  • If you're renovating, repairing, or painting a home, disturbing lead-based paint can be a serious health hazard for both children and adults. WxTV will take a look at the EPA and DOE-approved methods to test for lead paint at the job site.

    Still used in general aviation fuel (single engine prop jobs). Interesting to see what the level of people's blood is near these smaller airports. Used as a motor fuel in N. Korea, Yemen, Iraq, Algeria, and Afgh.

    The problem I have with all these tests is that by cutting it, aren't you disturbing the paint and therefore releasing lead dust into the environment? and will the lead dust continue to be released once you're done?

    I have red book shelf. My grandfather made some time ago. Easily before 1978. How does one check for lead with red paint? Ideas of removing or refinishing it if it is lead paint?

    As of 2024, apparently the 3M 'stick' style tests have been discontinued. I just paid $13 for a different instant test kit containing 2 small test sheets (1/2" x 1/2") and an empty eyedropper. Theoretically, you could cut the rest sheets in half to double your number of tests.

    Very informative video. There are still many products that use lead based paint (LBP). Toys manufactured in other countries that do not have regulations are a great concern. Toys often have brightly colored paints. However, a consumer should be able to simply call a lab to submit samples for analysis or find a lab like ours that have testing kits.

    very helpful video. Only problem I can think of, is there’s some customers out there that might complain or give you a bad review if you cut their home, sometimes even if you ask them first and they say yes they might still complain. Especially if they don’t end up liking your price. So I feel like this is kind of risky for residential
    What might be a better option, is finding an area the paint is *already* peeling, and just taking a chip off from that, so that way they can’t say you cut or damaged anything

    • @ItchyKneeSon
      @ItchyKneeSon Před 6 měsíci

      For something like this and a customer like that, a signed estimate with details on what you'll be doing is probably the way to go.

    I Have aquestion for whoever knows the best and who can answwere, i bought a huge silver chain , but it might be made in prison in 90's, i know how silver acts itself when it 925 or 999, but this chain gets dark while im wearing it, other similar or identical silver chains get more silvery and more bright, but this one gets darker in spots, what could that mean? i start to think that it might have a lead in it.

    • @kbc143
      @kbc143 Před 10 lety +3

      No, it can test through several layers. That's one of the things that makes it better than LeadCheck. Even though LeadCheck does allow for a few layers if you cut correctly, it's just not as efficient or as thorough as the x-ray fluorescence, which reads everything!

    #1- I guess you didn't go to school for lead testing other wise you would of known how to remove a paint chip sample with no sub-straight in it.
    #2- A XRF Gun to buy costs about 12 to $15,000.00 depending on the gun and buy half life (meaning 9 to 15 months) it will cost you from $1,000 to $3,500 to get a new inside part.
