one of my classic ps1 game memories and no one else ever knows what it is.
Someone stole my super metroid back in the day I still get mad sometimes when I think about it.
My favorite time of the week! Sunday morning, pancakes, and a new happy console gamer episode
Agreed!
I completely agree with the nostalgia comment Johnny! I’m a gamer in my late 40’s. Amazing video and I used to jam Rival Schools daily when I worked at Funcoland with my buddies. My holy grail game is Dragon Force on the Sega Saturn. I definitely regret losing that game during a tough time in my life. Amazing video. Thank you Johnny!!!
"I know where every game is"
Particularly Double Dungeons
Johnny, I'm a long-time viewer and I just wanted to say that no one has been able to capture the essence of nostalgia like you have. I watch your videos and boom, I'm back to my childhood again. I aways look forward to your next video. Thank you for your time and effort you put into these videos, and thank you.
This is why I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for 13 years. These videos really speak to my passion for video games and all the fond memories I have playing games over the years. Honestly man, thank you for making videos like this.
Man I loved your segment on Last Alert. Taping the box to your wall…! Amazing story and sentiment
That why emulation is important for preserving them regardless what people say
I was really hoping to see you wear a Sherlock hat while holding a giant magnifying glass
Thank God someone finally talking about rival schools and how impossible it is to actually have a physical copy. I remember renting this for my local Blockbuster all the time and I’ve been wanting it ever since and it looks like that will never happen.
Good hanging this weekend man. Had been far too long ❤
Great seeing you guys again! It’s been too long!
1:37 Rival Schools: United by Fate (PS1)
3:19 Shining Force (Sega Genesis)
4:58 Last Alert (TurboGrafx)
7:20 The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure (GameCube)

9:55 Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Neo Geo)

Johnny out here dropping hints for Christmas.
I totally remember Rival Schools! It was a lot of fun to play!
Skies of Arcadia.. toooo expensive, remaster please XD. Love you Johnny :)
Owned Skies of Arcadia on DC and never finished it. It’s criminal that it never got rereleased. I know it’s on GameCube, i mean a HD release.
@@patrickmurphy9470 i seen that RPG game at a thrift store for only $10 bucks! Even though i don't really play RPGS like that i should have brought it!
@@patrickmurphy9470everone loves and but never finished it, I’m not even that good at games and finished it
@@lorekinyinI've finished it three times. I know the load times for random battles get tiresome, but I can't believe that that many people are boring of the game midway through.
How have we never met or skated together. I graduated Seaquam '91. I had George Shimizu, skated launch ramps behind Safeway, had a bike stolen at Honeybee, and loved my Sega Master system. Iv seen pics of my old classmate Ashley Vince in one of your videos
Damn I remember my friend having that wolves fighting game. I always wondered what it was called for many years. And now here you mentioned it! I screamed literally! Thnax Johnny! I hope those games find you! Awesome episode!
I was so into fighting games as a teenager and loved playing fighting games I knew nothing about
It was a pleasure meeting you at Game On Expo! Great panel too!
Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the PS2 is one game missing from my collection that I would like to have.
Pull the trigger when you see it I bought a scratcher got 100 them went to game store paid 220 for it totally worth it been on it trying to unlock all characters
Very cool! I love that game. I did see it this weekend at that 220 price but my wallet couldn’t handle it. Some day…some day.
Trade you Pokèmon: Emerald for it 😊
@@otterdonnelly9959 only got sapphire
"what are some games missing from your collection?"
He asks ominously..
Why, what did you take, WHAT DID YOU STEAL FROM ME?!?
How else would he know that my entire saturn collection is gone?
I wish owned the original panzer dragoon games for the sega Saturn.
I have Saga but I lost the case 😭
That game goes for a few thousand now with the case
I only the first II wish I would have bought Saga
I've pirated it today and can't believe I'm now playing it!
@budgiecat9039 I used to love watching the Saga cut scenes.
@@StanDaMan4487 speaking of which did you download Samurai Shodown RPG for NeoGeoCD yet. It's in English now.
