The Daredevil spoons were a staple in every tackle box through the 50's and 60's. They came in assorted sizes and while red and white was the most common color they were offered in other colors. They worked. In the 70's more tackle and more places selling it sort of overran the Daredevils but they are still productive. Thank you for sharing your outings.
Still have more than a few in my tackle box ;)
@@TranslucentJuice they are timeless. Once the trend became glamorize successful lures then make them in dozens of varieties the original Daredevils fell out of favor. I like to say many modern lures are designed to catch the angler, not the fish.
They were one of the first spoons I ever used back in the 70's. Always had a couple different sizes in my tackle box.
Definitely one of the best Northern Pike lures ever made. Trolling edges of northern lakes and tossing these toward the shallows in the mornings and evenings was deadly.
@@darrenangle4493 I'll 2nd that. Daredevils are my favorite lure to use for Northern Pike on lakes in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Daredevil. Classic northern pike lure.
They were used for catching everything
One of my favorite lures
Yeah I slay pike on them especially the silver and blue
They crush walleye and bass on lake erie as do red eyes!
I have one that Ive painted at least 20 times
Because of teeth
I must say 618, you have inspired me to go back to live bait fishing. When I was a kid I'd take off walking to one of our pools with 4 or 5 poles, zebco 33s and cane poles with grasshoppers or liver and catch tons of catfish. Then when I was 12, my papaw taught me to bass fish with an ambassador 5000 and plastic worms. I'm 60 now and have been bass fishing all this time. Now I've got all my old poles out and cleaned up. Digging up some worms and being a kid again. Hehehe. Thanks dude.
Another instant classic. Nick's whole production is so astounding that you can watch an old video you've already seen and still be entertained. Thanks man
I love how the release camera shot for a fish is a up close slowed down vid of the fish heading back into the water, but for the clam it’s just nick tossing it in😂 anyways another amazing video. Can’t wait to get back out there myself.🤙
Thanks Nick for freezing your butt off 2 days in a row to bring us another awesome fishing adventure.
Same ! Thanks (watching all videos within 2 days of them being released. My relaxing time before falling asleep )
Thanks for all you go through to bring us these fishing adventures. All day in snow without a bite!
I've had success with bratwurst and catfish after watching you. One suggestion: I put a chunk of bratwurst in a lady's knee-high hose, pull it tight and knot it. Makes a nice ball of bait. Then cut off excess. Hook through the knot and it keeps the bait on the line. Can usually get several baits out of a single tube of hose.
Was very surprising to see you had never seen a daredevil before! Especially a red and white one.
That's awesome you found a daredevil spoon. Dardevils are the first thing I ever caught northern pike on. It's a fav. Awesome video!
I'm surprised you don't use the Ambassador C3 or 5500 with a bait Clicker! For years I used c3's for catfishing in rivers and lakes it makes bottom fishing more efficient because they're just so useful and the tension that the fish feels is next to nothing and the bait Clicker is easy to hear quite a ways away
Your videos always remind me to try new places and always keep your options open and remember you never know what's lurking underneath 🐟
A bad day fishing is still better then a good day at work!
Catching a catfish on a lure is always a pleasant surprise.
Also - a catfish, a carp, and a clam... Hitting the Cs are we?
No such thing as a clam, it’s a freshwater mussel! Which is probably the coolest creature in any river
If you ever go to Saskatchewan for pike and lake trout, be sure you have plenty of those big Dardevle spoons, red & white and the "five of diamonds", which is yellow with red diamonds, brass back. They'll hit it so hard they take the paint off it. I did a fly-in trip with 50-lbs of gear/clothes/stuff allowed, couldn't take much of anything. The outfitter told me all I need is a bunch of those spoons and titanium leaders. He was right. Well hang in there, spring isn't far away, better times to come. Good video as always.
Big fish guys 🤣🤣🤣 i love that sound
I've used Daredevils my whole life. Solid lure, good pickup!
Thanks for keeping it real by showing the skunk on day one... makes the rest of us realize it happens more to even the best.
Hey we know wintertime is tough on the tight lines but thanks for getting us out there today keep it up buddy! Love your content 😎
Nice mussel! Great video as always! It’s early in the year, it’ll pick up. A friend I used to fish with when I was a kid, swore he and his Dad would occasionally catch mussels on artificial lures. As weird as that sounds.
