Remember seeing Moondog 'performing' on the street in front of Black Rock (don't think it was called that then) back in '68. Love your attitude and mindset, Herb.
Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all the latest series on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend lately :)
Correction, Vikings didn`t have horn helmets. That one was invented by Hollywood. Herb is very fascinating to listen to. He capture you with his calm voice.
Ha! I did black and white for 30 years but recently abandoned that cause as I've aged it's become confusing. Also male and female are now grouped together alphabetically.
In the years around 1962 or 63, I saw Sun Ra on two occasions. The first was at a loft with an audience of about 20 people. Having never heard of him before this evening, it was an unusual experience. There were about 11 musicians in the group playing sounds with no rhythm, no melody, chords, or much color. I guess my ears weren't ready. About a year later, I went to a benefit that I believe was at the Village Vangard. The Arkestra played and was not connecting with the crowd until Rhassan Rolin Kirk walked on the stage and started blowing! Suddenly it all came together!!
Herb explains the appeal of Sun Ra is perfect! It's just how I feel about his music... there's some novelty and some magic to it. I can't believe that you Ken aren't hip to his music. I figure that if you're heavy into jazz, you would have checked out RA...
Wow, what a start to the video epic music and the sun is shining. I know of Sun Ra but not much about him. He is a piano player and he lived in New York City for a while I believe. I could not name any of his music. Moondog who? Very interesting always nice to get a different take on music. You are lucky Ken to call him a friend. Do you like Gil Scott-Heron? Space is the place👍
By label - yup, gonna do that too.
ThxK 💎🖌️
Still rebelling Herb!?
Good stuff here. The original Sunra stuff is expensive and is hard to find. There are a ton of reissues out now.
My dream is a lost Sun Ra and Moondog colaboration...

This was brilliant - thank you! What was the opening piece you played at the beginning of PT 3?