Listening to you talk about retro games across so many genres and eras is so much fun and has been for the last decade lol thank you
I would cut up the Turbo boxes and slide them in a jewel case for the games that didn't come with one.🤦♂ It seemed like a great idea at the time.🤣
I used to tear the first page of CD booklet to put them all organized and pretty, in a binder...😅
Yes I remember Rival Schools! I sold my copy last year when faced with some financial hardship along with some cherished TG16 games. My wife bought my Street Fighter 2 Turbo mint in box, and to my total shock bought BACK my Rival Schools and Blazing Lasers (one of the two I sold). I straight up cried. So much love I can't express here. I have such found memories back in the day with this since it was my og copy
I've never personally found the plain label of the PS1 port of Road Rash. Only saw the platinum version
You mean greatest hits version?
Finding a jewel case version is even trickier.
I still have that original Genesis box. It's been sitting in my closet for over 30 years. I've kept every new console box I've ever bought. I'm crazy nostalgic like that.
Im no stranger of getting my games stolen. I went camping with my family and my sister stayed home and threw a party. When I came home every nes SNES and Sega came and console was gone. I was absolutely devastated
Capcom has been hitting home runs lately, here’s to a rival schools Dino crisis power stone remasters
They need to localize E.X. Troopers and Rival Schools 2.
Sorry for ur loss 🙏🏽 prayers to you and ur family
It´s so funny that you started right up with Rival Schools, Johnny because I miss it too. The strange thing is that I had owned it but strangelly I have only Disc 2 of it now. I don´t know what happened to the Box or Disc 1 ( I suggest my little Brother had it´s Finger in this Mistery)?
Shining Force, such nostalgia. It's amazing that I haven't played that game in decades and when I heard the music I immediately started humming to it. It's amazing how much information our brains are able to retain.
I was right there with you on that! Christmas morning 1989 I got the NES Power Glove (that I hardly ever played) and the Sega Genesis with Altered Beast. Me and my brother played it all day! A day I'll never forget!
Another astounding Sunday video.
Always thought-provoking and full of introspection. You stay on my mind and provoke questions about video games(whenever I'm alone on walks, I think about this stuff and how it relates).
Thanks for your consistency each Sunday.
As a person living with Autism, your dependability on Sunday(scheduling) is an asset to my life, and a huge benefit to the weekend's mental health.
It's exciting seeing you each Sunday(always anticipated).
Grateful.
A couple NES games I rarely see that I’d love to grab are “Arkista’s Ring” and “Univited”.
Awesome 😊
The problem is now the game shops are charging around eBay or just a little lower prices. They've comparitive priced things.
Yeah. My local shop charges the upper tier of ebay prices on a lot of boxed games. I find better deals on ebay the vast majority of the time.
There's plenty missing from my collection, but I got really lucky back in the mid 2000's to get my hands on a mint condition Panzer Dragoon Saga for like... $180 USD. After a quick burn of the discs it sits enshrined in my cabinet.
In the 90s i remember going into a second hand shop and seeing copies of primal rage for 32x and the virgin megastores at the time and they had copies of pal panzer dragoon saga when it had released....i wish i got many copies lol
I am happy I still have that trivial school for my ps1 still in good condition too and all my other ps1 games still got all of them
My cousin and I had a pact that when games came with 2 "versions" in the case, we'd split them. There weren't many, but Rival Schools and Gran Turismo 2 were games that did. He wasn't much of a "story" kind of guy, so he got the Arcade disc for Gran Turismo and Rival Schools and I kept the simulation and story mode discs.
Th home run derby in rival schools was the ish
I love these retro gaming channels and this is one of my favorites. This and the MJR fam
The last game I needed to finish the Dreamcast set the last 2 years was Plasma Sword. I got almost everything locally over the last 15 years. I gave up finding Plasma Sword locally and finally ordered online from a user on a gaming forum.
Tail Concerto. It went for about $100 pre-Covid but now it's price has quadruple. I'll never own a copy now.
I remember seeing it back in the day all the time in EB games and I never got around to buying it for like 14 bucks. I can kick myself.
@@thenuclearsandwich I picked up a copy of Silent Hill for $40 October 2019. At the time I thought I overpaid but it was Halloween and I wanted a spooky game. Now it goes for about $200 and I'm so grateful I got it then.
I have a complete in box Shining Force. Picked it up in Pennsylvania
Capcom should make a Fighting Collection Vol.2, only their 3D fighting games. Star Gladiator, Plasma Sword, Rival Schools, Project Justice, Tech Romancer, Power Stone 1 & 2.. Street Fighter EX games could be included, but Capcom would have to talk to Arika first.