I've caught them on artifical lures. It's more because you snag them bouncing off the bottom though. The meat make excellent bait and if they are around its usually the sign of a healthy river system
that freshwater clam was one of the most unique catches I've ever seen in midwestern fishing
I catch um all the time in one of the spillways near me
Catch them up here in Ontario all the time
Would the clam work for bate?
I caught one in the Niagara River in NY last summer
It is one of the most unique catches I have seen 618 fishing catch in Midwest fishing at this particular spillway……it’s like going to Subway restaurant and coming out with a pizza
Perfect timing! Just got done reorganizing all my tackle 🎣
In 60+ years of fishing, I have never hooked a live mussel before! That's cool. 😎
The red and white spoon you found are awesome we call it a red devil, it's one of my go to spoons
Daredevel. I lost that exact one all the way in Wisconsin. That's how bad I lose lures.
Cool catch! A mollusk. I've never seen one that large in fresh water. Good to see you this week Nick.
Eppinger Dardevle’s are iconic and an American legend. I won’t use anyone else’s spoons anymore.
wow! back when i fished really hard, i would use those clams/mussels for bait and catch decent catfish, but have never seen one caught on a line. neat
You know it’s good day when he uploads
Daredevils!?! Awesome!
Love the new content Nick!
Thank you 😀
Thanks for your videos! Always look forward to the next one. That clam catch was awesome! You are so lucky to have so many fishing holes .
Great video. Atchison kansas is watching. I know your pretty far away from Atchison kansas. But if you ever come here the river here is really good fishing in the summer. There is a big spillway here in Atchison. It is near mulers a restaurant. Really hope this summer you could check it out. Creep up the good work. 👍
Day 1 was a bust but day 2 and a different location more than made up for it! And catching a clam is just a bonus lol. Love the videos and time you take editing them and giving us great quality videos/ content and sharing with us something that I haven’t done in 6 years and hopefully will get out there this spring and summer and do it again. Have a great fun and safe weekend and take care dude! See you next adventure!
Once again “The Spillway Slayer” does not disappoint, while it may take more time than expected, Nick continues to be the “Slayer.”
Man I don't know how you do it, but I get more entertainment out of your 10-15min videos than most 30-45min ones. Love this channel!
The red and white Daredevil with the silver bottom is a favorite of mine, great for walleye, northern, and other fish!
Love your videos man, keep at it
3:20 daredevil spoons are one of the best spoons out there! Nice find, NIck!
I enjoy watching your fishing shows. The clam catch us really funny. Thank you for sharing.
This is why spillways rock. You get game fish bottom feeders and random interesting stuff! And some cool lures!
Awesome video Nick, keep um coming ty and God bless
thanks for inspiring myself and others to never give up fishing! I never have the luck you do but then again, I dont fish as many spots either. so far this year has been slow, a few decnt channel cats and a bunch of bowfin and bullhead and a a couple average northerns. I'm in lower Wisconsin by the lake
Nice video! I've also caught a lot of clams instead of fish, so you're cool! 🐚😁
Great upload man. Interesting catch with that clam!
great stuff Nick thanks.
I once caught a freshwater clam like that when I was 8 years old. MY family thought it was the greatest accomplishment of my life and told everyone in our small town. I was so embarrassed. Of course no one wanted to hear about the tiger musky I caught, just a stupid clam! LOL
😂
That’s awesome!! Thank you for sharing brother!!
Nice catch Nick! Love your videos! Keep up the great work! #roadto1mi
Love hearing "Big Fish, Big Fish!" Awesome channel and fishing sites.
Nick nice PB clam!! We follow their trails in little rivers and find them in hidden in the sand. We love your videos! Thanks Nick
Hey Nick! Just wanted to let you know that, your videos always bring entertainment to my day! Ive been watching for over a year now and your catches always amaze me! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the support!
Loving what u do brotha. Got some time on Wednesday myself n got a few channel cats also. Keep it up buddy. U bring joy to all who enjoy fishing.
It's Ok Nick,, Not Every Trip Is Going To Be A Huge Success..At Least You Got To Enjoy Being Out In Nature,, Got A Few New Lures,, A Bunch Of Bait From The Carp & If You Stayed A Lil Longer,, Maybe You Could Have Had Some Clam Chowder Too🤪
I love the music you do for these videos, reminds me of music in old fishing games.
love your videos man!! im planning on making my own fishing videos this summer after the fish unthaw lol
Catching a catfish on a lure is the fishing equivalent of getting a few onion rings in your box of fries from BK.
