- I went searching for the real Cannonball Run... and found it
Started to protest the 55mph speed limit in the 1970’s by Car & Driver Editor Brock Yates, the Cannonball Baker Sea to Sea Memorial Dash was a pedal to the metal, non-stop, coast to coast endurance race from New York City to Los Angeles. Drivers would punch a clock at the Red Ball Garage on E. 31st Street in Manhattan and cross the finish line at the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles. A distance of nearly 3,000 miles.
The modern equivalent is now The 2904. Named for the distance between Manhattan and San Francisco, The 2904 is a cross between the 24 Hours of Lemons ($500 car endurance race series on a closed road course) and the Cannonball Run. You have to buy a car, pay for fuel, tolls, food and tickets for less than $2904. Any modifications or repairs to the cars drivetrain count against the budget as well. But like the 24 Hours of Lemons, any safety related items are outside that budget leaving unlimited funds to fix suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, seats, lights and any additional fuel system you might want to add to extend the cars range.
In early 2015 The 2904 decided to make one last event and run it on the classic Cannonball route from the Redball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach California. It was my chance to fulfill a lifelong dream of running the REAL Cannonball!
Armed with a quarter million mile ex Police car/taxi cab and a 74 gallon fuel capacity, I went head to head with the biggest names in modern Cannonball history. With a time of 33 hours 3 minutes, this old jalopy became the 6th fastest car to do the 2800+ mile race in history.

Smart idea using a crown Vic
you could probably get away with an even faster run using a firechief spec new Ford Explorer cruiser. Fire captains aren't on Police radio normally, so cops seeing one speed by will usually just assume it's a firefighter instead of getting on the radio to ask.
What an amazing run. Well done team.
And now you are #1! Congrats 🎊
That how I would spend a holiday in America, 100%!!
this would be a great quarentine passtime
Congrats on the new record 27:25
the cannonball got crazy this year you need average 130mph to beat it now
Was that a stock engine/trans? How many fuel stops? I've had 3 CVPI's and loved them all!
In another vid he said it was an ex cop car and taxi with over 200k miles on the engine and also 3 fuel stops.
I should try this for quarantine
Awesome run
Well done, guys! The Crown Vic is ex police, yeah?
Yes, ex-police and former taxi cab
What are they looking for with the binoculars? Does it really help that much to spot police in the distance, or are they looking for other things as well?
Looking for police mostly, deer, accidents, etc etc , anything that would slow them down....
They are all done running the 2904 right?
In your interview with vin wiki you look exactly like ike barinholtz
is it impossible to do a run with the check engine light of ? There are not many videos with real cannonbal footage but in all of the cars, the MIL is on .. Cat´s removed ?
Awsome
59:40
The record is 31:59.... when did you do this?
John Hurd the recored is actually 28 hours 50 minutes
@@destoryerofworlds657 And Arne has since lowered that to 25 hours 39 minutes.
I could do that same running my crown Vic in less than 30 hours I could probably do it in 15
Lol
Unbelievable how dangerous this was! What if you ran over a baby!
The baby would be honored to be part of the record books.
Ehh whatever, truckers do this solo with 22 tons one their back.
What a ridiculous thing this cannonball run is. Not to mention dangerous. You guys seriously averaged 85 miles an hour. The fastest I’ve gone is 90 for a short spurt. You sped across the country. Next time fly.
Go cry and bitch somewhere else. awesome job guys.
If 90 is the fastest you've gone, you must've driven a 50HP car.
See YOU may not be comfortable with driving fast for long distances but we are, and modern cars can safely cruise at 85/90.
You do understand that the whole point of the cannonball is to see how fast you can get from coast to coast IN A CAR (or motorcycle) do you think these guys were speeding because they needed to make an appt. or something or were you trying to make a joke when you said to fly?
They set a new record at 25 hours 39 min and an average speed of around 110 mph.