These games will always be treasures. That era was MAGIC
A mate of mine of a snes with a load of classic games all boxed etc. He still lived at home yet his mother gathered them all up and put them in a charity shop. To say he went off his nut is an understatement. Hes still trying to get terraminga at a decent price.
Nice video Johnny. One game that I used to have for my Saturn was Panzer Dragoon Saga. Love to see it remade for ps5 or Switch
I remember buying Panzer Dragoon Saga on launch day at Babbages. They only got a small box of 6 copies and I got the 1st one. I absolutely adore that game and sadly sold it almost 2 decades ago when I was in between jobs and desperate for cash. I would have never sold it if I knew the years and years of regret I would have forever. Makes me sad to this day. It's an excellent game and of course I had no idea how expensive and rare it would become. A lesson learned.
Zombies ate my neighbors for me, I had both snes and sega originals. I have the new collectors edition for ps4 but I’d love those old ones
I agree, the Sega Genesis introduction blew everyone away. Thanks for the video.
Hope you had a great time in Arizona 😮
I have a copy of Rival Schools complete, remembered I got it for like 10 buck brand new on a second hand market, I played it whit my brother and father at the arcades
My TurboGrafx-16 manuals for Dead Moon, Ninja Spirit, Bomberman 93’, Bonk 3, New Adventure Island & Magical Chase all went missing. I located them in a box marked Virtual Boys when I went to check to see if my Virtual Boys had the issues where the ribbon cables detach from the LED panels. Those manuals had been in that box for about 2 decades! It was at that moment I recalled putting the manuals in that box when I was packing up to move because all the other TG-16 items were already packed up.
For me is Blazing Star for the Neo Geo, it's the game i hould love to have but the price is absurd.
Me too. I've only played on emulation and digital on switch amd ps4. It's one of my favorite Arcade side scrolling Shmups. The final boss is super absurd and I haven't seen another one like it
Another stupidly expensive side scrolling shmup for Neo Geo is Razion.
@@redmage8719 Razion is not an original neo geo game, it's NGdevTeam game and it's more recent right? I think they make batches from time to time
@@nvc. You're thinking of Razion EX.
@@redmage8719 No, razion ex is the nintendo switch version..
Wow, a strange remix/cover of “Children” by Robert Miles as background music at the beginning of this video (00:38 onwards). Was it extracted from a videogame? Just curious :)
It's Rock's stage music in Mark of the Wolves
@@omegaweapon116 Thanks!! I had no idea. A surprising decision by SNK!
Awesome video and really great games in this one. Really fun topic and super cool! Great work man!
You have some awesome memories Jon!
Rival schools was way ahead of its time
I so wish i could have gotten Earthbound and Chrono Trigger when i was a wee lad.
Props on the Children cover playing in the background ❤
That's the song for Rock's stage in Mark of the Wolves. You're right though. It's a cover of Children
Respect to you for the Graveyard Goods shirt! They just did an X-Files one but you bet I bought all the RE ones for my cousin and I. So sick.
Here in Mexico, sadly going to ebay has being my go to game shop because the games that I’ve found out most of the time comes pretty beat up and in bad state, and people selling them, “yeah man! it has a lot of scuff and dent but I assure it’s fully functional”.
And on top of that they want to charge a hefty amount because here in Mexico everyone, everyone had the ps1 modchip so, a lot of your common games in United States, back here are sold like holy grails.
And sadly that’s the retro game scene out here.
NES Version GBA SP. Bought it new kept it mint in Box. Traded it towards Forza Motorsport for Original Xbox at EB Games. And it didn't even near cover the game cost. That still haunts me.
This is why i love paired games. You can get whatever you like. ❤ especially older games without keeping a massive collection of plastic and paper boxes.
It was so awesome meeting you at Game On Expo! Hope to see you next year!
Love the video game version of Children by Robert Miles in the background
Yes! Rival Schools... sooooo good. Had so much fun... wonder where my original copy is.
That's the thing, keeping the cardboard boxes was considered nuts for Turbo and every non-plastic shell boxes for any console like the NES/SNES/N64. I only kept the cardboard for the games I absolutely loved. Some of those disappeared on me too. That feeling of having a great game swiped from you is just haunting.