Some thing to talk about and not CLAM up ! . Great video as always Nick . Nice to see some bigger quality fish being caught even if day one was a Zero . Thanks for sharing.
That was an amazing video Nick. And I have never ever seen anyone catch a clam on a fishing rod, let a lone a hooked worm. That's a once in a lifetime buddy. And I use those Daredevils lures here in upstate NY for Pike. Caught a Muski randomly one day on one. 🤔
Great video man keep up the great work always love the content.
Kudos for braving the cold. Great effort. 👍
Thought I was the only one!! I caught a mussel on a crappie jig many moons ago...another great video Nick!
That's an excellent Fishing spot, fished there during white bass spawning season a ton of fun!
As soon as you showed that spoon, I said "Daredevil". Super popular awhile ago. Was house bound because of ice last week. Stay safe Nick. Slippery out there.
Just got home from. Good day today. And even better with a video from the Great Nick618 👍 hell yeah!
Saw you put on the large spoon and said to myself "you're going to snag an Asian carp or two.". Nailed it.
Caught a clam last summer on a red and white spoon covered with zebra mussels. Picked the zebra mussels off and threw the clam back in.
One of the good things about river fishing is it's not as predictable as lake fishing.
Any catch is a good catch!
Hey Nick you and John Dalton with Creek Fishing Adventures should collaborate you have similar personalities and fun to watch when you fish.
Always fun to watch.
Thanks for the cool vid, Nick!
Awesome videos brother
Love your videos man! Keep it up!
I love how a big head looks the cows of the river lol
Awesome catch on the catfish with a spoon! And that clam was an oddity!
The Catfish and the Carp was a great catch the camp was a weird catch good job on the 2 fish you got
I like the slow motion fish footage. Beautiful creatures.
Nice catch 👌 👏
The catching can be tough this time of year. Thank goodness for the mild winter........we have some insane steelhead fishing here in the tribs of lake Erie. Would be a bit of a drive, but would make a great video. Come to Erie......I will put you on some chrome!
Dude thanks for the new episode you're CZcams channel rock's bro
That was a neat looking carp.rapala made a weedless spoon that is helpful when your fishing water with a Rocky bottom.it was made for fishing in weeds they advertised it as a salad spoon.i don't know what they call those clams but the catfish in Pennsylvania love them I find them and catch fish with them.the Rapala spoon was good for vertical jigging smallmouth up from rock piles to since its pretty weedless to,even a plain single hook spoon gets snagged but it's not a problem with the Rapala spoon.
Great shots with the seagulls!
Congrats on the new personal best clam catch! 😉
Those Channel cats fight like crazy, I catch them on chatterbaits some times and even Ned rigs 😁😎
It's cool he mentioned my hometown. Dearborn, Michigan is the Home of the Ford Motor Company.
Always wondered if those were editable?
Great to see ya buddy618!! 🌝🐳🦈
Much respect that you posted the first part
I love your videos! Keep up the great work you do!
Live in Cincinnati, OH. Caught a fresh water clam in a subdivision pond, only one I have ever seen. I remember being completely dumbfounded 😂 keep up the great work, love the videos!
How does my boy put out videos that look like they are high dollar production and get so excited for every opportunity and not have 3 million subs? Another great video bud
Good ol Kaskaski spillway! Love that spot. Maybe we'll run into each other one of these days 🤙
Here in Indiana, the freshwater clam as you called it is known as a "mussel". I have caught many of them in the rivers & Creeks on a Nightcrawler just like you did. With the hook being embedded inside the shell. It's definitely odd and amazing when you catch one for sure. And believe it or not, they're good to eat.
I am watching from Elmira NY I enjoy watching your fishing videos
Congrats Nick on that PB clam.
Hey Nick, a great video as usual
If you want to try an interesting challenge, you should try and catch some spillway fish with fly tackle. Catfish would probably be a little more tricky but it'd be an interesting video I reckon
That is such a bizzare outing man. Even the fish....and other species are going crazy from this cold haha.
Your cinematography take on your clips are always so cool to watch.. great photography my friend.
That was a freshwater mussel. Used to find them all the time in upstate NY.
What ever next , we will wait and see , never a dull day nick !
Dude how is that even possible to catch a clam?? The weirdest thing ive caught is an Alligator with a top water frog lol. Hey nice catches man keep up the great videos
WOW... That is crazy. What a cool catch. I wonder if they're edible like salt water clams.
Love your vids and music...
The time of your videos be perfect and straight to the point
