I've actually heard this song on the speaker when I was working at the grocery store EVERY SINGLE DAY!! 😂
Back in the mid to late '60's the Temptations were considered one of the best male group around. I saw them in concert at the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles in 1969.
This was actually written by Smokey Robinson & Former Fellow Miracle Ronnie White. The Guitar that you hear is by Robert White (RIP). He wrote alot of their other hits like The Way You Do The Things You Do, Get Ready, Beauty's Only Skin Deep, and I Know I'm Losing You. These guys were a major influence on The Jackson Five and in England and Australia they are National Treasures.

The Apollo Theatre is in the Harlem part of Manhattan, NY. Its not a completely black area anymore..
I saw the Temptations sing this song on stage when Lyndon Johnson announced he would not run again.

I've heard Smokey say that he wrote it with David in mind, not that he wrote it for the Miracles.
