    Video: In this video we’ll discuss blood pressure lying down. Why would you take it lying down? I’ll tell you why some have to, how to do it correctly and are the readings different vs sitting up? Regardless of the correct position to measure your blood pressure, sometimes it has to be done lying down. If you’re ill, have a medication condition, injury or recovering from surgery, you may be confined to a bed at home or in the hospital. Another common reason is to help a physician make a diagnosis of either orthostatic hypotension or hypertension. This occurs when a person’s pressure lowers or gets higher when they stand up from sitting or lying down. Another diagnosis a doctor may check for is supine hypertension which is when your blood pressure is high while lying down. If it’s necessary to measure your pressure in a lying down position many of the same rules apply compared to...

    I can't get a normal level...I have chronic health anxiety...at drs office, I go into a panic attack and they take it during panic. How stupid. You should never take someone's BP while they're not at all relaxed.
    Maybe maybe times my BP is like I'm in full exercise mode running or jogging during a panic attack
    Soon as I get home withing 15-20mins it's back to almost normal .

    Omg, I've been searching for so long for this very basic information or what is considered the 'normal' changes in these readings from laying to sitting to standing up.
    I thought this simple bodily information would be easily found! But it really isn't!

    KISS -- keep it simple -- the AMA should have BP numbers for simply lying down on a bed, no pillows under the arm. There are too many body position variables when sitting in a chair. My BP dropped 10 for both numbers when reading BP while simply laying on a bed.

    Lying down should be the standard approach, otherwise too many variables.

      Hi. I have some articles on the topic in my website: bloodpressureexplained.com/why-blood-pressure-drops-suddenly-when-standing-up/

  • @Peppermint1
    @Peppermint1 Před 3 měsíci

    What is different at night? You don't drink water. In health persons this is not an issue, but if for any reasons your body dehydrates too much at night, then you may get high blood pressure. To me it also happens if I take a meal shortly before going to bed - digestion moves more blood around intestines, so heart has less blood and rises bp. Another possibility is kidney problems, with less blood flow, kidney may rise bp. As for increased dehydration, it may be caused by lungs loosing too much humidity while breathing, for example damaged (dry) nostrils will cause this condition in the long term. One way to help with this is drink water before bed - half a glass or more. Drink again if you wake up at night. Water will help the body stabilize better the amount of blood and will also help the kidneys work easier. Remember that kidneys also regulate the blood pressure, kidney issues will have an impact on bp. Side note, I have high bp regardless of the body position, but sleeping on the side it makes it ever higher because this body position puts pressure on thick arteries near the shoulder. I prefer to sleep on the belly or on the back. Sometimes when the hear pounding is too strong, I would just stand for a moment on my knees in bed, this may help lower the pression a little, then I lay back down in bed. But the most important part is the amount of water before bed and during night sleep (I wake up quite often). Remember also, if you do exercise in the afternoon, this may cause the body to dehydrate more. Better leave exercise and even just walks for morning time and drink plenty of water to compensate for humidity lost by breathing.