I went the eBay route for Rival Schools and got the Japanese version for like $20 USD. Couldn't be happier. Loved hearing your stories.
I'm thinking about getting Rival Schools 2 that was only released in Japan with those two extra characters from Project Justice
Great video! I had a cousin bruglarize my parents house in 2000 and he took all of my collection. We're talking Earthbound CIB w/stickers, Chrono Trigger CIB, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy CIB, all of the special Blockbuster snes games like Final Fight Guy, Starfox Weekend, DKC Competition, etc. To this day I do not speak to that guy!
2 years ago I gave up on collecting physical copies of retro games, due to the prices, and got Flashcarts and ODE for my consoles. It was a bit sad, but I just couldn't afford getting more games in physical form anymore...
Man, seeing Rival Schools is rare in wild. Only time I saw it at a game store was back in 2014 and it just the disc and third party jewel case!
Hey Johnny, it will be very awesome if you make an room tour episode, talking about some games, books, vinils, collections, etc. The longer the better 😊
You're one of the few Gaming channels to mention Cadash, I subbed to the channel way back when I saw you get the arcade cabinet... One of my all time favorite games, I'm so glad it's available on the Switch...
One Sega Genesis franchise no one talks about is Vectorman. Classic.
I definitely wish I had played Rival Schools. I guess that is the origin of Sakura? I loved the 3D Street Fighter game that I played, and I do not know why in the world they are still making them 2D.
Shinging Force is great
Man I love playing Rival Schools. All the mini games , the character design. Definitely on my bucket list of games to get.
I was 16 years old and working at Lucky's Supermarket. I used my first 2 paychecks to buy the Sega Genesis at launch with 2 games Space Harrier 2 and last battle. I took the game magazines with me to work so I could fantasize about playing it before launch. Sadly, I don't own it anymore.
I once had the opportunity, back when my local rental store was shutting down, to buy their SNES copy of Killer Instinct which I had rented dozens of times. I passed it up in favour of more recent games on more modern systems, and even though I've since bought and own a copy of KI, I still sort of regret not buying that one specific copy.
I had Rival Schools on dreamcast and played so much against my cousin. Thanks for reminding me of that
Happy Sunday 😎✌️
Downtown Toronto there's a really good vintage game store. Walked in and found wind waker and shining force, both mint and complete. They were 90 cad a piece but it was worth it.
Where I live, there aren’t any video games’ stores. I wish there were. We did have one but it closed down due to the extortionate rent. Such a shame.
Thanks for the video, Johnny. All the games I bought for Gameboy, SNES, N64 and PC growing up... I threw away all the boxes. Never even had a second thought about it. So oblivious. Oh well!
I used to throw them all away too. All of them except my Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games for some reason.
I got Rival Schools for Christmas the year it came out. It was honestly a random buy from my mom. I had never heard of it, but fell in love with it. It did however get stolen a couple years later. I own it again now. But man it was way more expensive
it sucks when things grow legs and walk off.
I have Rival Schools currently on my modded PSTV. Well worth grabbing one of those amazing little devices if you can find one.
I bought rival schools at a local game store it was $110 but I traded my magic the gathering cards that spiked in value so I basically got it for free
My biggest shame is that I once had a bid accepted on a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga in amazing condition for £200. It was the most I'd ever spent on a video game but I got spooked and decided to back out at the last minute. Jokes on me now because PAL copies go for upwards of £700!
A beautiful topic and an amazing video. I have a holy grail that I think will be easy. But has eluded me so far. A complete in box Final Fantasy II on SNES.
Your shirts are always sick! The RE2 hoodie is awesome.
I'm glad that I managed to find Splatterhouse for the PS3 for a somewhat reasonable price of 40 euros a few months ago. I saw it in a gaming store when it was still quite new for a couple of times, and when I realized that I need to have it, it was gone. Never found it since after recently
"I know where every game is"
Particularly Dynamite Dux
My big miss was a boxed & complete Stack Up for NES. They used to be around £200-300 when I was in university, so I thought that when I got a job I would be able to finally get it. By the time I did they had quintupled in price, and now they are north of £2k (if you can even find them).
In reverse, my greatest find was a complete Shantae for only £150 about 6 or 7 years ago :)
There's still a lot missing in my collection, but I have The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures in a big box. 🙂
