Great timing on this video! I'm just starting round 2 of destash/declutter (round 1 was early summer) . Loved your process! It's gotta get worse before it gets better!
Thanks for sharing and providing much needed encouragement. I'm setting a planner/notebook/stationary budget for 2023 in hopes of being more thoughtful with future purchases.

I really enjoyed your video and that we got to go through this journey together. I lost my youngest son this summer to a long running terminal illness. Throughout this journey I began to realize some things. One is living intentionally. It really resonated with me that you are starting on an intentional journey early in life. This is a very good thing. Oddly enough sometimes I do things “ unintentionally”, with intention. So I guess what I am saying is follow your path, but allow yourself things that bring joy regardless of your intentions. At the end of my son’s life (he was 20), he still managed to bring joy to others and enjoy the simple things that he could. He truly lived with grace. My wish for you is that you gift yourself and your husband, now and in the future, with this grace and do it intentionally.
    Sincerely, Shannon Sims

Seeing you declutter just inspired me to do the same at home! I had the chance to buy a home, alone, last year :) And I have SO MUCH stuff!!! I need to declutter and give/sell things. Your video just made me do a giant to-do list! So, a big thank you :)

Thanks for this video. Whenever I get really into a new hobby I tend to want to collect everything that goes with it. But I think that being intentional about bringing stuff into your home is a natural next step once you start to figure out what's working for you. Great job going through everything!
I try to be intentional about buying new things by really thinking about how it will fit into my home and my life. I've also started to be more mindful about where I spend my money in the hopes that it will go on to fund things that align with my values.

I try to plan intentionally by going back to notebooks that have space and using them for scraps! Also, it really satisfies me when I have an empty sticker sheet, so I use that as motivation for when I can purchase another 😊 thanks for doing a giveaway, was super satisfying and inspiring watching you declutter ❤

  • @yrlocalrabbi

I love that you're thinking about your consumption and carbon footprint as a content creator! I spend a lot of time balancing in between "I want all the things!!!" and "but will I actually USE the thing". My current purchasing practice is to make sure I know about every single one of my supplies so when I purchase something new I can honestly answer how it will help support my planning practice. I also know that when I actually use something up fully (sticker sheet, pen, etc), I feel so much more lasting fulfillment than when I get a new pen or other planner supplies. But with all of that said, Black Friday is still going to be the biggest challenge because...all of the pretties go on sale!

I try to be intentional by limiting myself to the physical space I have reserved for planning. I have a rainbow cart from my teaching days and recently went through and sorted all my loose stickers into drawers by category, and it really helped me see what I do or don't need. I am also trying to give each notebook a potential purpose and use more of my stationary to accomplish personal goals like making gratitude and relationships important parts of my life.

  • @ElaniaG

I love a good declutter! 😄 One of the ways I try to be intentional is by only purchasing what I know suits my style. After many years in the planner community, I have a good grasp on what I always reach for. So I no longer try it, just to buy it, if I know it's not my vibe (Leopard print, I'm looking at you). Yes, I'll get creative here and there, but mostly I stick to my go to patterns, like stripes and florals.

Great video! I am on a decluttering journey as well. I try and be intentional with planner purchases by only shopping for a new planner once a year, and only keeping a small box for my washi. Since I started doing that I use my washi more and its more fun to purchase new washi when I can actually “see” it being used up in the little box. Awesome job on all the hard work, I am the same way and have to start with a big pile lol 😅

I try to be intentional with things that we buy in such a way that we don’t have repeats, and they’ll be used, and it doesn’t make the space too overwhelming and it can still be kept under control. Dana K White has an amazing system of decluttering. I highly suggest checking out her channel and podcast, “a slob comes clean”. Great job with reducing your stash! ❤

I try to be intentional with my planner supplies by evaluating what I actually use.. because I find I'm a sticker collector that never uses them so I've started to put in a rule in place to only buy what I will actually use. My intent is to really deck out my 2023 planners.
It would be so fun to do a round robin but you have to trust the people that are doing it.... you load things into a box, send it to someone and then they take things out they want and add things in they don't want and send it to the next person. You could also do an online silent auction.. people bid on photos and the highest bid, wins.

My way to be intentional is that use absolutely EVERYTHING until the end, washi/stickers no sticky anymore - I put glue or double tape on them. Weekly stickers kit - I will intentionally use half of the boxes so one kit can be used twice, etc etc

  • @thehipchickplannergirl9729

❤️ the video. You think you have a lot of stickers. You are very minimal on stickers, I have 12 sticker binders ( the 3 ring binders that you can find at walmart) plus several of the smaller binders. The pen spinning thing next to your washi tape, where'd you get that? Is it EC? I need something like that to store pens to sit on my desk. I organize like you. My husband and I recently took a Sunday School director position, we just recently started going to the church ( a really small church) and the storage room is a complete disaster so I pulled everything out and it's all over the floor and I'm having to slowly go thru everything cause I'm not sure what is there. And it's going to take me a few months to get it all organized, see what I can keep, what to throw away and what I need to buy. I'm not able to work on it very often cause of other stuff I have to do.

I am intentional in two ways. First, I will place things that I like in my cart and I will wait at least a couple of weeks. After that, if I am still desiring the items in the cart then I will purchase them at that point. I will even wait until the hype for those items or that FOMO feeling die down as well. Second, I will ask myself two questions about this purchase. Why do I need it? and Do I love it in the space I intend it to go in? This is for those things that I seriously feel that I have to purchase right away. I have to have the space for it and I have to love it. I am trying to do my best to only invite the things that I need and love in my home because I feel that I will take care of it better and I will actually use it. I am learning that if I can stick with this, then my life and most importantly my wallet (okay my husband wallet as well LOL) will thank me.

And I truly started planning seriously this year but my oh my, as I was looking for next year's planner somehow I ended up with 3 undated ones and a happy planner mini from 2021 because it's Pocahontas, Rapunzel and Merida and I just couldn't resist and I found that we are going to "repeat" that calendar on 2027 soooo I just need 1 more to be set until that year 😅🙃 but I still find myself searching through for offers and things I would like to get once I get a chance🥲. This is so relatable. I just recently did a huge declutter/rehome of a lot of HP supplies, since I am not using them and changing systems completely. The biggest intent I am setting currently is to buy essentials only (like planner and bookmarks only) then as I use my new planner, buy only what I am actively missing or reaching for consistently. I am refusing to buy more stickers and accessories just because they're new and shiny for the upcoming year. I already have more than enough!
